Taking on the rusty sills is the last job before MOT time....again...and with it being quite involved, this will be a 2 part video.
I've picked up loads of useful information and tips over on ‪@fitzeesfabrications‬ so if you're looking into some welding/fabrication, definitely check his channel out!

Love the improvisation on the videos, give me a little more confidence to do a few bits myself. Keep them coming.

I did this using a flux core welder from lidl! Made the panel as you did, however even on the lowest heat I blasted holes in the existing metal, so had to weld fill those very slowly. It's still OK 2 years later. I disconnected the ecu beforehand.

Off to a great start on the rust! Had me worried with the fibreglass bit at the start 😂 I’ve opened my own garage in Sheffield with our aim being mostly special cars, let me know if you come unstuck 👍🏻

Lee I had the same issue. Mg's defo don't have a great drainage design. I repaired as you have but ensured I moulded in a good drain to eliminate this issue going forward.

I’ve got a couple of sills to do on the MGF...... but I have a mig and have been welding for more years than I care to mention.... and I recently bought a four post ramp It’s just time and inspiration I need

Hi Lee..... Only slightly terrifying that we still dont have a part two after 2 months now ;) Im going to have a bash at welding on two complete Mike Satur sills over Christmas (weather permitting!) and was really hoping for a part 2 from you to convince myself I really want to do this.

@@wheatleysworkshop Worth a watch of mike's videos ru-vid.com/show-UCTmlPgFMdCnR9R89IqAhDUg as I have commented to his third video, I plan to pop rivet in place then grind out each rivet and plug weld. Then do overlapping spots to produce a solid seam. The joggled edge along the top that goes behind the existing panel will (I hope!) make things much easier than trying to cut out and weld in

This video came up on my feed. Good to see some MGF and TF love out there. I watched some re-runs of the Red Bull Soapbox races on TV (I think it was ITV4) a couple of months ago and remember seeing your two runs. 👏👏👏

Much easier with a preformed repair. Angles and bends match original. Kit also has the fillet to replicate original and removing air vent helps access /inspection of corrosion. 6mm wire (with gas bottle) can reduce heat . Just had to do this repair, not easy as inner wing will need corrosion cutting out.

Defnately disconnect the battery on the car. Its possible to fry any electronic component on the car due to random voltage surges as you weld if you don't disconnect. Make sure all metal is clean and as said before remove all traces of rust on the inside. I was told its difficult to weld cars with fluxed wire, be interesting to see how you get on. Good luck

Lol you never took battery off 😅😅😅 it first thing you should have been told also thinner rods and move faster you could arc it well onto next episode

The rust you see on the outside is often not as bad as what's inside the panel in my experience, you might blow holes in the sill due to the rust making it very thin, don't weld to dark metal as it will blow holes, get back to silver metal and check inside carefully with your finger to see if it's smooth or rusty, hope that helps a little bit

Hi Lee, Great videos, like you I’m not that keen body work and much prefer the mechanical jobs. May I suggest you pay to have the body work done or just move on to what you do best, and start another project car, especially as the weather is now improving.

I'm sure this comment is past the point of being useful as you''ll have done the job now. The thickness of your welding wire is a little on the thicker side than you need. The welder as commented, is already on its minimum setting using the .8mm wire. Use the .6mm wire, and a .6mm tip supplied from your local welding supplies or ebay, or Halfords do stock them. This will knock the power down to minimum such that you'll probably need to, or be able to, turn it up a bit and this will give you more control over your welding currents. To use the thinner wire, turn the motorised wire feed wheel in the wire feeding mechanism inside the welder through 180 degree [ In otherwords turn the wheel around ], and that should be the right groove for the thinner .6 mm wire. There should be two groves cut parallel into the powered wire feed wheel. This wire size is what these grooves are for. Also, Gas welding will use less current than the equivalent Gas-less, so once again there is the opportunity to turn down the power with a Gas set up. With a Gas set up you don't need to burn the flux so less power is needed, and there is nothing to clean up. The panel work on the MG might well be slightly thinner than the sheet metal purchased. If your welding set up on the new steel is only just coping with the power from the welder before blowing holes, when you come to weld on the car it might all be a different kettle of fish that sadly doesn't want to play ball and blows holes. If that's the case the only option is to go for a thinner wire size as described. I hope that's not the case and you've made progress. If not the above will help you or anyone following your footsteps in time.

I have an MG TF 2004 since new (I live in Mexico and the streets here are really bumpy) and I see the regular shocks are too hard therefore it sounds horrible any help on what can I do, I know the drive isn’t as smooth as other cars but still I am getting annoyed by it
