KUDOS to you my dear!! YOUVE GRADUATED !! from full service rv park sites to the nitty gritty ULTIMATE FREEDOM mode of REAL RVing!! just add some solar panels and youre way more independant than before!! you might want to think about trading in your truck for a much smaller vehicle, wd b cheaper and easier to drive n park etc. paper plates and navy showers are a mainstay of boondockers! good show!!

We love boondocking and have been doing it for a number of years, including yearly in Quartzsite. Our critical tank is the gray tank, we carry 150 gallons of fresh water. One additional tip on dish washing is to use a small plastic tub inside your kitchen sink. Collect your dishwashing water. If it doesn’t go through your tanks, it is OK to pour it on the ground. So use your dishwashing water to help a local bush or tree get a drink. The other tip is to collect your shower water before it is warm. Use this water for other water needs around the RV. Brushing your teeth, potty, dishes, etc. And of course the primary tip is conserve toilet flushes. If it is yellow, let it mellow, brown, flush it down. Yes, you do meet some interesting people boondocking at Quartzsite….
@ScubaSteveCanada
@ScubaSteveCanada Год назад
Gray water dumping is no longer allowed in California, it doesn't matter if it comes out of a tank, a bucket or a container. Gray water dumping is no longer allowed to go into the "washes" in Arizona or California. Please don't toss your gray water on the ground, dispose of it properly at the dump station. Why did these regulations change? Dish water also has food particles in it. When you toss it, guess what all those little critters like to eat. Your information is way out of date; wise idea to check the regulations to see if anything has changed ... because it has.
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing Год назад
Thanks for the tips, Vic! I've also heard it is ok to dump your gray in the desert but I don't know for sure. I thought soap was a concern. More research needed, I guess. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video!
@vicb8975
@vicb8975 Год назад
Liz, you can only dump water that DOES NOT GO THROUGH YOUR TANKS. If it goes through your tank, it becomes “grey or black water” and CANNOT BE DUMPED ON THE GROUND OR BODY OF WATER. If you collect your wash dishwater, your hand washing water, you can dump these from your container to the desert. ALL WATER that goes through your tanks MUST be properly disposed of in an approved disposal site. We do use soaps that are bio degradable and wipe all of our dishes before we wash them. For the two of us this saves 4 gal/day of going in the gray tank and helps feed the local plants. NOTE: Disposal of Waste - The Bureau of Land Management has a nationwide rule against dumping sewage on the ground, however it allows persons to dump “wash water”. (See § 8365.1-1 Sanitation.)

I am 51 years old and facing full-time rv living out of necessity and also because I'm super excited to do it and have been considering it in planning for it for years. We boondock now and then for a night or two. We are limited by the batteries and tank capacity in our current travel trailer. To conserve water, we scrape our dishes and then spray them with a mix of 50/50 water and vinegar and a few drops of Dawn in a spray bottle and wipe with a paper towel. Then put them in a bucket and set them aside to wash really well at the end of the day. Since they are very clean before washing, we use very little wash water. After we wash dishes we save the rinse water in old Downey jugs and use it to flush the toilet. Plus, we put a plastic bowl in the bathroom sink. Use the toilet, wash hands and capture the handwashing water in the bowl, then use that captured water to flush. This reduces the water in the gray tank and helps make sure we are getting enough water in the black tank to avoid problems there.

@@LizAmazing ...I've often wondered about boondocking for a woman on her own, and if she would be a bit hesitant for obvious reasons, but from what you described, it's nothing like I imagined. I'm a loner and I have a small caravan. When I book a powered site I have all the comforts of home. (air con, TV ....videos etc.) and I usually get a site close to amenities, or close enough to drive to amenities. When not on a powered site, in winter, I just put my solar blanket out when I set up, and cook on gas or the camp fire, and as all my lighting is LED's, power is no problem. My camping trips are always in conjunction with a 4x4 trip. We have one coming up at the end of April for 4 days and I can't wait. Good to see you are still enjoying life Liz. Stay happy and safe. Cheers from Australia.

I also have several places to see/ things to do in the western states. I didn’t know about LTVA until this episode. I will definitely have to go there and check it out. Thanks for the info

That was really good information for people. This is my first time out here in Quartzsite. Been here about 5 1/2 months and I’m leaving Sunday. Found a great spot with no one that close by, I met some neighbors that have been coming here for several years and I’ll be back again next year. I’ve been in Laposa North, and all the people that have come and gone been super nice. I’ve heard no gunshots at all and most of the 4 Wheelers drive the speed limits. I found that I didn’t like the water that was available for free. I don’t have a filtration system so I went into town every week and a half or so to fill up jugs and it’s $1 for 5 gallons. And you just can’t beat the price $180 for my 5 1/2 months has been perfect. Solar really is the way to go out here. I have a full system with four 100 amp hour batteries running my fifth wheel. Only time I needed a little bit of extra power was during cloudy and rainy days. Safe travels for everyone.

I just bought a m/h about 1 week ago. Class C 1999 only 32k miles on it. it's immaculate! I plan on living in it full time after selling my 2.3 acres in WA state and the home on it. My husband just passed 2 months ago. We had both planned on doing this. I plan on getting a Jackery portable generator so I can use portable solar panels till I get some installed permanent on the roof of rv. Right now I am just getting started on making some changes to the dinette and couch area in the rv. I want to boondock most of the time. You are my inspiration Liz because losing my husband I know I can still do this on my own. My career was driving buses (charter/and school buses) and I have a good head on my shoulders to buck up and make this happen. Also I rode my harley davidson cross country 3 times. I'm not intimidated by the roads. Keep putting out these great videos. I have taken many notes of your wisdom from the road! (I'm 68 in August) Wish me ... not luck... but great travels! lol. I will also invest in an E-trike instead of tow a car. I don't want the added expense of insurance and fuel for a car. I don't want to tow anything. My rv is 28 ft long. Me and my *6 cats*.... we'll see how that goes. Zipped screen tents for them once parked with a tunnel from a window in rv to the tent.

Hi Kathy! Nice hearing from you again. I met someone in Quartzsite who is also traveling with six cats...and a dog. She has a Class C as well. It can be done. She had a tent for them outside and even a tunnel thing for them to go in and out. If you get an etrike be sure to get one that will handle rough trails or bumpy roads at least so you can use it more often. GREAT travels!!! And keep me posted.

Glad that you had a great time boondocking at Quartzsite. It is understandable that you would be nervous at first. So many scary stories. We’ve boondocked on and off for 7 years in our diesel pusher (looks to be the same size as yours), and prefer it to the alternative. We went with lithium batteries and solar last year. It has been a boondocking game changer over our previous flooded acid batteries recharging with our generator. Last December we boondocked on BLM land about 30 miles south of Quartzsite. Very peaceful and enjoyable. And, you are correct, there is a wonderful sense of community out there. Safe travels.

I’m surprised you don’t have any solar. Your rig is so big I would think you’d get quite alot of power from them. I hope the more you boondock, the more comfortable you’ll feel. There are so many lovely places to explore. Best wishes, Liz!🍀🙋🏻‍♀️

Thanks Theresa. I will definitely be adding solar if I'm going to do more boondocking. My friends never turned on their generator the whole time bc of all their solar. Something to think about for sure! Thanks for the good wishes!

👍🏻😁 I just started full time nomad life, first boondocking stays. I like the freedom of diversity and large spaces. Got my solar system installed by Mike from Navigation Nowhere. Smart Victron system that moderates my 50amp shore power, my 4750 generator, & my 1500 watt solar on roof. I appreciate you channel and well thought out videos because I have / had the same thoughts, concerns, & questions.

Glad that you enjoyed the desert Liz. I was out in Quartzsite from November until the end of January and it was my second winter in Quartzsite. I always stay at Laposa south. I normally would stay until the middle to the end of March but this year I have a camp host job in Tennessee and needed to be there on 1 March. I did go ahead and buy the $180 pass. For power I use my generator and a 100 Watt portable solar panel to keep my batteries charged. My only complaint this year was that it was unusually cold and extremely windy. ❤

Hi Liz, I boondock 95% of the time with the remainder at RV resorts and/or formal campgrounds. The generators at the LTVAs drive me crazy but I found an out-of-the-way spot at La Posa North where only smaller RVs will fit. Although I have a generator, I never use it; it's all 400 Watts of solar panels. With the exception of charging my ebike, everything runs off of DC power, My battery bank uses LiFePo4 (akaLFP) consisting of 156Amps of usable power (dual 75 AH batteries). I can run indefinitely as long as I get the sunshine. Otherwise only 2 - 3 days during cloudy days. I totally eliminated washing dishes with water, I now use a spray bottle with a vinegar/water mixture. While waiting for the water pipes to send the hot water, that water goes into a water jug to repurpose it before going into the tanks as waste water. A lot of times, the boondocking locations are much better than a formal campground, which is why I do it so often. Plus you can't complain about free or minimal fees. Cheers, Steve

But we have gone and stayed at a Walmart store, also at a truck stop, a casino parking lot and if you go inside and sign up for their club card they give you 20- 30 dollars in casino credit. Once you lose that money, you go back to the RV. Also, a few restaurants.

Lots and lots of little tricks to saving water, which is a must, with saving space on the gray/black tanks. One idea that I heard that have never used is to open valves on gray and black to use both tanks. Me personally I haven’t been in that kinda bind. Manage water. My biggest issue is battery. I don’t have lithium. It all depends on how conservative you want to go. There’s some, in my opinion, crazy ideas out there. Boondocking is a different level of camping and will get you out of your comfort zone, which you are finding out. I think it is awesome that you are willing to give it a shot.
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing Год назад
Thanks Ira! I have heard of people adding a valve at the end to combine gray tanks, I guess that would work with black as well. I've heard some places will let you dump your gray on the ground, but I don't know for sure. Boondocking was definitely out of my comfort zone but I'm glad I did it! Thanks for watching!

Great boondocking info Liz on the LTVA’s. You covered all the important details of camping on BLM land. Our camping group does the 2 week stay at La Posa Tyson Wash every year, this is our 5th year, during the RV show in January. We have a blast with our ATV’s 4 wheelin right out of our camp and into the desert. The Tyson Wash is the off road freeway, you can go north/south pretty fast and just exit the wash when ever you want. The State is putting in another dump site and water station in La Posa Tyson Wash. It was under construction when we were there in January and should be up and running for next season. That’ll help the long lines at the dump station at La Posa South. Keep your great videos coming and happy trails. ♥️
@LizAmazing
@LizAmazing Год назад
Thanks so much for your comment, Greg. So glad you know La Posa. I heard a rumor they are actually going to close the dump and water sites in South and only have the Tyson Wash stations so to better monitor the situation. We shall see what happens! We love boondocking. Especially Forest Service sites because we love the PNW. We camp during the week and head home for weekends so we are week warriors, not full time. I so wish mfg would get with this program. I’d like to see a fifth wheel around 26 ft that would have 80+ fresh, 70+ gray and at least 50 black. And truly 4 season with even dbl pane windows. Not because we want to camp in the really cold, but it really does make a difference all the time. Solar, generator options and the such. The Artic Fox 27-5L is awesome but pushes that 30 ft and very much limits where we go. Mountains, trees,hikes, biking etc. I hope this opens you up to more of these types of experiences Liz

I use to RV primitive camp a lot in the 1990s, with a family. Cram your freezer full of fresh food. It is important to have some other street legal vehicle, IMO. My procedures for primitive camping primary focused on the gray water tank. I always used biodegradable soap. I always carried at least 2 fresh water 5 gallon containers. A 5 gallon fuel container also a must. I always carried 2 siphon hoses, one for water, the other for fuel. I used the containers to wash my hair and do spit bathes outside the RV. Use a plastic dish pan in the shower and kitchen sink. Bring along a drain tank for your RV. Collect the shower water and the sink water and find a remote location to disperse it. Use the 5 gallon containers and drain tank to replenish your fresh water and dump your black water at a pay station, or state free station if available. Always fill your gas before finding your spot. Use your generator to replenish your batteries, phones, other rechargeable devices couple hours every 2-3 days. Avoid using your RV propane heater, it uses a lot of propane. Instead buy a down comforter, use your heater in the am until the RV is comfortable. Never use your engine battery to power accessories, only your RV cabin battery. Buy a small size jump start device for emergency situations. Solar options and battery back up devices are worth exploring. You should be able to live outdoors without support for a couple weeks, but I always made it a game to see how long I could push it. Best of luck!
