The glass repair was amazing to me considering the heat it would bee exposed to. The knowledgable, methodical, patient methods you use once again produce a serious work in the restorer's art. It is becoming apparent that Avril is gaining a considerable amount of knowledge. Keep an eye.
@@mikem2849 You can find replica globes for all the Dietz lanterns. THey are the most popular (to this day) lantern in the world. they really only use 2 types, unless you have rarer models, in which case you are fucked.
I prefer things only being painted if they were originally, this lantern had such cool colors of metals it would be ashame to paint over it💯 Loved it! 👍👍
Yes...so great you left the beautiful old metals speak for themselves! The copper is amazing would have never thought it was hidden under all that dirt and dust.
It's what in furniture restoration is called an 'honest' restoration, that is, any repairs are visible (the glass) and that the patina of years of use is not lost. Great job. As ever, Avril - the cat inspector is on hand to ensure its done properly!
Does anyone else have their ASMR triggered from watching these, or is it just me ? 🤔 The clicking, moving the tools and pieces around, water/cleaning solutions pouring....all of it is soooooo f'in great to hear !!! I can't be the only one who watches not only to see items get cleaned and brought back to life but just to hear the sounds of working. I also experienced this years ago watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood when he'd use scissors to cut construction paper to make crafts (although I didn't know what the term was back then of course). Watching these are extremely relaxing. And the fact that he doesn't talk at all or have any annoying ass background music is a plus. This guy gets it !! 😎💪💪👍
Amazing job. I have some of my grandfather's old railroad lanterns, some are in really rough shape. I'm 66, so these are pretty old. But seeing your restoration gives me hope for a couple of them. Thanks for sharing this and the others I'm about to watch.
So did I, and there was a number on the copper tank very rare. To my mind it’s an collector item. Got a few of those Feuerhand and over here in Europe ALL the part are still available including the glass.
A really nice preservation. It is nice to see both of you working together. Not often I see a couple doing restoration videos together. I always love to watch your projects 👌
I like how you cleaned this up and still left it with a vintage look. As much as I like seeing restoration items restored to look like new at the same time they might be mistaken for reproductions and not the original. It's nice to see them restored though.
Чудесная работа! Редко увидишь таких увлеченных восстановлением,не придумывающих на основе новых технологий,а именно точным воссозданием исторических предметов.Спасибо за Ваш кропотливый труд и успехов!
RUSTY OIL LAMP RESTORATION You really did a great job on this oil lamp. I did not think you would be able to get it to look like new again. But you did it and you should be very proud of the job you did on it. MissKat in California
Hooray! That's much much better. It hasn't lost it's history under a coat of modern paint. This is the way stuff should be restored, rather than trying to make everything look brand new. Thank goodness someone, at last, is doing the right thing.
Hi there. As a person who likes wstching posts as such I can say that I rather like this version of restoration than the other. Polishing, painting, etc. Are quite makeup things to me. With those we lose the smell of its age and authenticity. Cheers.
Glass repair, very interesting. Saw my step father do something like it near to 50 years ago. I don't know what it was but, I like that you have the skills and knowledge of a master glacier. Love your channel!
Absolutely amazing restoration! If you had painted that I would have cried. The repair work you did on the glass was perfection! Beautiful, now I want to buy it!!
Lantern came out very nice. The copper fount looks great. This lantern looks very similar too a Dietz Little Wizard. I love the cat. My cats always watch me work on lanterns and other things as well.
Nice to see it kept original. Good idea with the o-ring on the fuel cap. And glad you were able to piece together the globe. I love those old kerosene lanterns. I have my Grandpa’s old lantern from early 1900s. It looks a lot like that one.
I loved this restoration and I'm glad you didn't paint it and just cleaned it up and repaired it and got it working. It was nice to see Avril doing her supervision job
Oh, geeze, when I saw the red, I thought you cut yourself! Lol! She's lovely, and so is your supervisor! If you had a PO Box, we could send her treats! ;)
