This is for ME! I am 4 months into a camper I just hate. The floorplan is wrong in EVERY way, and not even a place for my 3 dogs to have a dog bed. I was too focused on price, weight, frame material, etc. I thought I could just make do. I should have started with the floorplan and storage configuration and then worked on the other pieces of the puzzle. I am now having to sell it myself and buy another one that I should have in the first place. Thank you, Liz!!

Oh my gosh! So sorry you are going through this, Luann. We meet lots of folks on the road who bought the wrong camper. There truly is a lot to think about! Wishing you best of luck selling it and happy camper shopping!

Man, so sorry to hear that! But you know, they say the first camper you buy is the one you want and the second one is the one you need. We first bought the one we could pay cash for, then the second one was everything we wanted and got a loan for. And everyone was price gouging as well. Anyhow, good luck!

a w/d IS a MUST appliance if there is a space for it, for me it goes along with why i do not stay in hotel/motels, i am the only one who has been in my bed and my clothes are the only ones to be washed, who likes to sleep in a bed that 20 thousand+ others have done what and if you only saw what kinda stains were on those clothes to be previously washed..... no thank you it is $ well spent and peace of mind!! happy travels

I think it's worth mentioning that if you plan on actual food prep and cooking that you will need more countertop and cabinet storage. My RV kitchen actually has a separate prep sink. I see so many RV kitchens that are too small to be practical. A dishwasher comes in quite handy too. I love my central vac and on-demand water heater. No waiting for showers.

Im in theGrand Canyon working and you are so right about the heated underbelly. Still in the 30’s at night here. I had lots of issues in March with freezing. Also a bad taste in water even though I have a drinking water hose and filter. Something about sediment in the water heater. Its a lot as a female on her own. Your so lucky to have a handy partner. I find it more difficult than managing my home! But its only been 2 years and 3 RV’s later. Learning curve for sure! Ill be following as I decide whether to buy another or go back to stationary living.

We started "sometiming" in 2019 with a travel trailer that we could afford at the time and a floor plan we actually loved. Louise had never RV'ed and it had been a long time for me, so we weren't sure if we were going to even like RV'ing. We loved it so much, we set a plan in motion. We retired, sold our house and are in the process of trading up to a fifth wheel. Our plans and decisions have been slow and methodical, but they are working out just fine. By May 2023 we will be full time travelers. Thanks to you Liz and Paul for sharing all your knowledge with us. It has helped immensely!!

Thanks for the great information Liz! There is always something new to learn. I love your remodel. I'm glad you mentioned saving propane. We are fairly new to RVing and at first I couldn't understand why so many people were using instant pots and air fryers for cooking in their RVs. Then I realized, if you're hooked up to shore power, you're saving propane by using these appliances instead of the cook top or oven. Silly me! So far, so good with the camper we've chosen. Can't wait to get back on the road at again. It's always great to see Paul, too. You two are a great team.

Wow Liz it’s so awesome that Paul’s so talented and can do so much work himself. He seems very competent!🥰 My husbands willing to learn. RU-vid’s are a great help! We’re planning on being part time but we will be on the road 2-3 months at a time. We’re getting a Grand design 2970RL trailer. It has a 5th wheel floor plan and a nice size kitchen with a 12 volt 10 cubic solar fridge. I do whole food plant base cooking so I need a good kitchen but the trash can will have to go under the sink unfortunately. Maybe we can add a pull out so it’s easier to get to. Thanks for the great video.

You mentioned a large enough refrigerator, what about the stove how important is it to have a residential stove for cooking.
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing 2 года назад
Hi Jeff, yes I could do a whole video about what you need in an RV kitchen. All eight of the campers I've owned have had gas stoves which have been great. The trend is shifting towards all-electric campers, something we've been seeing for the past few years in Class A motorcoaches. Water boils faster on an induction. We don't know of anyone who uses a residential stove in an RV. If you are a serious baker you may wish for a residential oven though.

Hello, Sure did miss Pauls opening line with you, so glad you explained. Anyway, you said this was your 8th RV. If you can explain or let me know how do you financially afford to swap out? Or get new without going further in debt? If this is a nosy question or question for another blog please let me know. I would love to have a new bigger RV, tow with a 4x4 2008 Dually can pull most anything. I have a 1/2” spray in roof, the rubber roofing got replaced 5 years ago and it is guaranteed for life, along with the RV being paid in full. Never have any issues with my fridge or AC. I have 3 holding tanks 2-gray, 1-fresh & 1-black, also I maintain the big 12’ slide roof which has white flex-seal on it. RV Sits on a 12” I-beam and the 30’ layout is fantastic. However, RV’s don’t last forever and I know in the future I will have to replace it. Just was wondering about the financial cost or how you go about changing out RV’s without going further in debt. Thanks again and Happy Trails Michelle Tallahassee. FLorida !!

Hi Michelle! This is such a great question and I probably could do a video on it. I’ll give you the short answer first bc it’s hard to sum up all the transactions. I think it’s a combination of luck, hard bargaining, good maintenance and high value updates. Some examples: When I sold the Chinook camper van I made a profit and had it less than a year and drove it 15k miles. It was a cream puff when I bought it and I improved it with: replaced carpet with vinyl plank, replaced suspension, new tires, cellular booster and more. These campers are rare and I got all my money back including what I put in it and then some. Before II purchased the brand new 260RD Grand Design fifth wheel, I joined a GD Facebook group. I learned that most people at that time (2019) were paying 30% below MSRP. So that’s what I paid. After Paul and I got together we decided to upgrade to what we have now, the 310GK. We shopped nationwide and negotiated price at a dealer 1600 miles away. We did not tell them we had a trade-in until after we agreed on price. They offered us what I’d paid for it nearly a year earlier. That was Feb 2020. The others were always well maintained with upgrades. I always sold privately at the start of camping season (in Kentucky) to get top dollar. Hope this helps and best of luck!

The thing I discovered living in my TT is the bed set up. I hate that I can’t get out from the side because the wheel wells are in the way and there’s cabinets above my head that I’ve bumped into! Its brutal changing the sheets. Mostly I hate that I have to do a crab walk to get out of bed! Next trailer has to have a better bed set up. Second is going thru the bathroom to get to bedroom! Awkward if you have over nite guests. Cabinets that are big holes! Hard to organize. Unfortunately some of these thing dont get discovered until you live in them! This is my third and I still screwed up!

There truly is so much to think about when shopping. When I had the van I had to convert the sofa into a bed every single day. It was not an easy thing to get it back into a sofa. Like I said in the video, my priorities were for a bed that stayed a bed, a sofa that stayed a sofa and a table that stayed a table. But that was camper number SIX for me, so don't feel bad!

Hi Julie! We do not. If we were ordering one we would prob get one. Not sure how much if any difference they would make on sound. On insulation dual pane would prevent condensation.

You have to be really overweight carrying all that stuff. I know you have a 2500HD and Timbrens but still...you travel with so much stuff! Have you ever gone to a CAT scale? We travel light in our 311BHS which is much lighter than your Solitude and we're right at max weight after packing only essentials and putting anything heavy behind the axels. We have a 2020 Silverado 2500HD with the upgraded 11,350 GVWR too!
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing 2 года назад
Thank you! Yes, we've been to the Cat Scale and are good. But we cannot travel with a full fresh water tank. Another thing that we did was upgrade our tires to handle the extra weight. We wouldn't mind having a new 3500 but they can't be found these days.

@robh063 2 года назад
@@LizAmazing Not to mention you would pay $80K-90K for a new one. I will say that every time I pack our RV for a trip and hook up, I think about you guys and say to myself...They travel all over and I know they're a lot heavier than I am so I'm good to go! LOL

Be very conservative on doing renovations on any RV. I understand you want it to work for you, but you should be able to put it back to it original setup. Once you modify like they have, you limit your audience for resale. This will also effect your resale value. If you start painting cabinets, pulling out cabinets, etc, there’s a good chance the person you are selling to doesn’t like your taste. Everyone is different and this may cause people to pass on your Rv, because many people are not buying these to have another project. Not saying you shouldn’t make it your own, but you should use caution and think about the future. These are not sticks and bricks that can be done over many times. Once or twice done the wrong way will land your Rv in a homeless encampment.
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing 2 года назад
That's a great point, Mike. We wondered the same thing when we took our couch out. Fortunately, in our case they are easily replaced. But there definitely is a point of no return in renovations where you could really hurt your resale. Thanks for your comment!
