@@NunYa953 and why is that?
@NunYa953
@NunYa953 Месяц назад
@@williamw5604 For a few reasons: 1. RV manufacturers just put the pieces together. They manufacture very few components. 2. Not enough RVs are sold to justify the political gamble of passing such a law. 3. RVs are considered a luxury and cars are a necessity. 4. A lemon law would take the already ridiculous price of RVs and make prices even more ridiculous
@paulhutchinson72
@paulhutchinson72 Месяц назад
Exactly! There should be, as part of the Lemon Law, a clock that starts the day you drive out of the dealership and buyers, users are guaranteed a percentage of time the RV is useable, or it is a Lemon. Having your RV sit a a dealership waiting for repair is just insane.
@werberderber6209
@werberderber6209 Месяц назад
@@NunYa953 I disagree, 1. every vehicle out there has third party parts/vendors where they just assemble it, the auto manufacturer stands behind those parts. 2. It shouldn't matter how many RVs are sold, a lot of them have issues, and that is our (consumers) hard earned money. 3. A car is not a necessity anymore than an RV is a luxury item, I can get any where I want to go via another transportation system. 4. If having a lemon law increases the price by making them stand by their product so be it, people will by fewer RVs which in turn will drive down the price, and you will still have a better product.

Buying an RV is not the concern. The concern is can you trust the manufactuer to build your RV in good condition to last a long time. When you buy new, you never see the frame, the electronics are all brand new. You really can't do a good test on the RV and its functions until you own it. So for a new RV I say NEVER buy a new model until it is tested by other owners. Sorry if you are being the guinny pig here, but you really need to wait a year or two then check the repair records for that manufacturer on that model. The longer you wait, the better. This is what we are seeing with the frames, and as they get older, more RV's with frame damage is being reported. Older RV's can be good but you have to spend a day going over it. The big concern is roof leaks and good walls. for the right price, you can replace everything else if needed and they dont have the crazy electronics in them. for a Motorhome, you want a good motor as well. Have a mechanic look at it. you really need to change the oil and look at the oil. Transmission fluid as well. Brakes and a good running engine. Buy brand new and you may be opening Pandoras Box (if there is an RV called Pandora, I was not pointing you out.)

@williampeacy5217
@williampeacy5217 16 дней назад
You are so right. Typically, the coach warranty is a limited warranty of 1 year. By the time you use it enough to find the bugs, the warranty is over. I have had several different brands of RV vehicles over the last 30 years. Each vehicle I had, I ended up taking back to the dealer to have it fixed. Even if my nearest RV dealer sold the same unit (or a sister twin under the same manufacture but different model - eg, Sunseeker versus Forester). The closer dealer always said they wouldn’t work on warranty work. Extended warranties can be difficult to use. You have to find a dealer that will honor the extended warranty. It isn’t like a car. If you need your Chevy worked on, you can usually take to any Chevy/GM dealer. My Chevy gets its service from a Buick/GMC dealer and the Chevy/GM warranty are accepted. Your Ford E-series unit can be taken to any Ford dealership that services commercial Ford trucks. It is good that the Ford warranty is longer than that of the coach. If you Ford mobile service in your area, you might be able to get them to come out and change the oil on your Ford E-series motorhome. I did it and it cost the same as if I took it to the dealer.

Covid?! Yeah that's no excuse. I bought a new truck (Nissan Frontier) a year ago and it has had zero problems. Then again, car and light truck buyers are protected by lemon laws and there's serious competition, so it behooves the manufacturers to not put out junk. Unfortunately, it won’t. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act will legally allow RV manufacturers to attempt an infinite number of “reasonable repair attempts.” On top of that, the lemon laws that exist for things like vehicles do not apply to RVs. And on top of all that, every new RV owner is forced to sign documents that give dealers and manufacturers complete legal indemnity from lawsuits. Good luck finding a lawyer to take a class action RV lawsuit. Do you know why? The cases are unwinnable.

I’ve been an RV’er for 38 years. It was better decades ago but I always had the same problems: leaks, constant resealing, water pumps, suspension. But they were made better 15 years ago, before we all wanted slides, solar, touch screen panels, etc. But I do hope all the social media comments and channels like this force a change.

We purchased 8 motorhomes over 38 years, 6 used and 2 new. With a two or three year old rig many of the issues had been resolved. Or at least you don’t mind so much because you paid less. But the industry has always been high maintenance purchases. My 1996 Winnebago was the least troublesome, but no slides, no TV, no solar, no levelers, everything manual including the switches. We truly hope channels like Liz’s and all the social media awareness . And we recently considered trading our 2022 Winnebago in for an Entegra but were disappointed with the build quality we saw on the lots. Thank you for your videos

THey will get a ticket for loitering or something. Those days are over. Way back in the late 70s a friend of mine's husband got gas at a gas station in his pick up truck. Well the engine was ruined? Ya want to know why? They put water in the gas. They would not pay to have the truck fixed and told them to pound sand to my friend and hubby. So my friend hung two painters boards together with straps. She hung the straps over her shoulders and there was a board in her front and a board on her back. She painted in big letters, "water in the gas". She walked back and forth in front of the gas station all day for a few days - now this is West Palm Beach at a BUSY BUSY intersection. So guess what, they finally gave in and got her husbands engine totally renewed or a new one - I forget. But today if someone did that, they could get them or the city could get them. Belive me, it is true.

It is very, very sad that these manufacturers can get away with such poor quality. Our two year old Forest River travel trailer has been falling apart left and right since the day we bought it. We've dealt with a broken window, a stuck slideout, a water leak, a flood from the cheap standard faucet, and now a completely broken slideout. The inside of our slide separated from the slide box because there was only one screw holding up our couch and dinette. After taking it to the dealer, they told us that the manufacturer forgot to build supports in the slide floor and walls and that our RV was a manufacturer defect. All of the problems we have faced and are still facing have been caused by poor craftsmanship. IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THESE RV MANUFACTURERS START CARING ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND START BUILDING QUALITY RVS.

Unfortunately the Jayco of old is not the Jayco of today. In years past Jayco had a reputation as a quality product as did other long time RV manufacturers however most of those product lines are under the umbrella of one or two conglomerates. A long time ago we had a mid 90's Jayco class c motorhome. It was a well put together RV, never had any issues and really enjoyed it. In late 2007 we got the bug for something bigger and our eyes got bigger than our stomach and we bought a new Jayco Supr C. Our first 3-4 months of ownership it was pretty much in the shop with issue after issue. We struggled with that rv and continuing issues for two years and finally gave up, got rid if it. I was really disapointed with the poor build quality after our positive experience with the first Jayco. In the intervening years we had a couple of other used motorhomes that mostly turned out positive. In 2016 we decided to downsize to a towable and looking back, God help me I don't know why but we ended up choosing a Jayco. We bought a new Jayco Whitehawk. First off we had a few minor issues that were taken care of quickly. After a few months some other issues started to surface one of them being a major problem with the floor. It turned into a nightmare dealing with this. There was a fix for it but the dealers were reluctant to do the repair (pretty much refusing) saying that Jayco would only pay them for about half the time it actually took to do it. I spoke to Jayco customer service reps numerous times who told me "They would work with me on it" take it to your dealer. When I told them no dealer wanted to work on it because they didn't get paid enough for the job they still insisted I take to the dealer, they would work with me. NOT. In the end I got tired of the whole mess (probably their goal in the first place) got rid of it and moved on. I've made a vow I will not touch another Jayco product.

Our 1st 2002 Jayco 5th wheel was excellent with no issues what so ever. When we wanted a new model with a different floor plan we never looked at anything but Jayco. We bought a 2018 Eagle HT 5th wheel which from day one turned out to be a lemon. Some of the issues were not caught by the dealer through a supposedly pre delivery inspection. Using the bathroom sink the first time the p-trap leaked all over the undercabinet.. Loose bolts within the slide adjustment, entry steps, lights over dinette. The last straw was a possible frame issue near the gooseneck. I fixed many small items myself because our dealer was 4-5 hours away. Had a local RV tech check for frame flex and he found that the screws holding the floor to the sidewalls in the gooseneck were too short and some missed there mark which led to the side wall separating from the floor. Paid $2000 for this repair as Jayco said the warranty period was up. Traded it shortly after that and bought a TT from a different brand. So far so good with our new TT.

I think the RV industry has been allowed to do shabby work for way too long. Several things need to be implemented in order to make them responsible; legislation that would create a system of check steps to minimize the number of defective units from ever leaving the grounds of the manufacturer’s. Penalties for defective units and required timeframes to get them corrected. Then if unable to meet those requirements the manufacturer would be required to accept a return of the defective RV and provide the exact same model (including any purchased add one) delivered to the nearest dealer for delivery to the customer at no cost. 17:40

Yeah, I'm not surprised. Hoping the RV industry turns around soon. Thanks for watching.

My "RV Black List" is basically I not going to buy one. The RV industry is killing itself. Same thing happened to the bass boat industry. Used to be lot of manufacturers and competition. Now just a few big one's own everything. Even if the nameplate is different, the conglomerate behind it is still the same.

@@kmbbmj5857 Just a few megacorporations make lawnmowers and landscaping equipment. Also power tools and appliances. The bigger the corporation, the further their leadership is from the customer. The quality in everything is dropping because the few mega-corporations control the whole industry and all that matters to them is that they make profits. Their great size gives them leverage with politicians. They won't even notice the loss of one or one thousand customers because they will be replaced by disgruntled customers leaving their competition so it all balances out for them. Welcome to unrestrained unregulated capitalism and the end effect that brings. BTW I'm a businessman and therefore a capitalist; I just see things clearly.

We bought a brand new Fleetwood travel trailer in 2000. That thing was great. Very few issues for 20 years. Then we sold it and bought a new Jayco Alante motorhome in 2020. Wow! I have never seen such poorly manufactured garbage in my life. We had more problems in the first year than we ever have with our Fleetwood, including failure to start (which required a $900 tow to the dealership), trim, literally falling off while driving down the road, electrical outlets that were never hooked up, that annoying whistling sound from a large side window that had to be replaced, etc., etc. So sorry to hear your experience was much worse.

Here’s an out of the box solution. Manufacturers should give you an option of paying 1-2% extra for your RV, in return if the RV stays in the shop for over 30 days total for all collective issue then the manufacturer need to start reimbursing you for lost time and/or give you an equivalent rental till your’s is fixed. Additionally if the repair s take longer than 6 months from the time the issue was first identified the customer should have the option of returning the RV to the dealer for a refund. If a manufacturer can’t stand behind collecting a couple of 2% extra than you know their product is a piece of s**t

Im an absolute advocate for contract clauses between dealer/owner and /or manufacturer/owner in the warrantee that states financial consequences for these types of issues. Personally i would write in such a clause in the sakes contract. The deslership would either accept the terms or not. Ifvthey do not I walk. Nothing will change in the RV industry if buyers keep buying this poir workmanship and poir service. There must be a carrot and stick to the transaction and buyers ultimately have the power. Can you imagine if a campain is established across the bation to not buy any RVs in Marchm. All it would take is one month in one years time to make the point. Media would run with the story, legislators would start payong attention as would ondustry maufacturers and dealers this pain and suffering is in part self inflicted.

People will always spend through the nose for something newer! My advice is to look for something 10 years older. You can always get a great rig for a good price at that age, You'll end up saving yourselves tens of thousands of dollars and the rig that you buy have already gone through the problems that you're facing now and everything is been fixed and updated.

Should have bought an EKKO. Sure, some of the EKKO's have had problems (especially when they were new), but they DO get fixed and the EKKO community stands by each other. That being said, the horse is out of the barn so I sympathize with these owners.. it's too late now. The RV industry can be surprisingly bad, and I can't think of any other industry that sells $100K+ vehicles only to crap all over their customers after they've bought. There needs to be govt. oversight on these RV companies.

I retired three years ago, it was always my plan to purchase an RV and camp around the country, after reading so many websites including this one from Liz I decided to not buy an RV. There was so many negative things being reported in the RV community that I was scared away from it. I ended up purchasing a Toyota 4Runner and outfitted it to an overland build and so far I am having a blast getting way off road and camping. Its very sparse compared to an traditional RV but for now it fits my needs. I may upgrade to an RV if things seem to change in the quality department in the future. Thanks Liz for informing us on the RV quality issues.

I owned a travel trailer when my children were young. It was a solid, well-built unit with no problems. We used it a lot. Now retired, I will be passing on any new trailer or RV. Are you dealers and manufacturers listening? I'd rather spend my hard earned cash on a cabin or cottage rental.

It's really important to accurately document EVERYTHING like these folks have. It should be standard practice in these investigative videos to mention the names of the dealers and or company rep names so we all be aware of where the traps are in this industry. Nothing sanitizes like a little sunshine on a problem. Just for reference, I purchased a Jayco Eagle in 2001, same problems and crapmanship in those days too, not much has changed.

Agreed, an inspection is top priority for ANY RV. Jayco is shooting themselves by not repairing this RV. Their "Customer Service" reminds me of Keystone RV. I've researched Entegra as we thought of buying one also but found too that between Ford and Jayco there is a lot of finger-pointing and no one takes responsibility.

You all may want to get the bank involved as they are part owner of this disaster. Banks have good lawyers, and like to protect their investments.

Thanks for posting your honest experiences with RV ownership. Approaching retirement age myself and toyed around with the idea of buying one. Guess I'll have to come up with something else. Costco has some wonderful all inclusive Cancun deals. Fun place, no hassle and nothing but a good time.

What should be done? The dealer/factory needs to provide a full refund of their purchase and compensation for their time and inconvenience.

Two words for happy travel memories: Hilton Properties. In 2022 I drove a great circle rout from S.F. to Miami to D.C. to N.Y.C. to Chicago, to S.L.C. to Boise to S.F. Hilton all the way. Had a blast! NO PROBLEMS. It was NOT expensive, either. Think about it. No pulling out my hair, either.
