as far as rats and mice if you put steel wool around pipes you won't have them also moth balls under cabinets & in storage compartments, we have been full timing since 1991 had mice once and found steel wool & moth balls, you have to be careful with moth balls around pets.

Actually water is 8.34 lbs/gal. so that just increased your weight by over 100lbs compared to water weighing 7lbs. New Horizons makes between 50 -60 units a year. Mine was built like a tank. They build like a brick and sticks house.

If I’m not mistaken this is same repair people that I saw pass our rv inTroy. Called them because I thought were in the rv park. They had already headed home. Came back to check out our problem with powerjack. We had replaced fuse still didn’t work. They used multimeter to check. Only problem was it wasn’t screwed in tight. Possibly little corrosion. Refused payment. Great guys and God always takes care of us.

Red loctite is your friend. If you have a screw that you do not want to vibrate out, clean it and apply red loctite. Apply liberally. Water is 8.3 lb/gal. Not 7. 150 gallon is 1245lb. There is a device you can purchase for the propane line called a GasStop that will shut off gas if there is a leak. Unless it is a very new practice, there is NO safety device installed on RV propane systems on the majority of RV’s. That is definitely not something I would be telling people. You should ask that technician to show you the device on your RV or demonstrate how that device works. The standard pressure regulator will regulate pressure, not flow. If you want to test that theory, turn off both tanks, remove a main gas line underneath the rv or inside the tank storage area. Turn the gas back on. You will have a tremendous amount of flow from that line. Gas off for travel.

In my opinion, folks who RV need to know how to fix their own issues. Relying on someone else to do this can become cost prohibitive and possibly leave you stranded out on the road for a considerable amount of time.
@yankeesusa1
@yankeesusa1 2 года назад
It's very true, you need to basic maintenance things. And you can have several things like extra parts like fuses and tools of a mechanic to tighten this up... But when it comes to things like ac compressor and control board, most people can't order that and have it ready to go, let alone know electrical voltage instructions that can get them seriously injured.

I have a 1996 Tiffin Allegro Bus class A motor Home and i have not had any major problems with it. still has both original air conditioners, hot water heater ,furnace and never had a leak in the roof. it is always stored inside when not in use. Tiffin builds them to last well at least the older ones don't know about the newer ones as i love the old one i have still in great shape. great video keep em coming ..

Leaks have been our biggest problem with our 27 year old RV. 2 window leaks that ruined the floor. 1 tip out leak that ruined the floor. Hubby is a construction worker and handy man and fixed the floor 3 times. The last time we fixed it up we almost scrapped the RV it was in such bad shape. We got fixing one thing then the next, we put about $10,000.00 into and didn't know if it would be worth it but now we are living in it again. We did some out of town work and it sat for a little while. That is when it got in really bad shape. We have put on a new roof, 2 new AC roof units, new refrigerator, fixed furnace a couple of times, 1 sewer break, 1 plumping break. For 27 years that's not too bad. You'd have maintenance in a house too.

I purcased a 5 year warranty when we got our motorhome because as you said, it gives you a lot of peace of mind. However, I had some problems and because I had a warrenty on my unit, I couldn’t get a mobile mechanic to come out to work on my unit. I had to call the tech @ Fleetwood and he told me where to look and what to look for. He also sent me wiring diagrams for my unit. I now do as much of my own work because my confidence is long gone. Mobile techs don’t want to hear the words, “I have a warrenty”.
@EnjoyTheJourneyLife
@EnjoyTheJourneyLife 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing! I know there is a big difference between extended warranty companies. We know mobile RV techs want to be paid quickly and easily, that's why the approval process is verbal over the phone and Wholesale Warranties pays the tech with a corporate credit card on the spot!🎉 enjoythejourney.life/warranty

So nice to see people willing to help and extend a hand to others in need! God bless you guys! My husband owns an auto repair shop and mice chewing wires is a big problem for car owners, as well. He said some of the coating on wires are made from soy and that makes them attractive for the mice to chew and eat!! Can we get them to change how they cost the wires? Peppermint is supposed to be a good deterrent.
@postersm7141

You are absolutely correct. The wires are made out of soy based insulation because it’s better for the environment however it’s not better for my pocketbook when the car gets totaled out lol yes this is a big problem and a known issue!!

Our slide topper rail let loose about 3 month after we bought our 5th wheel. I called the dealer and told them I wasn't going pack it up and travel an hour to leave it for 3 weeks if all they were going to do was put bigger screws in it. At least the tech was honest and said that is exactly the repair the manufacturer would authorize. So I did my own research and put in the rivets that these gentlemen are talking about. In addition I took out a few key screws in all the awnings and slide toppers and replaced them with rivets. No problems since!

😳 It's just safe practice to turn off your propane. Those "safety valves" in propane systems (especially in RVs) can fail. Moreover, it's illegal in a lot of places to drive with your propane on, namingly in tunnels.
@truckingkaiseradventures2366
@truckingkaiseradventures2366 2 года назад
They were also saying the failure is typically with the refrigerator and that is probably it however when you are running them with propane as you go down the highway the issue is the same. We never travel with the propane on.

I try to limit what I need for living to offset the weight of a full water tank. The weight limit on all rvs includes the "total cargo weight" so a full tank adds to what the rv is mfgd to carry. I constantly purge stuff I do not need to help my rv stay together! I too have had a lot of repairs during my 3 yrs on the road.

Reference the LP being on/off. Check state law because some states have restrictions on running with it on. Going through tunnels is one. If the line is cut and you get a spray of LP before the line shuts it off that may be enough to ignite a fire if there is a heat source near.

Warms my heart listening to this dude. That's how I feel having gotten my doctorate in physical therapy. Last night I was at a Walmart at closing and this lady was laying on the ground trying to adjust her shoes. I got down and tried to help but they were just too big, so I pulled off my socks and added them to hers. Then she said her knees were hurting after a fall a few weeks back, and as a PT I was able to check her out and tell her what she needed to do. I was able to help her, and it means so much to me that I had the opportunity to contribute and help. I feel a little ashamed even sharing it because it feels like it cheapens it somehow, so thanks for providing a forum for sharing that doesn't feel as much like I'm attention-seeking as if I told my family or friends. 😅

Glad you found good, honest rv repair. For pests you might try Pest Block packs....replace ever 90 days. Use inside and all outside cabinets. Fresh Cab csn be used too. I had creature aboard and I cleaned where I could get to and put in the Pest Block and a couple of Fresh Cab. Rodents will follow the urine smell left by previous rodents so clean as best you can. The trick is to keep areas clean and keep the packets fresh.

"Buy aesthetics"--whatever looks good to you being all that the manufacturers have left to differentiate their junk--is a really sad assessment and far too true, but it _is_ possible to step out of Indiana nominal and find a few companies elsewhere that do, actually, apply at least some engineering to their products other than just federally-required roadworthiness--with an expected lifespan of decades. They are just exceptionally rare outside of the $250,000+ fifth-wheel and $1.2 million+ motorhome class. Even the smallest towables from Wee Roll, in Florida, are a good example of an extraordinary engineering exception--even their metallurgy is done correctly, which is nearly unheard of in the RV world apart from a certified commercial coach builder like Prevost (but Wee Roll units are not suitable for winter use outside the South without being customized by another company for that purpose--the factory options don't cut it--sort of like Airstream or Oliver). PS. Water is 8.3 lbs. per gallon, not 7, so there is even more behind what he concluded than what he said. I have a boondocking-designed rig with large tanks. If all of them are full, the coach weighs approx. 1,450 lbs. more than if they are empty and all of that weight is being carried by some pretty thin plastic and hanger parts.

Okay so stick with me i know its long just read lol. That man ain't tellin no lie. I have a 2020 Keystone camper. Last summer I was driving down a highway. Only truck on the road. Middle of nowhere. Wife and i heard a loud bang. Scared the shit out of us. No idea what it was I stopped found nothing on the road didn't see anything wrong did quick glance on the camper and mainly the truck because from the driver seat it sounded like something hit the side of my new 21 ram power wagon. I was shaking nervous. Not a single scratch or dent nowhere so finished driving home parked informt of our house. Took first load of stuff inside walked back out to the camper and noticed something hanging off the back passenger side of my camper. Got down and looked......some how I had hit something and completely broke off my motor to the rear stabilizer. I thought man what the hell did I hit. Had to of been some sort of animal that lived or a big enough pothole to drop the back of the camper down and make it hit the road. It was Ozark mountaim backwoods road. Don't always trust Google navigation. Found that out. Anyways to wrap this up, I called camping world they quoted me 750 dollars. I said that's absurd. Called lippert. The lady quoted me 400 I said nah there's surely a cheaper way and she cleared her throat and said well, you can go to Amazon type in lippert and then the model number I'm about to give you and we sell it on there for 98 dollars. I said sign me the heck up ordering it now. Fast forward to last Saturday had to go in to Gander to see about getting a part ordered. Just little plastic piece door handle thing can't be no more than 10 bucks. Guy recognized me asked me if I ever got the motor replaced I said yes I did it myself he pushed his chair back took his glasses off and looked at me. Said how did you change it yourself. I explained all that above and said I followed the instructions lippert gave me and I did your 750 dollar quite for 98 dollars 4 bolts and 45 minutes if my own time. He got pissed and told me it blows his mind that companies allow customers rv owners to purchase their products from them to replace by themselves I said that's any business and he tried to stare a hole in my face and said it shoots us in the foot. I said I get that. But I'd be a fool to pick 750 over 98. I then asked can you order me the part snd he said nope can't order you parts you might be able to find it online I said okay ik where this is going he said have a good day I say ok walked out. Way to go Camping World/Gander. Awesome service. Lippert is an amazing company and have nothing but huge respect for them. If you have any question they'll help or point in right direction.

Your tech is wring about the propane shutting off. Every LP cylinder has an Excessive Flow Valve as part of the service valve on the tank. I The EFV will snap shut if it senses an unrestricted line. This is also why when you open an LP cylinder you should open the service valve slowly because the LP vapor must dosplace the air in the lines. I am an experienced professional in the LP industry.

Im a rv mobile repairman in Kalispell, mt. Im all about helping folks but im in business to make money. RV's are expensive toys with no universal build standards. 80% of all problems are electrical. Very little attention is paid during manufacturing to sharp edges and floppy wires. I give priority to people who live in their RV. Weekend warriors take on the responsibility knowing they are using an unreliable toy that will require maintenance and repair on a regular basis. Its the cost for luxury camping.

Man why doesnt this guy have the proper tools? No stud finder, no laser temp gun. He touches the wires to test temp? Its called Harbor Freight? And no appliance slider reallyade me cringe. No need to have propane on with dc fridges. I personally recommend folks turn it off when travelling. I dont trust the manufacturer installers.

These new campers are absolutely trash. The builders of these beautiful pieces of trash should be under law suits the quality had went down hill so drastically in recent years, and don't even ask about those campers made since covid. These campers have been nothing but scary, the workmanship, or lack of, has went this far down in such a short time it is truly and i mean truly amazes me that people are buying these things up Almost like their candy and we have a sweet tooth. We have an 04 that all the original items that were in the camper/ toy hauler still function properly and so far pretty much flawlessly (where a piece of wood for me to knock on). I see so many beautiful newer campers with problems they shouldn't be having. Why would someone spend so much to have more issues than if their camper was maybe 12+ years or older. And as said earlier, the seems those in the last few years are always seem to be involved when there's a tech truck in the camp ground. How do people know when all they see are these beautiful mobile homes with all these beauties and comforts as of your in your land home. Not knowing that this is just a facade, that truly what lies underneath is a cheaply thrown together by untrained mostly laborers from sub par materials. And this is the gospel truth on almost every camper made by almost any name no matter how prestigious their name may be. PEOPLE BEWARE Ask questions, truly look when you go, not only at all the amenities and the eye candy they use to draw attention away. All Los of questions and truly listen to what your being told, remember these are salesman. Look at the dealer feedback and the units you are interested in to see if there have been issues with others that have bought this same model. And here really to me is something I've learned, NEW and more expensive or best looking doesn't mean better and lately even close

You might want to do something about the loose, dangling wiring. Wiring should be secured so that the weight of the wires don’t pull connections loose.

I noticed that. In my Rockwood they are held together by zip tie from factory.

The sheathing on the wires and PEX are made with grains and rice since 2000 something as mandated by law- and the rodents love it. I’ll let you imagine why that might be….

Rats and mice hate mint. You can buy at most Home Repair store. Comes in its own spray bottle. Or plug in a electronic rodent. Also, store wheat or corn snacks in Tupperware type container.

Ok so first of all I have a vintage Motorhome so knowing there's folks to call when I'm stumped is great. Those pesky rodents are my #1 pet peeve! I recently went to a Toyota motorhome gathering and several had solar lights either motion activated or just on under ther rigs and hoods I finally asked and they explained that those nasty little critters do not like lighted ares and they keep them out with great success, so now that is what I am doing, so far so good!!

All RV's will need repair (just like your house), therefore you should learn how to service it. RU-vid has hundreds of how to videos on fixing your RV. Most of what the techs told us you can do on your own or should already know.
