RUSTY MOTORCYCLE FUEL TANK RESTORATION 

Didn’t see any work on the inside of the tank Rust flowing into carb NICE!!

I had a motorcycle sit idle in my garage for some years, and the gas tank was rusted inside. So I read-up on how to fix it (this was before You Tube). First I put pebbles in the tank and shook it around until it scoured off all the rust. Then I treated it with a product made for coating the inside of motorcycle gas tanks to prevent further corrosion. It came with phosphoric acid that I had to pour in the tank first to etch the metal, and a liquid polymer I had to pour in next, tilt the tank back and forth for even coverage, and let dry. It worked great.

Great job.But how would you clean the rust from inside the tank?

To apply decals you first spray the tank with Windex and you can slide the decal around to get perfect placement and then squigee the Windex out from under the decal.

I've seen a lot of those vids. And many times they don't show how to treat the inside. While applying paint the gaps aren't even closed off. So paint will get into the gastank, and if you decide to use it; in your carbs....

five gallon bucket....put tank in bucket and fill bucket with evaporust for a couple of day.....rinse thoroughly with water....wash with vinegar and rinse with water

That's not a restoration. Popped the emblem with a screwdriver and added stickers. You got skill my friend, use it a kick up a real restation. Thanks for sharing

Amazing job and to Chris Haan.... you get treat ment forinside tanks but then... next time any of you use bodyfiller,PLEASE dont et sand over it,it keeps the moist and after paint it would crack

Really thin coat of primer not nearly enough needs at least 2 good coats then wet sand noprimer on underside either did not see job cleaned with thinners then tack clothed job not wet sanded after clear coat then buffed stickers look terrible not put on properly should have gone on before clear coat for professional finish al and all very average job

You sprayed right into the tank through the filling hole. Now you have a gas tank that will always be contaminated with paint and solvents.
