This song touched my soul for multiple reasons. First of all, the song "Aloha Oe" was composed by our talented haku mele, Queen Lili'uokalani, who I deeply admired. Secondly, it was in honor of Army 1st Lt. Nainoa K. Hoe, who died while serving in Iraq for our country. Nainoa was a 1995 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and so am I. His dad was also a combat medic and I was also a medic in the U.S. Army. Lastly, Ruthie Ann survived that fatal crash that took the life of her daughter, Abigail, in 2018. Ruthie was also 7 months pregnant with their other daughter but lost that child also. Needless to say, I needed kleenex after watching this video. It was a truly a beautiful thing to watch.

I cannot get through the song without tearing up, so touching to hear that song. Let us NEVER forget those that have given their lives in defense of this country - FLY the FLAG every day. That picture of the fallen soldier and his mother and brother on the beach and Rutie singing just made me tear up. May God keep that Fallen Soldier by his side and have his spirit live high in the Mountains and on the Beaches of his beloved country. May he rest in PEACE.

The best concert! So emotional after hearing the story of Allen Hoe and his son Lt Nainoa Hoe. And then when Ruthie Ann got choked up. 😭🥹🥰

Very touching tribute. Especially Allen Hoe story. I thought Ms Ruthie Ann Miles did a fantastic job singing the Hawaiian song. What an emotional performance you could feel every word.

What a courageous performance. Maybe the most powerful thing I've ever watched. These two people have so much in common. I don't know how she pulled herself together.

Let all the new comers in the United States to know, understand the values of freedom and democracy that they just come and have it and should never take it for granted. Respect of our flag of freedom which many men were sacrificed their lives for

This story hit the hardest last night. The fact that my husband was deployed around there at that time makes it even more real. I also didn’t realize that the singer’s daughter died when she was about 5 years old. I think the song was even more special because she knows the pain that the dad feels.

I agree with you. I actually just finished watching the recorded event. What a magnificent performance by Ruthie Ann Miles. It was very heartfelt and quite emotional for me to learn of 1 Lt. Hoe’s story. As a veteran, I never served in combat. However, my heart goes out to all the veterans who have sacrificed so much, with their lives, for our country. May their memories live on forever in the hearts of those who loved them. 🙏

What a touching tribute this dear woman, Ruthie, sang with all her heart and soul in respect of Combat Medic Allen Hoe whose son, 1st Lt Nainoa Hoe gave his life in Iraq for this country.. What made this even more touching for me and I guess everyone who may know the background story for Ruthie Ann is that In 2018 she and her daughter were crossing a street in Brooklyn, NY when they and other pedestrians were struck by a car that drove through a red light. Ruthie was injured but sadly, her daughter Abigail was killed. At the time, Ruthie was also 7 months pregnant with their other daughter but lost that child also. So I can understand and empathize when she broke down a bit on the 1st chorus. What a sweet and dear woman, may the Lord bless her and her family.

I think Ruthie Ann also lost her daughter and her unborn daughter. She is sinning because she knows what the loss of a child feels like.

The irony of singing this song and dedicating it to gold star families of Americans (the same people who took the land from the Queen of Hawaii who wrote the song)

isn't this song about a queen deposed of her country, lamenting her kingdom and people against the American invaders?
