Rusty 68 F100 Revival - Back on the Road Again!!!! (20 Years Forgotten in the Woods) PART 5

On this episode, I am able to get the truck in good enough shape to hit the road for a quick spin around the block. Our makeshift gastank, carb rebuild, rebuilt steering column, replacement ragjoint all leading up to a nice down and dirty brake flush. Master cylinder was found to be bad and replace all the wheel cylinders but surprisingly all the lines were good. So once we had brakes, we were able to put it back on the road for the first time in over 20 years. Still in rough shape and alot of work ahead to get it back to its former glory, but slowly getting there. Up next will be a transmission flush and diff fluid change and a much longer road trip.

EARTH-TRUCK! My favorite kind. Mine's a 91 Ranger XLT, 338,336 miles getn 29 around town, and blew head gasket! No oil in water, no water in oil! Between cylinders apparently. Had it 19 years! Had 111K miles on it when I bought it. It was running, then it just piled and stopped running. Just about got enough saved to get it rebuilt, (and maybe with a few extra hosses! Whoo Hoo! Good job on vdo! Nice find on truck. Don't know what you paid for it, but it looks pretty intact for sitting up! Good work, man! Thanks.

Awesome! I had an old truck like this a long time ago...paid like $200 for it. Now restored they sell for a LOT of money. I traded mine for a hopped up chevy monza that my dad and I were looking to run at the local drag strip on weekends....I miss that truck, it had a lot of character.

she's a diamond in the ruff, dad and I restore classics for ppl who want daily drivers he won't build a "trailer queen" and to use his words "there's not a turd you can't polish and make into a beauty if you have the time and money" check the net..there's a Co./place in So. Calif. that has lots of 67-69 parts-- talked with a young man a couple yrs ago who was doing a 68 short bed in So. Calif. who was getting parts through them....I grew up and learned to drive on a 68 F250 camper special..they make junk today compared to what they used to make... good luck on your project

that's a great old truck your working one and love to see it after its restored. I hope your going to bring it beck to original factory aspects? My dad had a striped 1970 F 100 8 foot bed with the 300 6. cylinder 3 on the tree that I leaned how to drive on. such a great truck & hard to find because I've been looking for one. But you have fun with her and happy to see that it got rescued . she has a lot more to give. some day I will find one. best of luck to you.

You check all fluid transfers for stoppages BEFORE you pour in fluids. Often times it's best to spend a little more to get a lot back. It's a truck. A running and driving truck. The value is there.

For your information , as an and old retired brake mechanic, icanand tell you that the exhaust acceptedmethod for bleeding brakes is to start theexhaust farthest away from the Master cylinder--period! Forget front/rear! In the case of the F100, the farthest away would be the right rear,so you'd do it first, then the left rear (because it's next closest to the M/cyl), then the right front, and then finally the left front (last because it's closest)! You're actually using the master to chase the air from the rear of the vehicle to the front and bubble out finally through the left front and the m/cyl reservoir itself. What you did is a variation of the Correct Procedure , but your way CAN actually leave an air pocket in the lines, especially near a "tee" fitting or a pressure equalizer valve body( which this old F100 might not have, but it certainly has at least one tee-probably on the rear axle housing). Just sayin. 1

My 68 was rusted in the same place. Ford put the hood hinges on before they primed the inner fender aprons, and then there is the hole under where the battery sits. Lol
@michaeloday9331
@michaeloday9331 4 года назад
The furthest wheel cylinder from the Master cylinder is "The front passenger wheel"(?) I thought the reservoir, the bigger one served the back brakes for there bring more distance in the lines thus needing more fluid. I'm redoing the drums on my 1970 F-100(Ranger XLT) and these videos sure help. But like with a video on adjusting the steering, I'm sometimes left with as many questions as answers.

been working on my 81 f100. 65k miles, it has been in a garage for the most of the last 38 years. old lady had it dropped off at a local shop...then passed away. None of her kin wanted the "ratty" old girl. so i bought it after it sat for 3 years. the only thing wrong i could find is 1 crack in the dash...and the engine was seized from having ethanol gas rusting the piston rings.

Check those metal lines, because they will rust through and fail just when you need them the most. You won't soon forget hat sinking feeling of doom you get when the brakes work for a second, and then suddenly the pedal drops to the floor because a rusted line burst.

made a really big mistake with my 65 Ford FE had it for 40 years just never thought those front brake lines would fail but one day coming down hill with the heavy load one of them failed you have no idea can't imagine what it's like to stop one of these things with the old brake lines on the front when one gives away ,just throwing that out there to anybody that might have something that's been sitting a long time might want to start with the front brake lines talking specifically about those rubber ones that go to wheel cylinder!

You really need to look to turn this into a series! You could get auto sponsors, auto parts sponsors, you could get A&E to pilot the show and build viewership then randomly visit people who have a 'great story' of a car now sitting that you all get running on site then drive it off to rebuild it from photos given and research! reveal, family tears, great tv! You should also watch Chris Fix, he may have more ideas! original, refreshing and way cool! You have something here! make it happen, you only live once!!!
@C2H6Garage

It is annoying to have to wait for parts. Yeah, it's 50 years old but there are a lot of them around. You'd think they'd have replacement parts on the shelves for these. Double annoyance is new parts that don't work. I go with name brands instead of store brands and have had good results.

I know this video is over a year old and you'll probably never see this but, if you do why were you starting out in second gear all the time for? That's a good way to ruin the clutch and pressure plate not to mention the undo stress and strain on all the other parts of the linkage. I watched all the episodes of this project and it was great to see an old ford coming back to life, good job!
