I'm from South Dakota and lived in the Blackhills I love your videos and enjoyed your Hills videos! Such a great place to ride and the air is so fresh from the Blackhills spruce. I just bought my 1st 5th wheel new and learn alot from you two. Thanks
I just discovered your channel and love your style and attitude!! Also, my husband and I greatly admire and respect ALL VETERANS, POW / MIA's!! Veterans are the bedrock of this country!! Tara, hope your health problems (Lyme disease) remain seldom seen. Rock on you guys!!!
Hello from S Florida! I road out to Sturgis from Florida years ago. It's always best to stay a week after everyone leaves, you were smart. Even though there was no construction when I was there, I was anticipating Mt Rushmore to be bigger also! I'm getting my coach this summer, and going fulltime with my motorcycles next year! Love your channel....always great content....thx!
Suggestion, looks like you might have missed a beautiful scenic drive when you left Mt Rushmore, when you leave Mt Rushmore, go left on 244, then take 16A towards Custer state park, there are a few tunnels you go thru and some really cool circular wooden bridges. At least 2 of those tunnels, when you look thru the tunnel, you see the monument, what I read was they built the tunnels for that purpose, then figured how to get the roads to them, I would suggest you take that drive if you go back! I really enjoy your videos, you have went most of the same places we went in 2015.
Both pt 1 and 2 are great thank you both for Some great info . I lived in Alaska for 25 yrs and some of the best scenery ever . But now it’s time to explore the lower 48 mostly northern .
Great job editing......we can spend HOURS in Custer State Park, it never gets old and so much to see and do....we were just there yesterday, saw buffalo, pronghorn, coyote, donkeys and lots of people! Black Hills is one of our favorite places to spend the summer.
Great video awesome! Had to watch this one on the big screen tv. Tara you do an amazing job filming and editing. Thank you for sharing. Can't wait to travel out there.
Go back and watch your video when you leave Mt. Rushmore and you pause the video and point to George. That parking lot on your left is free and there is a little trail behind you less than a quarter of a mile. For wildlife, go back to Custer State Park and drive the wildlife loop. Motorcycles are allowed. Huge tip....be sure to stop in Hill City at the Alpine Inn for lunch. That is a local favorite as well as almost a state destination.
Oh. Bummer. I would be disappointed not getting closer. Get out that mega zoom 🤣. Love the low angle filming while riding. Cool perspective. Wow. That “tunnel” looked like it could only take a bike. Nice that they have those pull off spots. Yeah. Our dually would not fit. 🤣 Another reason why we should have a follow behind car. This makes me chant to watch the Deadwood series too. Good tips. The “right body” 😅. Sounds like quite a hike. Cool. A Speak easy. Some sweeeet rides there at that dealership. The antique stuff would be cool at that giant Wall Drug store. Good tip about no dogs on the Badlands. Love the Bloopers. Take care on the road. Alice
Hey, my husband and I are from Florida also and went on our Indian to Sturgis the same year you did and took the same route to Mt. Rushmore. We stayed in Keystone and loved the Steam train that you take from there to Hill city. It was a great scenic ride thru the mountains. Plan to do it again soon. Missed a lot, liked Custer state park also.
O my gosh, I got so "homesick" when I watched this. When my husband was alive and my kids were young, we used to travel from our home in Washington state to Minnesota to visit his family so we have done this trip sooooooo many times. Unfortunately, it has already been 7 years since we were back there. This last time it was with my sister, and one of my sons and 3 of my grandkids. Great memories
What a fabulous trip! You guys have such wonderful videos! I feel like I am with you! I have never been there....it’s on my bucket list.....thanks so much for making & sharing your videos! Much enjoyed!
Thank you! Perfect timing! We have to go to Oregon and take care of some business, so we decided to go to Mount Rushmore on the way; we've always wanted to go there. This is very helpful in planning our trip. 🙂
Was a neat leather shop between deadwood and lead on a three digit road? Just down from a neat golf course ,,that I played several times. Glad I was at rushmore over twenty years ago,,before all the commercial bs like indoor parking! Nice video,,brought back lots of good memories. Thanks
So interesting that you put this video up on the exact same day my daughter and son in law drove through Sturgis ( and visited Mt. Rushmore) on their way to Madison for a family emergency. Truly the blessing for a sad situation. She was actually face timing me as they drove through that same tunnel! (The first one you filmed, not the Needle's Eye Tunnel) They actually got to Mt. Rushmore and there was NO traffic!! First time I was there it was cloudy and foggy....and we had to wait for the clouds to lift just a little to see the faces. But they didn't... the weather was wonderful today.
Just found this channel. Love that you are riding an Indian and enjoying RV life. such fun videos. We took our kids on the motorbikes to South Dakota last summer what a great place to ride and sight see. great video
We were there a few years ago with our two oldest grand kids. When we were at the Needles there were a couple of climbers on the rock just in front of the white truck at 8:46 practicing with their climbing ropes.
When you go back, ride the Custer State Park Wildlife Loop. That’s where you see the bison and other wildlife. Also, ride down from Deadwood through Hill City and Custer, stop at Crazy Horse. Much nicer than the route through Rapid City via I90.
We were there the same week, went to Custer park one day and saw nothing, went back the next day and all the critters were out. When we arrived at Rushmore there was a huge thunderstorm coming, the cars were getting parked on the top level, but when we came through on the bike the attendant said "hail coming" and moved a barricade out of the way so we got a lower level spot. I did hail, rain, lightning etc for about an hour when we were there. Awesome area for riding.
My dad was one of those missilemen stationed at Ellsworth AFB just outside Rapid City during the '60s - the main thing I remember about Wall Drug from back then was the JACKALOPE! Wall Drug was THE place to get to see the one, the ONLY, the mythical Jackalope that had ever been captured! (Wink, wink!) To us kids, THAT was the reason Wall Drug was so famous!
Beautiful day and beautiful trip video. Chad good choice of music. Excellent video. I loved it. Thanks! Rushmore is on my bucket list now. Thank you guys. God bless uou
Love your videos and the music! So glad I found your channel. Planning to buy a '21 Roadmaster Dark Horse this year and your videos are inspiring. Have ridden many of the rides you've put on display but excited to try out many others that look really good. Keep up the great work!
You all need to check out Bobarosa in Del Rio, TN. I’m not sure if your RV is too big for the camp ground part but it’s an awesome biker bar to visit. The owners are super fun and hospitable. If you go tell Jessie the crew from Morehead, KY sent you! All bikes are welcome, they have great food if you are out on the bike looking for lunch or dinner. Definitely a great place to check out if you are on a trip to the Blue Ridge parkway.
Cool! We're boondocking near Deadwood, very peaceful up here on the mountain. Maybe we'll see you out there ( if you happen to notice a old bright red ambulance that'll be me, not exactly stealthy ahahaha)
We did that trip in 2007 our very first RV trip, went back in 2008 got Married on horseback in Custer State Park. End up staying a month a week later new hubby had appendix surgery and spent week in hospital in Rapid city😯 but love the whole area of the Black Hills and to me there is nothing more fantastic then Crazy Horse ❤️❤️❤️
I used to work at the KOA campground at Horse Thief lake, and Mount Rushmore is very large. GW's nose is around 20 something feet tall, and his entire head is 60 feet tall.. ;) Hill City SD high schoolers are the only kids that get to graduate at Mount Rushmore. Also, the only school in America authorized to use "Smokey The Bear" as their mascot.. ;) They have a little arena that is even closer than the main observation area, and from there, you can definitely tell just how incredibly large they really are... ;) Glad you got to see them! And visit the beautiful Black Hills... ;)
Just an FYI, The Lodge is still closed, they do have a food truck & coffee house for food & refreshments available but are renting cabins at this time along with the campgrounds being open.Visitor Center hasn't opened yet but do have some tents set up front for information & a few gifts from their shop. Also the Badlands Inn is partially open for getting a room at this time.
We went through there a month before you. Bummer about the construction for you. I guess we were lucky to miss it. On the trip just past the needles tunnel, we stopped to look out a landscape across at a beautiful rocky ridge. With binoculars we found rock climbers on faces of spire rock formations and mountain goats moving across what looked like an impossible face.
Never been to South Dakota sounds nice. I'm sure it quiet down a lot after the rally. :) Always fun to meet up with those you know when you're always on the road. Thanks for the updates. Glad you are staying safe and having fun! - Bloggin Brandi
I told my husband that y'all missed the buffalo. He reminded me that we took the loop through the park to see the animals. It's a must-see when you go back but I don't know that I would ride the bike. The buffalo are literally surrounding your vehicle. The park is beautiful. We took the loop one way through on one day and another day, we entered from the other side and drove through. Completely different perspectives.
Hi from the United Kingdom! We've just discovered you on You Tube. We love the US and visit as often as we can. Just wanted to say we are enjoying your videos very much and love your music. 'Living in America' by Quinn Erwin is a great spinning song and I've just added it to one of my spinning playlists. Stay safe, travel well.
Tara another amazing job with the video and editing. Both weeks in Sturgis, SD where great videos ..! Looks like a awesome place to ride hope you both stay safe and healthy.. The best comment , (we thought they where good people)....laughed out loud.. Thank you for sharing...!!
When you go back to see the faces after they finish the construction. Make sure to see the lighting of the faces . Makes you very proud to be an American and they honor the veterans.
Brought back the memories form our trip in 2017, the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer is a must to see the Buffalo and seeing Mt. Rushmore at night on July 4th was an awesome experience!!!
Too bad you missed out on Rushmore - it's a great park. No wildlife in Custer? We saw bison, wild donkeys, prairie dog towns - I think Custer/Needles Hwy was one of our favorites on our trip. Lots of great riding out there - we want to go back.
Check out Wind Cave next time your in southern half of the Black Hills. Also there is mountain carving called Crazy Horse.... both sites are worth checking out. One week in the Black Hills is a full week. I enjoy your productions!! ✌️🙏
We drove Needles Hwy in our Ford Super Duty 250 and barely made it through one of the tunnels. We had to fold our mirrors in to get through. But such a great drive and we know you really enjoyed it on your motorcycle. Thanks for the video we enjoyed remembering our trip there.
We haul a Jeep behind our RV. A Jeep with no top and doors is a great way to sightsee. That's why it's so common. On a Jeep, nothing needs to be disconnected.
Looks like we are going to need to go to Sturgis....only we would get there a week or two after the rally!!!! Love the quiet places!!! Thanks for another great video!
Please take the National Parks Ranger Tour of Mt Rushmore when construction is complete. It is very informative on how the project was constructed, and you can see a museum with closer views of the faces.
When you plan to come back to The Black Hills get in touch with us. I was 6 months old when my folks took me camping in The Hills. I'm now 65+! And we are RVers... 32 ft Class A Itasca.
I've enjoyed your Sturgis videos. Its on my bucket list.. but its hard to get it check off since my wife and I care for my elderly mom with dementia. One of us always needs to be home with her.. and as she gets older.. I get more worried about leaving for any length of time. My motorcycle got stolen last September.. so I'll need to get some new wheels soon. Looking at the Indian Challenger. Anyway.. I'm living vicariously thru you and others on RU-vid until I can get there myself. Cheers.
@@ChangingLanes Oh I'm not complaining. My life is fantastic. Two beautiful children and we're in the process of building a new log home. Just a little difficult to get away for any length of time. But I'll check Sturgis off of my list one day soon. New bike sometime in the next month. :) Cheers.
Sylvan lake is beautiful!!! Sunday Gulch is an awesome hike at Sylvan lake that takes you through a waterfall...it is a challenging hike but so worth it. Wind cave is really neat too. Like everyone else said take the wildlife loop in Custer to see the animals....early morning or evening is the best time to catch them. I love SD such a beautiful corner of the world.
Thanks Avery nice look at Sturgis. Not I guess it has changed since the 70s. Kids are grown now so maybe will get back. Motorcycle the first time. If you go back there was a bar on needles hwy with a tree grown up the middle of the bar. Also I would go to Terry peek. Ski resort and take the chair lift to top. Have fun stay safe.....
Rochford, South Dakota. Only place to eat there is Moonshine Gulch Saloon. We rode there via Hwy 14. When you leave, take gravel road L305 about 12 miles to hwy 385. Turn left to Deadwood or right to go to Hill City. We took the trip on a BMW R1150RT and Honda ST1100.
