In this video im restoring one of the most important geometrical tools. dividers are consisting of two straight adjustable legs hinged together and ending in sharp point . this tool usely are used to measure and transfer distances on the nautical chart but we cannot use divider as a compass (drawing scircles) in my case i use it for this propose . answer or ask why.

When using dividers for laying out curves on metal, applying layout fluid or “magic marker” ink to the surface allows the scribed line to show without scoring into the metal surface and unduly dulling the points.

Nice restoration although a little heavy-handed. Why not soak in rust remover before disassembly?

At last the circles are round not square. Btw I like the shine polishing as the final deed instead of painting.

It seems incomplete ... did you consider stamping measurement marks?

That's not what 'dividers' are for. You're thinking of a compass, which is for drawing circles. Dividers are for dividing any length into however many equal divisions you want.

@@mattyal9347 Well, yeah. They'd be on such a large scale, they'd only get you in the ballpark. Just using a tape or hard scale across the points would be a lot more accurate.

Should have used a battery charger and washing soda to digest rust instead of forcing it apart. You are lucky you still have a functioning tool.

I have found that the best way to treat tools with seized or very stiff joints is to soak them in a jar if diesel fuel for a few days. This method has never failed me.

Yes ..diesel is a good idea ..i just couldnt wait for days even a month may be
