Kind of ironic this is a Toyota video. Toyota trucks are notoriously known for rusting.

People are abusing toyota trucks on salty road and beach, and since the engine and gear is not dying, the frame gives up.

15 years later the Highlander is in amazing mechanical and interior shape with regular care, but it is rusting away at the rocker by the rear wheels and where the well meets the sill through the rubberized film. I'd pay a grand extra if this could be prevented.

Nobody owns their car for 15 years. People buy them new and sell them after 5 years max.

@@jimj2683 And many of them, brainwashed into thinking they understand what's good for the environment, will buy electric cars never knowing their carbon footprints dwarf those of well-maintained older cars because they require tons of fossil fuel to manufacture and run generators to charge them.

My australia fortuner 2019 get rust along the chassis frame joint. Look like toyota doing short cut and cheating. Other brand dip the entire body frame into gray zinc primer before dip into black paint for rust protection. But my fortuner that I only see thin black layer. Because toyota only dip the chassis into the black enamal once only

Praise should be focused on other aspects. The anti-corrosion coatings leave much to be desired. My Corolla looks pathetic from this point of view.

I'd be more reassured if all steel components were galvanised or made from stainless steel. I'd pay a big premium for such a car.

Hi Al, I'm a mechanical engineer working in rotating equipment for power gen and even LNG export. Not only do I have a Civic with 395,000 miles on it, but I've bid and won and sold a large piece of equipment for the coast of British Columbia, that will ship to China first, and then back, and won't start until about 4 years from now. If your auto was 3 times the price, would you really pay for it? Stainless is not as strong either. Your best bet is to take your vehicle every single Fall to an undercoater. After a few years of research and doing some on my own, I'd recommend Woolwax.

@@richcombs4805 Thank for your input, Rich. Yes, Woolwax coating the underside every fall seems like a good plan. Since posting the above, I've been told that most car manufacturers do in fact galvanize all steel bodywork components. Whether that's true or not, I don't know; the above Toyota video doesn't specifically mention galvanizing.

@@alseveron6558 note that in near shore and off shore installations my customers won't allow galvanized steel....or they want the galvanizing painted, or they want stainless or epoxy coated carbon steel. It is common for us to coat things with something like fluid film prior to road shipment to the port.
