No it's because RVD suffered the same eye injury that Shawn did and then knew what Shawn went through with it so he probably felt guilty about taking the piss
He didn't really mean that as an attack. Everyone in the business hated Shawn at that time, and his reputation was pretty bad. So it was normal to attack Shawn for simply being Shawn during that era. It was so normal that anyone who DIDN'T hate Shawn was looked at as weird.
@@Grandmaster_Sub-ZeroActually when RVD worked with Shawn he already returned with the born again gimmick. At that point Shawn was a changed man, but still rubbed a few people the wrong way. Mainly RVD and Hurricane Helms.
@@polly6896nah he definitely meant that Shawn is a bit of an a$$hole but he meant it in a "it was not my place to judge him for it" way when he said that.
RVD did something that social media doesn’t allow people to do. Mature and look back at past action not to condemn but to reflect and be a better person.
Sometimes something is funny until you have a similar experience and understand what it’s like to be in that position. Rvd humbled himself and is now mature enough to see that he was wrong. Good for him, everyone should take notice!
It was a joke. If you don’t think a joke is funny in retrospect just because you went through a similar situation then that means that you are an emotional person and you let emotions guide and control you. If you can’t remove yourself emotionally from a situation and have a laugh about it then you are really just a woman.
@@SpongeBob5000_ bro what it’s always some bum coming in with that negative energy. Ain’t nothing funny about catching a boot to the head and having a lazy eye as a result. Rvd got his head ringed and he realized it ain’t nothing to laugh at. Your not mature enough to understand that something’s you just don’t joke about. If Shawn was in on the joke then it would’ve been fine but, clearly he was mocking him. What’s funny about mocking someone? You definitely change your view on something when you can relate to it, unless your just a terrible person who never wants to grow in life.
@@Treywave4146 Why is it off limits? Because the joke is at the expense of someone? Newsflash sweetheart, all humor and jokes come at the expense of a person or something that happened to them. It’s the nature of humor and banter. The one who is not mature enough is somebody like you who will change their mind about a joke in retrospect just because they went through and got emotional. You are the one guided by emotions here.
@@SpongeBob5000_ I don’t change my mind. I don’t make fun of someone’s personal trauma to begin with. Don’t know about you but, I’m not that type of guy buddy. Anybody who doesn’t care about the way something they said makes someone feel is a piece of 💩 person. There’s nothing wrong with jokes but, it all depends on the topic. For example, making fun of someone’s bad haircut is nowhere near as bad as cracking jokes about somebody who got hurt or a cancer patient that literally can’t control their hair loss. If somebody’s relative lost their life and you had people cracking jokes about it, I bet it wouldn’t be so funny if one of their people passed away. There’s nothing funny about that to begin with anyways. Your the type of person that makes excuses for being a dick instead of realizing, “maybe if I don’t say that then I won’t rub people the wrong way ”. Not everybody likes to joke and play around about sensitive situations so, you should respect that and leave people alone. It’s really simple and I can’t believe some people don’t understand nor care. We live in a world where you need to watch what you say because, some people don’t take stuff lightly. People are losing their lives everyday over a simple joke. So tighten up your act and understand that even if something may be “funny” to you, there’s somebody else that probably had their whole day ruined because you wanna crack jokes.
This is why rvd is the best. He apologized for being mean to someone who's known for being an asshole. No hate to Shawn tho just back in the early days he was an asshole
@@younglove3362 well it's good if Shawn wasn't offended by it. But the thing about morals is that a person doesn't have to be hurt or even know that you are doing something wrong for you to feel bad about it. RVD regretting it, whether or not Shawn is OK with it, shows his higher morals.
@@younglove3362 Shawn was an epic prick in his time. I'm pretty sure if anyone makes fun of him and a condition he has, that EASILY counts towards his Karma debt. Don't believe me? Ask Chris Candito and Big Van Vadar. EXACTLY. RVD shouldn't feel bad in the slightest. HBK maybe one of the Best wrestlers ever but, he's also one of the biggest jerks ever too.
@GameTime-yj6qv Translation, you're crying 😢 and have something against Shawn. And if you were to cry in front of Shawn with your pathetic rant, he'd do what I'm doing at you response, laugh at you 😆.
These old school guys were one of a kind. Almost all the videos I watch from the 90s and early 00s wrestlers are like listening to words of wisdom. Maybe it was just the industry at the time but so many of them seem to have matured into quite well spoken and kind people.
RVD is genuinely a good dude. Introspection is a virtue that is so absent in society as a whole that it’s truly refreshing to see someone able to look back on what they’ve done and instead of conceptualizing or compartmentalizing it into a time & place can look at themselves and say, “You know what? It was wrong of me to do/think/say that” RVD has always been one of my all time favorites from his late 90’s runs in ECW against Sabu and Taz all the way to today in 2023
Two of my 5 favorite wrestlers ever. Very classy to be a man and admit when you are wrong. I remember the first time I ever watched an ECW PayPerView and seeing RVD for the first time…. I’m like…. This guy is the most entertaining wrestler in the world. Tough as nails, innovative, athletic…COOL. Cool unique outfits, cool persona, cool unique move set. Never the same match. I feel bad for those who only know WWE’s version of RVD. If that’s you, go watch RVD vs Jerry Lynn…… absolutely tremendous matches.
Respect the hell out of that mindset... if mike tyson can be humble, compassionate/ understanding and just a great human now and has been for years, then most can
“If you don’t look back at yourself and cringe, then you haven’t matured at all” Rob Van Dam on his own podcast. He really is one of the coolest dudes for holding himself accountable and learning from things. Something a lot of people can’t do.
RVD stepping up to the plate of maturity, well done my guy. he may not be the biggest fan of HBK but this is a big move to correct something he felt was the wrong thing to do.
A lot of respect for RVD here, the make of a man is determined by the standards they set upon themselves. We all goof up sometimes, what's important is that we make the adjustments when necessary
Im glad he deels that way now but also that impression is still funny. Just like how slut shaming women isn't funny now but jericho calling stephanie a greasy nasty animal will always be funny
Sometimes we say things we regret later. RVD admits that and gives a valid reason. He seems to be on good terms with Shawn after all. Sounds like there was no beef between them to begin with.
As an older man now, I can honestly say that the things we make fun of in other people often have a way of happening to us. The Bible says you reap what you sow, and in my own experience, that's absolutely true. You can call it "karma" or whatever you like, but trust me when I say that it's better to hold your tongue than to make fun of or deride others.
RVD is such a nice, honest dude The bit was incredibly funny and I think it’s kinda nice to have something to joke about HBK with. I mean, he’s got it all already. Even he makes jokes about the eye sometimes, like in WWE 2K22’s MyRise where he says “well it’s hard for me to see eye to eye with anyone these days.” It’s not like he was being a completely distasteful asshole like Wayne Farris in his shoot interviews.
RVD thoughtful as f and takes a big man to reflect and say sorry. I personally don't think it was a big deal unless he did it as a diss (I don't think he did) and Shawn never seemed to indicate sensitivity about it, but nonetheless. Top guy.
"He didn't deserve for me to attack him like that, for any reason except for being the man that he is." THAT was lovely. "I shouldn't have made fun of him in that way, even though he's a rat-bastard."
