There is a significant level of intimidation. #3 The information you are publishing on RU-vid has the potential of seriously harming the company. #4 Truth/accuracy is the ultimate defense. #5 You mention that you have hired an attorney. I’m in my 50s, but I remember going camping with grandpa, he taught me how to camp in comfort without all these luxuries We’d rent cabins or use his brother in law’s Gulf Stream and he’d tow it with his Ford Fairlane. If anything broke down he didn’t complain, he had his tools and little know-how, he could fix enough to get to a mechanic and given it was a Y-block 8 cylinder, and pretty standard parts any mechanic could replace any part in a few hours. And we’d be back up at the lake to catch enough fish for dinner!! Wow,,,,things have changed.

I was an RV service tech 45 years ago. We serviced Nomad RV's, Palamino pop-ups and truck campers. All of our techs would go through the RV once it was sold and checked everything out: lights, hot water and cold water (leaks), propane, 12 VDC service, gray & fresh water holding tanks, pumps, refrigerators, everything. We went through the new & used trailers with a fine tooth comb and fixed any issues. One thing that I notice several years after that was the quality coming out of the manufacturers was going downhill, and fast. I had to take a Latham 5th wheel to Pennsylvania for warranty repairs and while the repairs were being made, they gave me a tour of the manufacturing plant, where they assembled these trailers and 5th wheel trailers. One thing I notice was at the end of the assembly line, where the quality control inspections were being done, was that there was hardly any lighting on inside the unit and there were 3-4 inspectors inside all huddled together. I couldn't believe it!! They just don't make 'em like they used to anymore!!!

I'm thinking the company owners don't care. They've probably already recovered their factory acquisition costs and made a profit by building and selling a bunch of crappy RVs. If their reputation and sales tank, they simply sell the building and equipment for salvage and walk away with fat wallets. I've seen a similar business model with some metal fabricators. Unscrupulous and unethical, but effective nonetheless.

As a RV tech myself I have learned that 2020 to mid 2022 were very bad years for manufacturing of RVs. I also have learned that there are many techs that have no clue what they are doing when it comes to doing a repair correctly and to compound all of it there are many dealerships thats will get your money for the RV and then make it very hard to get an appointment especially on warranty work. So many things needed to be repaired and replaced. We figured out that the people who previously owned it ran it into the ground driving it through the desert. They knew it was going to be reprocessed so just ran it into the ground. We finally sold it after fixing everything and went with a new Forest River Berkshire diesal which we purchased in Alvarado Tx. Forest River was phenomenal with anything we needed help with in and out of warranty. We never took the RV to where we purchased it. We took it to FR approved repair facilities near to us in CA. The “WHY” is a simple answer. Speed, a push for urgency and profit. We toured one RV shop, we went through the build process. They were PROUD that their teams could build the cabinets for everything, a bath, kitchen, LR and Bedroom in under 20 minutes, the single installer could install the cabinets in under 10 minutes. We are talking a single worker picking the cabinets up, putting them up holding it with one hand using nail guns with the other. The entire trim was done next in about 5 minutes, precut strips, guy moving so fast, tack gun popping away, no pause to ensure trim was straight, etc. Every time I tour and RV and see lose or crooked cabinets, wallpaper or backsplash problems, etc., I think of that tour. I get the need for profit, but when you’re paying $50k-$100k for an RV, you don’t expect the company to be proud of their being able to build the entire thing in hours.

How is liz supposed to know the quality of the components and manufacturing? For one she is not qualified to come to the conclusion that the components are weak, and the process is sub par. And two she didn't even inspect the components and/or manufacturing processes. She's just automatically picking sides. Pathetic

How is the NHTSA not investigating this industry for allowing these dangerous vehicles to be used on public roads. This is really something that every state AG needs to be investigating and probably need to be brought up to Congress for how much the industry has been scamming their customers.

I'm all for getting a pre-purchase inspection however, how many of these defects (brakes / axles) would not have been visible by an inspector? This speaks to the benefit of buying a used unit where some of these issues begin to rear their ugly heads! Thank you for your perseverance in helping folks get the word out and in rare cases, getting the MFG to fix their shoddy products.

Yep. They’ve been removed from any kind of purchase consideration. Period. Enjoying the $5,000 worth of negative publicity and reviews that you purchased, Riverside RV? You’ve already lost more money than it would have cost you to just treat this couple with kindness, dignity and respect. You will lose more money than that in lost sales if I have anything to say about it.

Recently bought a Riverside RV 245RB. 2024 model, built in May '23. I'm in California, and bought it from a dealer in Ohio, near the manufacturer's plant. By the time it got to our house, the roof membrane had failed, and was a big balloon on top of the trailer. A light fixture was broken, and a window blind was shredded. Everything else seems to work fine. After engaging the Ohio dealer, who knows the manufacturer personally, and a few phone calls and emails, I was able to get the roof membrane fully replaced under warranty at a dealer in the central valley. Ultimately, in my case the General Manager at Riverside RV was responsive and the warranty work was done quickly. Bobby the GM was responsive, but I would counsel working directly with him, as the Warranty Manager's voicemail box is full and she cannot be reached that way. We are making our maiden camping voyage in a couple of days, and are happy that the issues were resolved. On the one hand, Riverside RV's customer service is not where it needs to be, but on the other hand they did honor the warranty in my case, and (except for issues reaching the Warranty Manager) the work was approved and done timely.

So Riverside is blaming the dealer and the customer for not doing their due diligence instead of themselves for not doing their own PDI. Make it make sense! Also they used cheap leaf springs probably from China but that’s the customer’s fault?? $5,000 is the LEAST they could do. I’d offload that piece of 💩pronto. Or better than that, drive it to the dealership with a big lemon banner on it and park it for several weeks.

Most RV dealers and manufacturers have been doing this for ever and they really know how to work around it and not pay after the rv is gone. The worst part of this is that after you leave is when the problems begin and we are forced to make the repairs to get to our next destination and that voids whatever is covered. SADLY.

Liz, thank you so much for the work you have done here revealing this industry! I am a disabled widow and I just can't afford to take this kind of risk, although, I'd like to buy something I can depend on to live and travel in. Kust a thought, but could you by any chance, make a web page that lists the different RV brands as well as the issues you have reported on in your videos, (adding to it as you go)? Seems we can't trust the traditional review system anymore...but I feel I can trust what you have looked into and found. And it would be a great resource for anyone looking to buy...before they buy! I'd be interested in an RV, if I could find an honest company, but I will not support this type of corruption, and many people would benefit from seeing a shame list. Thanks again, I hate to hear how these people are being treated...but I love that you are helping us navigate and avoid the companies that do not care about their product, reputation, or their customers.

A good piece of advice, is buy something made before 2018. Yes, you'll have to do some upgrades, but hopefully itll be made better. Unless its anything associated with Thor, or in this case, Riverside. If you're ok with drivables, class A's tend to be nicer and better built. And ALWAYS get an independant inspection before buying! We're retired and very happy with our Tiffin Allegro built in 2016. To add, watch out though, because after 2018 Thor bought out Tiffin. Do your research! Its worth the time.

Our favorite server at our local restaurant asked me last night about recommendations for used RVs. They're looking at a Class C (because they have a Great Dane and a Mastiff!). The first words out of my mouth were "don't buy anything that was made during lockdown". The trailer in this video was purchased in 2022 and these manufacturers were trying to meet the increased demand by cranking out shoddy units hand over fist, sometimes using substandard parts because the supply chain was affected by lockdown. I also texted her today with a bunch of recommendations and first and foremost was no matter whether she bought new or used to make sure she got an inspection. They seem to be mandatory these days. And I'm going to send her a link to this video just to hammer that home.

Some of the defects are so obvious it makes us wonder about the 20 or so others we don’t see. We leave with both our sanity and money but it’s a damn shame to be pushed away from something you love to do because of what industry has become. Your 40 plus years of research and experience as an RV owner and user has yielded knowledge that is quite valuable to prospective new buyers especially since you are current and up to date with so much of what has happened to quality construction, follow through and reliability. People trust you and that’s hard to come by. How about a new video with the Top 20 Tips when looking for a new or used RV. If they insist on new, they shouldn't buy anything without enough knowledge to watch for these signs. I hope this couple hires a lawyer or at least file the safety issyes wirh NHTSA or the Canadian equivalent. This is fast becoming a major problem in the industry that should have some oversight like the aito industry. Trailer RVs are generally lower quality than class A. Simple solution is to look for a low mileage used class A. The build quality in Class A RVs is leaps and bounds above and beyond any trailer of any confiuration. I'm in a low mile gas class A for 7 years. Have done a few repairs but nothing major after 7 years on the road. And like i said real quality build. Moen bathroon. Porcelain toilet. Queen memory foam mattress. Corean simulated marble couter tops. Maple cabinets. Leather recliner. Dual 18,000 btu central air. 5500 watt generator. Other than wear and tear and maintenance its running strong. Everything works. I have maybe $25k in it.

We have had nothing but problem after problem. I have written letters to the dealer, sent countless emails, and talked to the manufacturer. I have threatened an attorney, but have been told there is no lemon law on RVs! (Guess I need to write to Pete Buttajed. (sp?)) I’m tired of writing letters. We have camped for 50 years (just celebrated our golden) and had only 4 units prior to this one. I am glad you can afford the best of everything Sir, but most of us out here can’t. The rest can afford attorneys to handle it with a letter. Happy camping . 🏕️
