RV Air conditioner install on our Grand Design Reflection 312 BHTS
We decided to go with the 13,500 BTU vs the 15,000 btu as we have for the living room/kitchen area of the RV. UPDATE, *******There is a Copper Thermostat wire (not the electrical) somewhere in the unit, that gets connected to the cool for the AC to control the temperature so the coils do not freeze, notice. also if you would like you can cut the shoot lower to allow air to pass through the vents built in the cover

First off. Great video. Gave me the confidence to Install the same model on my TT. I was curious. On mine once I installed the final cover the air seemed to it be as strong like the fabric chute wasn’t directed to the center area. I went back and read directions and on mine it said once the chute was secured to the tape area to cut the excess off. I did that and the air was so much better. Again thanks for the video

Hey. Thank you so much for the kind words. You are correct. Two things I want to point out. 1. I did have to go back and cut the Shute to make it even. 2. I forgot the copper thermostat that you stick in the coils on the inside. I had to go back and do that after I noticed heavy frost building up on the coil. Thanks so much for you comments and I’m glad this video was helpful. Enjoy your camping season.

The thermostat wire doesn't go to the existing thermostat but is a separate wire that runs usually into the wall where the room light switch area. So you can install a thermostat for that particular room. It is also best to line the cavity with reflective duct wrap to keep air going in the correct area and not between the roof and ceiling.

Thank you so much for this video!! I live full time in my 2021 Palomino Solaire 316rlts. Mine was wired for a front a/c including 50amp and breaker in panel but there was a vent instead of ac. My rear is also a Mach 15k ducted. I followed you’re video to the T. Bought the same 13.5k Mach and ceiling assembly you did. Did everything like you did and this girl was able to do all by herself, yay! Except for lifting it up, a neighbor lifted it in the bucket of a skid steer bobcat to me on the roof. Again, thank you so very much! I can finally start sleeping in my bedroom again during all this heat down south! ❤️🙆🏻‍♀️🥰

Thank you so much for the comments I really appreciate it. I did want to mention that there is a small thermostat bare copper wire that needs to be in inserted in the coils or the coils with frost over, I forgot to mention that in the video. I searched many videos related to adding a 2nd AC and you provided a perfect layman process to follow, appreciate the reality! I will be installing this weekend while our Michigan weather is mild and cool for a few days. We still have a few more months left with HOT temps in the 80-90's with high humidity and look forward to having a 2nd AC during those days! Thanks again, Michigan misses you guys!

Great video, my only input is disconnecting the batteries will not disconnect the AC voltage. Think a person needs to ensure shore power is not connected and that the breaker is tripped, and battery power is disconnected for the second thermostat if used until install.

Hi, good job on the install. Just a little advice, you should really tape off the holes in the opening between the ceiling and roof. As you have it setup right now you are drawing in most of your return air from the attic instead of inside the RV.

By not twisting your connections together before you put the wire nut on, you have created a resistance issue that could cause a fire by arcing wires.
@TSquadRVing
@TSquadRVing 2 года назад
Hey thanks for watching. I do take safty very serious. And I always say “do at your own risk I do things my way and if you are unsure that you should hire someone”. That being said Some brands of wire nuts specifically say not to pre twist. And that twisting the wire before placing wire nut on will not hold securely But the short answer is no it is not required to twist the wire. If you feel that twisting the wire is safer, then go for it. I do it both ways. So there is no wrong way. Just making sure the wire nut is completing tighten to a point where it doesn’t not twist off.

@@TSquadRVing I did a deep dive; got out my coat hanger and went fishing in the wall behind the bedroom light switch. On my first cast I snagged on the bundle of 6 copper wires! For power, I hooked one of the six (yellow) into the 12V power going to the light switch. I got bogged down when searching the ceiling opening for a 12V ground. As luck would have it, the guy helping with my solar offered to add a ground (and 12V power) to the ceiling opening. Whether or not this all gets the AC functioning remains to be seen. Time will tell.

@TSquadRVing
@TSquadRVing 3 года назад
Hey. thanks so much for watching. I was told by several RV Maintenance guys that the two ducts on sides of the opening is the leftover Duct when they cut the opening and placed the ceiling vent. (The vents for the 1st AC) but could be wrong. The Thermostat wire is for the room only and that the wire is in the wall near the switch. Yes a second thermostat would be needed to control the second AC. But so many RV are built different. If there is a shoot coming down like mine pay attention to the directions. I forgot to cut the shoot even where I pealed the double sided tape. Or the dump shoots won’t work because it’s only allowing the soot to push through the small vents. ( I did end up doing it) Thanks and hope I answered your questions. Take care and good luck.

Can I install a 2nd AC on a 30 amp Rv ( 2020 Keystone passport)
@TSquadRVing
@TSquadRVing 2 года назад
Thank you for watching, and that's a great question. So if you have a 30amp system it can only run the one AC @15K BTU or 13500K BTU, A 30 amp will not run both AC together, I've heard of someone we know that installed a second smaller roof AC in the front with a 30Amp. But.............. They only use one at a time. the reason for that is they like their bedroom cooler at night so they just turn that one on. If you ran two I'm almost certain it will trip the breaker or maybe something worse. I would follow the manufactures suggestion on this one. We both may be surprised what they say.
