This is the engine which takes pride of place in our extensive engine shed. It is a 19 HP Ruston Hornsby Suction Gas Engine ca 1919 (could have actually been made earlier and kept in stock) Serial # 51484. It was delivered to Peter Logan in 1923 for installation on his farm at Upper Tenthill here in the Lockyer Valley. It was used to pump water for irrigation via a 4in two stage pump. It was in use until approx 1940. The engine has been fully restored, along with it's accompanying Gas Production plant. It is currently being run on LP gas as it is difficult to procure charcoal or coke for the gas plant and also the time taken to get the gas plant up to speed is prohibitive. We apologise for the quality of the video but hope you appreciate such a fine example of early power production.

I have been to the powerhouse museum in Longreach, Queensland, they have old suction gas engines, I'm unsure if they operate, but no wonder there are not trees around the towns now, used to generate electricity until 1945.
