Another great video.....but if I take 7 hours to load a lowboy it wouldn't be worth it. My buddy loaded his removing all things in 2-1/2 hours. Our RU-vid topics are near spot on.....tomorrow I post mine that discusses my pros & cons of choosing semi truck company driver or hot shot or RV transport. I also breakdown the 4 RV divisions with potential income. We are feeding the flame....lol.

I have a hard time believing it would take that long, but wanted to share what he had heard. I feel it could just be a negative outlook on the loading process from that individual or a poor set-up like me and backhauls!!! The more info out there the better! 💪 look forward to watching yours tomorrow! Hopefully you’ve had a few great trips under your belt so far with no major hiccups! Stay safe out there!

Great intro. I have learned enough because of your experience sharing to decide this isn’t for me at this time. I was thinking of truck upgrading to a 1 ton single and running twice a month. However traveling for work as it is, the kids headed off to college soon and missing more time isn’t a fair trade for me. I can’t thank you enough for your flat out honesty. Greatly appreciated. Seeing you grow in the industry over the last few months I have no doubt of your continued success. Stay safe.

Hey James! Glad you stopped by and commented! The only thing I’d throw out there of things to consider are if you’re not currently ELD and like the “flexibility” of manually entering or starting, etc. when you want- you’ll loose that freedom! And then there’s more time out of the truck to load and unload which eats into your driving time.
@frankwells396
@frankwells396 2 года назад
Loading is on duty not driving. Doesn’t affect drive time.

Haul and tow looks like a good compromise. No 50 foot trailer attached all the time but still can back haul a car and make some extra scratch. It may be helpful if you add revenue per hour and mile since most (me -lol) don’t know how many hours required for these earnings. I also think you should include some maintenance, asset, and asset depreciation even though it could vary. I think it’s needed to compare the diff categories. Congrats on the new baby by the way.
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Great suggestion on the time side of it because obviously the more units you deal with the more time it takes. If you’re forced to run “by the books” a 1,500 mile outbound trip will take you two and a half days then you’re headed back to grab another unit or home! Maintenance, etc. would be deducted from that take home number. So after fuel, I’ll transfer money over to my personal account and then I take 15% of the gross and transfer it to a savings account for a maintenance fund! Gettin into depreciation of assets, etc. is more of a tax/end of the year talk in my eyes since it’s not affecting cash flow but your taxable income. Thank you! She’s finally getting to the point where she’s making sounds and not so zombie like, if you know what I mean! Lol
@GrantTravels23
@GrantTravels23 3 года назад
Easiest math is a $1 a mile x how many miles. So say 1500 miles is $1500. It varies but between .80 and 1.20 for drive away

Hey Pablo! For sure! I drive 7 hours from Iowa. The key is to try and be picky with routes that take you back towards home but even if not, with a pickup truck- you're going to get around 20mpg unloaded so it's not a big deal to drive home unloaded or to the IN area to pick up your load!

Your take home numbers are on the high numbers and having perfect week. The numbers are getting lower and shorter. But if you guys are pulling them numbers my hat is off to you.
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Hey Tim! I’d have to disagree on that. For a 1,500 mile trip with current rates and over pricing fuel expenses, that’s the money you’d have available to pay whatever you need to pay and save whatever for maintenance if you do that. On the multi haul ones, if someone isn’t treating heir backhauls like an equal part to their trip then those numbers are high. I currently haven’t gotten any backhauls on my last few trips due to various reasons and still put over 2k in my pocket off trips that are either 1,000 or 1,100 miles each time. I set about $400-500 of that in my maintenance account and end up with about $1,600/week- again that’s with no backhauls for my shorter trips.

My wife and I have been looking into hot shot, I was a rv tech so came across this. I’m thinking a haul and tow, what are the chances she could also do the drive away to the same or near location as my load. Also would she be able to tow a additional camper behind a Class A since there’s not a tow vehicle?
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Hey Steven! That’s a great idea!!! I’ve ran across a few couples that either both do tow away and the alternate which truck gets towed back or one does haul and tow and the other tow away then they just load the truck onto the HT rig! I don’t see why that wouldn’t work! You’d have to ask the company on that last question- I have no clue! But she wouldn’t need a vehicle if you’re both on the same route! She’s just get in with you!

@thomasweingart6952
@thomasweingart6952 3 года назад
Now that you’ve been doing haul n tow, would you do that or pull a trailer? Looking at it from the outside I think what you’re doing is better than hauling a trailer around. I do realize that could make more money but...
@WeekendTruckin
@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
Hey Thomas! I'm not sure which way I'd prefer, but I'm not opposed to getting into the lowboy side of things to see what it's like...obviously I'd have to go get my CDL before that could happen. I have seen some H&T setups that can fit 3 cars on it due to it having a lift of two on it, so that'd probably put you at the lower level of the amount of revenue a guy could bring in with a trailer but still having just one 30-40' rig.

@WeekendTruckin 3 года назад
I’m no truck buff, but the guy at our orientation mentioned if he were to redo his experience he’d get a 2500, out a helper spring or airbags on the back and then essentially have the support a 3500 has but less weight so he can haul more. I’d just start reaching out to companies to get started! Don’t trade your truck in until you get the green light from a company!

Sean, I heard you mention the uptick in unladen insurance for the different transport methods, and it didn't seem unreasonable, especially with back hauling vehicles. I recently asked about car hauler insurance as an owner operator and was told it would be over $1200 a month, too much. I take it Indiana Transport is assuming the risk on back hauls too--is that why it's a lower insurance rate?
