Ruth Buzzi is an 86-year-old actress, comedian, and occasional country music singer best known for her performances on the iconic comedy-variety program Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. She appeared on the show from 1968 to 1973, and for her work, she was awarded a Golden Globe in addition to five Emmy nominations.
In 2015, Buzzi told Closer that her single goal in life was to help people enjoy their lives through laughter. While she has largely been absent from the public eye in recent years, it's pretty clear that Buzzi has accomplished that goal and then some. The characters that she has brought life to throughout her career weren't just memorable, they're iconic.
After suffering from several strokes in July of 2022, it's been reported that Ruth is currently bedridden and incapacitated. Despite the difficult circumstances that she currently finds herself in, Buzzi's husband of more than 43 years, Kent Perkins, says that she is handling her situation 'bravely' with humor. Just stayed up all night on internet RU-vid watching everthing I could find on Ruth Buzzi. Always remembered liking her comedy on various shows, but never specifically tracked down just her stuff. Doing that made me a fan, and I'm exhausted now from laughing all night long. She really gave her all as the purse-swinging spinster for Dean Martin celebrity roasts; she gave me so so many laughs. Now at 70 myself, I can sympathize with her aging problems and 'drawing down' on activities. Can never thank her enough for all the laughs!

My mother and I loved watching Ruth on the Carol Burnette show together. We would always stop what we were doing just to see her comedic talents. Even while she had her appearances on Sesame Street she was still always so hilarious. My mother also just recently had a stroke back in April; just four months before Ruth had hers. She is currently regaining her strength at a nursing care facility, and every chance I get to visit with her I always share the times that we laughed the hardest together. Ironically I am definitely going to show her clips of Ruth Buzzi’s performances so we can laugh like we did back then. God bless ya Ruth Buzzi!

I was impressed by Ruth the minute I saw her on Laugh-In in the 1960s. I absolutely loved when she laughed to the tune of Holiday For Strings on one show. I wrote to her and asked if that tune was recorded and she wrote back telling me it was on the first Laugh-In album. I immediately purchased the record and still have it today. In 1984, I had the good fortune to have Breakfast with Ms. Buzzy, along with Jo Anne Worley at the Good Neighbor Restaurant in Studio City. Jack Tellander, who was the Producer of Film on Laugh In invited me. The humor at the table was Legendary! Ruth was so funny but also warm and welcoming while meeting me. Jo Anne was as well. This is my favorite memory of Ruth Buzzy.

I loved watching reruns of You Can't Do That on Television on Nickelodeon in the 80's. Had no idea Ruth Buzzi was on the show. That's so cool. Also watched Pound Puppies when I was a kid and I had no idea she voiced one of the characters. She was great on Laugh-In. Started liking that show around 92 or so when I watched one of the Laugh in specials/reunion show that was on tv that year with my dad.

I was ready (dreading) to read that Ruth Buzzi suffered the same fate as the great Beatrice Lillie, who suffered a stroke shortly after filming "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (and she already had shown signs of dementia) and was incapacitated for over 20 years until she finally died in 1989 at age 94. Happily this wasn't the case for the wonderful Ms. Buzzi. Comic brilliance can be a dangerous thing.

People have a way of bouncing back from strokes - one of my fav movies is "the whales of August" - this was years after Bette Davis had her severe stroke on the set of "hotel" - along with Lillian Gish, Ann Sothern, Vincent Price - and Ann Sothern's daughter Tisha, as well as lillian Gish's daughter had brief cameo's - all gave fantastic performances in a fast paced quirky movie -
