In This episode, we are tackling the engine sump/oil pan. This Fiat 500 has the dreaded oil leak fault we need to fix it ASAP. This will also work on the Ford Ka 1.2 petrol.
I've looked and there's hardly any information on how to remove the oil sump on a Fiat 500 so I hope you enjoy this video that is desperately needed & if it helped you please like the video & subscribe for more.

The damage from the accident has been done but as usual, there are more problems under the bonnet.

Great Video showing all the unpleasant parts of this job, Well done. I had a go myself and I'd like to add my experience for anyone trying this job. It can be done without removing the manifold, but it's not easy. A few tips are: 1) Put the sealant on the block, not on the new sump, this stops you knocking it off as you try to get the new sump in place. 2) cut out most of the baffle inside the new sump out, again to help getting it in place. 3) Turn the engine over via the crank pully to put the no4 piston nearest the gearbox high up in the engine for the same reason. 4) Grind off a 1/4 inch of the chassis leg holder near the 3 big bolts to help fit the new sump. 5) temporarily remove the front t30 bolt that holds on the oil pickup so it can be moved, so you can get the old sump off. Once all this is done, it fits in OK. What a terrible design for a car :)

Hi Big Man. Another epic repair. I personally would have put a little less sealer on the inner side of the sump. When you tighten it up, the sealer expends outwards which is ok on the exterior as you can wipe it level but there is a "chance" with the amount that was on the inner lip of the sump, of it dropping down into the oil, being circulated and blocking the oilways/passageways leading to worse problems. Nice video bud and Jesus not a small job to change the sump . fiats have always suffered with the sumps rusting I remember doing a sump on a Mk2 punto about 10 years ago keep up the good work and not long for 3k subs 💪🏻💪🏻

@@RevivingSalvage no worries all the hard work will pay off 💪🏻 any interest in the 2019 500 I finally sold the gold 2019 Volkswagen up last Friday had very little interest must of been the colour as I normally sell ups very easy . and thanks again your Chanel and mine are getting there and tell you one thing it’s not easy to win a car atm prices are crazy

Well done with that! I reckon you did that better than most garages in fact I bet a garage snapped that stud and said nothing! I’ll do mine at some point though I’ll be crapping my pants undoing those bolts! Very useful video especially to myself 👊👍❤️

Only two came up that I could see & the one was ripping off the heat shield & throwing it away & that was a garage so not a very good example...I know mines a bit over the top with the front off I suppose you get the just of it. Lol

I couldn't believe my eyes when watching that one lol...I hope so 🙏... its definitely not an easy job but if you take your time with the Manifold bolts you should be fine 👍

Or you could cut the pipe, fix the sump leak and, then sleve the exahust pipe back together. Sleves are cheap -all you need to know is the outer diameter of the pipe. If you really have to chance those rusty exahust manifold studs, apply some heat (butane) then give the studs a few taps with a hammer and drift to loosen the rust - oh and plenty of WD :) And just for future reference - the amount of sealant that squeezes out will be approx equal to the amount the squeezes in - just hope none of it breaks away and ends up in the sump to be sucked up by the oil pickup.

@@RevivingSalvage Looked at the sump the other day and yes it's rusted. New one arriving tomorrow and fitting it at the weekend. Saving all my best swear words for the job as will definitely be using some choice ones 😜

I've done many sumps on these but never had to remove the driver's side leg so not sure what that is about? And yes, it is easier to cut and sleeve the exhaust pipe rather than remove the manifold. However, I have done a couple of sumps and removed the manifold completely and it's a lot easier with it out of the way to get pry bars in there to lower the sump.

I would possibly remove the entire engine and work with it outside in a much more comfortable way.. but good work and keep it up as always.
