Is an RV the same as a house? No. But we love our home on wheels. After 10 weeks away from it, we share some of the differences between living in an RV full-time as a family and living in a house.

What I love about being in our rv (and we are not full time, yet!) Is the ease of cleaning vs a house, less stuff (that you don't need) to distract you and waking up in different places with mostly beautiful views out of your windows!!!

We have been fulltiming since 2017. We have not missed living in a house for one minute. I love our rv and never want to go back to a house. There is so much to see and I want to see it all.

If it wasn't for last year's quarantine, we might still be living in our airstream...or maybe we would have built a tiny house. It really felt like home for those 2 years. And it truly amazes me how little you need to live. I'm thankful for the experience and how it's taught me to appreciate the extra things we do have now (like plumbing and seemingly endless hot water), and it broke us out of that consumeristic mindset. I'm more than happy to have tons of "empty" space in our home now. I don't feel the pressure to fill every corner with decor or every closet with clothes. I wish we could have traveled full-time, but all in all, it still was a great experience.

Very well said ! For us we have the best of both worlds. House + RV. We are not ready to give up the house. We like our space. We do a 2 month trip per year plus once a month ~5-10 day trips year round. We replaced the mattress in the RV with the same as the one in our house. That eliminated the getting "use" to the changes. We are planning an extended trip of 3+ months as well. Both have advantages & dis- advantages. Being retired has made a big difference as well. Just like there is no one perfect RV for everyone, the same can be said about RV vs House.

As one of those who lives in a house, but dreams of what it would be like to live in an RV, I thank you for showing us what that can be like. Thank for sharing your wonderful adventures and helpful tips. Hopefully I’ll be able to see for myself someday. But for now, I live vicariously through you and other RVers. I also thank you for calling a house a house, and not “a Sticks & Bricks”. So many RVers do, and yet so many of their viewers do live in a house or apartment (whether we want to or not, lol). Thank you for that respect. 🙏🏻

I think when RVers refer to sticks and bricks that also includes apartments and all homes that are not mobile. 🙂

You mentioned the lawn mower noise. But isn't it great that you are not the one pushing it :) I pick RV over house. I am not a full-timer yet but soon, very soon! We have been holiday & weekenders all our lives. I can't wait for the small space living, less materialistic things, more people to meet, more places to see and the experience is endless. We know there will be challenges but isn't that the best part!

As long as it's not windy, I always sleep better in my RV than my house! MY shower is even better in my RV except for the short hot water, but I have always been a quick showerer. My dad taught me when I was young how to take a military shower, so I'm good.

We have spent the past 6 months in our 38' travel trailer while having our new home built. We are empty nesters and it's just the 2 of us so room and quiet are not a real problem. We will miss the close quarters but what's nice is that now we have a new home base and can go when we want!

We have been full time for 4 years now and there is nothing we miss about living in a large house. Seems that all our free time was spent cleaning and maintaining. Our free time now ( which is most all of our time) is spent adventuring or just relaxing. Nathan is right that if you full time you must be able to make repairs yourself. That skill is very valuable. We remodeled our Class C to better suit our needs and style. Brought in some happy color and now we love it better than any of our previous beautiful houses. It's exciting to plan our routes and the benefits of travel out weigh the routine of a life in a house for us. We constantly stay in touch with family and friends and swing back to the Southeast to see them each spring and fall. Life is good on the road. Great video LJMJ. You were our inspiration 5 years ago and still are!

You make so many great points about full time RV life! Keeping it real. One thing I think about is what your children are learning on so many levels! You are giving them the gift of learning about their world in a way they could never get in a classroom! Also, the memories you are creating with them every day are ones that will last a lifetime. It's not all sunshine as you say, but what in life is? I just love watching your videos and going along for the ride! Keep doing you, and thank you for sharing!

I miss the tub, the shower, the oven and having a pantry and enough space for dishes. I miss having space to pull everything out of the rv to organize and clean and work on the rig. I sold the house so now I feel I'm at a loss and will never be able to do these things so I am stressed but in a house I was miserable. I'd much rather be on the road than confined to a larger space, but I must figure out how to make this rv work for me.

Awesome and realistic video, thanks for sharing. I have lived in houses since ever, but in December 2019 we sold our sticks and bricks and bought a 5th wheel and a truck.... now we have no debts, realized that we don't need that much to live. We take our home everywhere. Yes, there are things that need attention but not having a "home association" wins any battle... we have not missed at all the sticks and bricks, actually we don't even mention it. Bought a nice piece of land in upper florida to also prep for RV life and we come and go, no attachments to anything material. Our only attachments are to family and friends, whom also enjoy coming to visit and stay w us in new places. There is something so liberating about been able to pick up and leave and come back whenever you want. And we r not retired, we work full time. I know this is very personal, but for us RV life is it.

So I'm watching this video as we are out camping. I enjoy being in the RV (Class A) and traveling...I just commented that it's really nice that you can only have the stuff that fits in the RV and everything has its place. So easy to clean, over a house. But I still like our house and my hobbies (that wouldn't work in an RV). SO...Right now we have the best of both worlds! Keep up the good work...I've enjoyed your videos from the beginning 😁❤👍

I want to thank Nathan for reminding me to enjoy my shower. While traveling in our RV this summer we decided we wanted to sell our home. He got back to Las Vegas on July 23rd, did some projects to get it ready to sell, decluttered some and put it up for sale on August 6th. The offers were insane, we accept les one on the 8th and we’re closing escrow on August 23rd! 12 more endless showers coming my way!

Great content guys! For the past 5 years (and counting) the wife and i along with our 3 four legged companions been on the road fulltime. I have been better of being "jack of all trades" in maintaining and servicing our travel trailer, diesel truck, gasoline vehicle along with all the generators and small equipments we carry on the road. This is by far the best life experience and most challenging life during my 40 years of living. We feel like we are truly living now and more connected to our Creator compare when living on our stick and bricks for 17 years of ownership. Stay humble and kind. Happy trails! Good comparison of the value of RV Home vs SB Home….. We love our RV, and truthfully we wish we could spend more time in it. Life has us grounded for the time being and we are glad we still have our home for that reason. Yes it’s more hassle to maintain both a house and an RV especially when you live in a community where you can’t store your RV on property and you have to pay for storage, or we can’t go further than a days drive and spend a week or two and then have to be back to take care of family. Wish I had it all figured out when I was younger and we had traveled more, now as we get older we are missing our travel years, but family comes first and that is what we have to do. But we are glad that we are fortunate enough to afford our SB house and our RV and travel short periods. Happy travels y’all!

It's good to have y'all back on the mainland. I love to watch your videos from anywhere but HI seems to be so far away. It is so pleasant to hear your Tennessee lingo; y'all say things just like we do here in Owensboro, KY and it makes me feel that we are longtime friends and neighbors just sharing life. Nathan is so cool on his ingenuity, making new things and fixing existing things that go wrong. Marissa is so beautiful with the long flowing hair framing her pretty face, keeping her body in shape and toned to perfection. Hensley and JJ are such cute little ones; if you were close we would love to have them over frequently to give Mom and Dad a break or time to shop and get things done. I know we would have a lot of fun. Thank you for being on line for us to share in your life and for taking us along on your adventures. Glenn

*My biggest issue would be Storms/Tornadoes in an RV, where do you go, when that happens* ? *Here at home, I have a Safe Room for Storms and Tornadoes* *At times like now, we've 50-mph winds heading East towards Indiana, and beyond* . *Betsy Mikesell is the founder of Beddy's, there are 2 different styles of sheets, and like you said, it's a sleeping bag for Adults, any age* . *Highly Recommend*

We have a voronado fam blowing all night to combat any outside noises. We are in a fairly quiet RV Resort since our travel plans are delayed to next year. Yes, RV living and traveling is the trade off for a home for us. Since we are sitting here in our delay we are looking for land. When we go to our storage unit we sometimes drive by our former ranch. If we were traveling our homesickness would not be so bad. Can't wait til we get to travel. Welcome back to the mainland and your RV. I love your way if thinking of talking g about living in house or Rv. I would Rv. I feel it wound be quieter than a house when you have neighbors that are noisy with lawn mowing or sawing or drilling something in their garage. As like when you are in a Rv park it’s usually quiet. At least the ones I’ve been too when I’d camp with family they were quiet. When I see you all li j v in your Rv it makes it seem it is fun and eventful. And lots of fun. It's not just size tho, things like water and electricity are all a little bit different in an RV. Just because you have something that looks like a house, doesn't mean it works like a house. So yeah, space is nice. But there are other logistics that affect your day to day.

Just like a sign I have seen, "Home is where you park it". If you are staying somewhere, and there is tornados forcasted, you can up and leave and go far way. You don't have stay somewhere long term if you don't want to. Your RV looks very nice, and like home.

Welcome back guys and I have to tell you I feel like home is what you make it it's a space where you spend most of your time with your family it's where your the happiest and I know how you feel about the bath tub my family we have a 32ft travel trailor we are seasonal campers I bought 1 of those longblow up blue and white pools and when I want a bath and we are camping or traveling for a month I'll fill it up at night I'll get in it and that's how I have my bath i have put Hot water in it so it really seems like I'm relaxing in a tub I take a tarp and nail it around a tree or something so no one can see so don't think you can't have a bath when you want one and as for the kids it's easier put a baby pool in your shower it works well but the main thing is be happy no matter where you are

Best “sleep sounds” are somehow in Wyoming - windows open, rain storm and a distant train rolling down the track, and one loooong whistle. If said train is rolling through the camp site - that changes things.

You property tax, electric, water, trash costs in a house. Only cost from the list would be electric if you stay long enough. Tip: make a rain catcher that will fill your water tank when it rains. You might need a filter on it.

I can see living the full time RV life could be a (decision fatigue) issue for us. One of my bucket lists is full time RVing for a year and see the USA.

Too much information does cause decision fatigue.

I don't like rigid routines and set schedules. I'm a free spirit, and rarely do anything twice the same way, in the same order, or at the same time of day! ;-) (Good thing I'm retired! LOL) I'd put on my rain gear and dance or take a walk in the rain! ;-) We have to take abbreviated showers and minimize flushes anyway, because of an issue with our septic tank we can't afford to have fixed--so it's basically just a holding tank now... ;-(

Yay for comments again! We full timed for almost 2 years, and we loved it. But for my family it's time to settle for a bit to build a community. The only con I've really experienced is loneliness. We have definitely grown closer as a family but my almost teenage daughter can't wait to have her own room away from her 2 younger brothers 😂 Which is kind of ironic because that was what she was excited most about when we moved into an RV lol. If it was up to me we'd travel forever but doing what is best for my family always comes first. We're excited to join the weekend warriors lol.

I don’t miss living in an apartment or house. I’m single and my children are grown so it’s probably easier than if I had a family. I don’t think I would mind the sounds of others in the RV. I’ve been somewhat of a minimalist most of my life so not having lots of stuff is unnecessary. I have what I use and use what I have. Your children are learning by experience and not always by pictures or print in a book. On that note, what public schools are teaching children is 💩! You have to homeschool your children because you’re not always in one place. I think what y’all are doing is great for your family and I agree, it probably draws you closer.

With an RV less than thirty feet you need both. We have been doing it for five years.

My 1st time tuning in and enjoyed it ( helps that she is Drop Dead gorgeous) My sister loves having it both ways ! My Brother-in-law traded a Boat for their 1st Motorhome and she came home and said what the Eff is our driveway ? But a couple weeks later she went on a float trip with her daughters and grandsons she was sold on it ! My Brother-in-law has been trading up every year, He rehabs them and uses them for a season then sells or uses them trade-in ? I think they are done last trade-in they got a 2008 Winnebago 40 Diesel Pusher with only 5k on the odometer and 10 hrs on the generator but still love coming home to their 120 yr old hse that we have rehabbed twice and play with the boys in the pool ! When school starts they are out of here ! ✌️ From STL ! I liked and subscribed

We pulled into an RV park late (after dark) and didn't realize how close we were to a railroad track. We woke up at 3 am fearful that we had parked on the track! It was so loud and so close.
