I got out in the woods today with some fiber to do a little fire rolling. I wanted to accomplish a rust in Jute fire Roll. So I wanted to find a couple of sources of rust, a couple top boards (I ended up using 4), a stump for the bottom board, and of course some good tinder like Tulip Poplar. Be forewarned though, the fiber that I intended to use, Jute, would not ignite so after 3 tries I broke out a cotton ball. I really enjoyed this one. The ignition sort of snuck up on me right when I was just about out of options. Please come check it out, follow the LINKs below, and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! David, isn’t it weird that you’re one of the only fire makers that ever fails, lol? Miraculous, they never fail, lol thanks, tgat one made me sweat, lol again
Hi David! In my early practice sessions, it was important to see how much time and challenges you faced with some of these techniques. In that way, I knew in advance what I was likely to face and persisted even thought I may have been frustrated at times.
David , I believe the first couple rolls may have absorbed moisture of the top of the log and top board ........but regardless, you get the A like you always do for your outstanding effort. Missed your videos for about a year and look foward to binge watching what you have posted !
Great effort David and kudos for showing the attempts not just the success. I was hoping at some point you would try a roll directly on some of the rusted metal to see if it would help. Another try with rust and some natural cotton like fiber would be interesting. We have some fall plants here in eastern Canada that have really fluffy white seed pods that look like field cotton. I may give them a try.
David, when I started watching your videos, I thought rust related fire roll seemed like a viable (TRUE SURVIVAL), emergency fire maker. I’m thinking part of a sock, t-shirt, etc add the readily available rust, As you mentioned, near civilization, you’d be hard pressed to walk anywhere in the woods and not find a trash pile, railroad track, etc. I wonder what the odds together are of finding a spent bic, rusty metal, bottle you could solar ignight, or any of your techniques? Something to ponder and test out when it gets cooler and the chiggers and ticks are gone, lol
@DavidWestBgood2ppl will do... also I have to resub to your channel every day. I've talked to youtube support, and they've said that YOU need to clear your browser cache...I've worked in IT (specifically data storage) my whole life (I'm 44), and that is not going to work. Lol. They must have a bug going around.
David, was the missing part in success with rust and jute this time just not having yiur flat 2x4’s and/or not standing where yiu can really bear down with your weight standing up? You really make us ponder.
