RWBY: Fairy Tales Season 1 Episode 3 Reaction - The Shallow Sea

In case you weren't aware, Fairy Tales has a running for _six_ episodes. We're only halfway there from getting some possible Volume 9 news.

Imagine your're a mouse that turned into a Faunus, you went from only a few cm tall to 6ft and a new craving for cheese and violence.

The fact that both stories mention the God Of Animals, to me, confirms that there are other gods in Remnant beyond the The Brothers.

Even though Faunus are special and awesome in their own way, but the sad part of the downside is they're treated as monsters and subjugated to Racism by other humans that's still existing in the Canon Story of RWBY. My biggest question is, when are they gonna let go of the hate, regardless of what they are?

The most interesting line to me is 'different versions of the same story'. These aren't two different origin stories like I and several others here on RU-vid have assumed. Something happened, something that lead to both the shallow sea and the war story in equal measure.

I'd have to say I don't think it's the same island, since the water of the island in question was yellow, the beach side was redish sand with cracks, and the trees were much more tropical. Plus the GIANT tree in the center of it all. But then again the art design of the fairy tale could be very different from it so who knows. All I know is that I want to see the god of animals in rwby(I'm not 100% in the loop of the lore so I don't know if he's dead or gone). Over all a great story. Love to see more on the Faunists.

Same head cannon as me, I was hoping it was Salem that created the faunus. It would of added a new dynamic to the Faunus storyline which has been missing for a couple of volumes

I just wanna say that remembering back to watching Volume 8 every week and also watching ur live discussions/reactions for me, it makes me feel a great nostalgia over that period last year. I really love nostalgia feelings and I really am grateful that my experience for Volume 8 will also be apart of it in my memories. Please keep doing what you're doing on here and let's hope the best for our heroes in the up coming Volume! You bring me so much joy with your RWBY content and let's hope your RWBY Volume 9 videos along with RWBY Volume 9 will create more amazing experiences for me to later become great memories~!

Yeah, honestly I can see the God of Animals appearing in Volume 9.

The God of Animals reminds me of the Forest Spirit from Princess Mononoke.

I wonder if this God of Animals is the father of the God of Light and the God of Darkness. It kinda reminds me of how in Star Wars the Clone Wars there were these beings called the Force Weilders, each representing different aspects of the Force. The Daughter represented the Light Side, the Son represented the Dark Side, and the Father had both.

I love your theories, they do actually make so much sense and I've never thought about things that way before, at least in my own headcanons.

I highly doubt the V9 Island is Magic Faunus Origin Island. I mean, Ruby didn't wake up with any faunus bits and having this magic space they fell to be connected to the faunus would mean that the faunus are indeed special in a way instead of outright being equals of humanity. That alone would mean that, in a way, Adam Taurus was right.

I'll comment here roughly what I commented on the Original video. I really like this episode, I don't feel either story is the truth, but both reveal how the Faunus have come to think of themselves over time. The Shallow Sea if a story you can see Ghira telling Blake before bedtime and Blake taking it to heart, showing that despite appearances Faunus are equal to humans. The Judgement of the Faunus while similar has tones of supremacy, Faunus being almost divinely chosen and being "Better" than humans or animals exactly the kind of story you'd think of Adam embracing. The two together really show how the White Fang developed in ideology over time and there's a lot to unpack in general.

I THOUGHT OF THE END CREDIT SCENE TOO THE WAVES SOUNDED EXACTLY THE SAME

I think the Salem made Faunus theory is pretty solid, but it also could be a bit… uncomfortable for the allegory? To make the oppressed group made by the big bad guy. Outside the allegory I think it works really well and could be really cool, but yeah it would likely be a little 😬 As well

"Every myth has some truth behind it"

Here's an idea...what if the lesson of the Shallow Sea isn't so much "Be proud you're a Faunus" but "Be proud of who you are"? The shallow humans were afraid to go into the sea because they were afraid of what the sea would show them to be. Maybe what the V9 island will show Team RWBY+2 is who they really are. Is Ruby really a good person through and through, or will the island (or God of Faunus) show her that some of her decisions in Atlas were not as good as she thought? Will Jaune, who right now hates himself, be shown that actually he is a good man? (By Pyrrha, perhaps?) Maybe even Neo will realize how she has been twisted into insanity and murder as she confronts her own past? A volume of forced introspection, to show Team RWBY who they really are...that might be just the thing to get them back on the right path, and show them how to beat Salem.

Interesting. A third god it would seem. Like everyone else I'm excited to see if this plays into volume 9. I'm very curious to see if this is truly a third deity or some sort of joint venture between brothers, just a myth etc. Let us not forget that team RWBY fell leaving Salem in a much better position to achieve her ends than she has ever likely been. CRWBY has me legit stumped on where they are going to take this.

This is actually the best one so far. It feels like a World of Remnant, and unlike the first one it explains what happens. It's a bit... Basic? But it's pretty good.

Speaking of Head Canon, with regard to the Faunus, mine originated with "The Lost Fable". It goes like this: When the Gods of Light and Darkness departed Remnant the God of Darkness plowed right through the moon shattering it. Those shattered moon fragments where imbued with the God of Darkness' magic (divine) power. Some of those fragments where pulled down by Remnant's gravity and fell as meteorites. Weather and time eroded those meteorites but the magic power remained and seeped into the soil where it came into contact with the ashes of Remnant's first incarnation of humans. The combination of residual magic and human ashes gave rise to the Faunus. Now that the God of the Animals has been established, I'll have to revise it to include its likely intervention. Also, lunar fragments imbued with the God of Darkness' power could provide a means of hurting Salem maybe even breaking her curse of immortality. This may be an option Ozpin never considered...

The funny thing about the story of judment is that the panter, now fanus, said "prehaps they have" when the human, now fanus, said "I though the would choose the supperior species" and later on we don't see the Panter fanus and I know that there could be a lot of posibilities maybe he die on that battle with the grimm or he had a different set of mind or just didn't wabt to put him there 😅 but make you think about it

both tales take place near the shoreline, which make me wonder if this fairy tale is references a different, certain one from Volume 9. I personally question now if the Faunus really started on Remnant, and what bits of the tale are actually true. this also means that, if the Faunus did start in this other world, then there was a way to travel from this place to Remnant. if that way still exists, then the heroes, Neo, and any other possible Atlas survivors may have their way back to Remnant.

I just thought of something right when you said that this is the island ruby and company are on. I was thinking that since the god of animals chose these specific individuals what if it's not just by chance that ruby and company where choosen to be on that island. 🤔 I could be wrong but that was just a thought that popped up.

There’s been a lot of people pointing out similarities between this fairy tale’s visuals and the end credits scene of Volume 8, where Crescent Rose is stuck in the sand. I do see similarities, but two things make me remain skeptical that it’s the same place: 1) there’s no giant tree or any “semblance” of the cliff it was on present in the fairy tale, and 2) The fairy tale specifically mentions this god was searching all over Remnant - but they’ve specifically made a point of emphasizing wherever the place RWBY proper is focusing on right now is NOT part of Remnant. Hiatus theories abound! XD

Maybe the place Ruby, Yang, Blake, Jean, & Neo ended up after falling is the birth place of the faunus?

I personally suspect that this god of animals could be the light brother... While he and the dark brother supposedly left Remnant, the brother of light did bring Ozma back and did it some time after the events with Salem... I suspect he might have been hanging around for a while... Maybe going back and forth... Who knows? I guess there could be many explanations... Still, to me, this seems like something he would do though.

Well there is a big issue with the island theory that more or less hinders it. The island in V8 would not likely be in Remnant at all, while faunus exists in the world of Remnant. So that makes a very huge question of "if this island is the shallow sea with those powers, then how did faunus get to Remnant."

I am curious, of the 5 non-Faunus characters that ended up on this Island, who would be the most likely to jump in and become a Faunus?

7:39 fables often teach lessons, such as the importance of looking benath the skin. -Ozpin is right, Never judge a book by its cover. 8:53 humans are more capable of destroying than they are creating. From what I have read, scene, and witnessed. It's not 50/50 it's 100% guaranteed.

For one thing, Qrow did say that were hundreds of gods that were made up by storytellers, and secondly even with the reveal about the Maidens it was only ever said that the fairytales contain some amount of truth, never that they would always be one hundred percent true stories. But if what Qrow said is true, then it's entirely possible that Arnold was right. These stories could've started out as the same story told from different perspectives by different people who were there. Faunus count as people, right? And the deer God might've been Salem all along. Then over time, the stories drifted through re-tellings.

One things was clear never trust a god judgement in RWBY

BIG THEORY: If that is the same island, it brings forth the question as to why Ambrosius had that little serious moment to warn RWBY to not fall. Perhaps they’ve gone back in time to this: when Faunus were first created. Now they have the risk of possibly altering the future if they’re not careful enough. Because if they were(I doubt they will) to reveal the future of those who became Faunus to the first humans who arrived at the island, they could prevent Faunus from ever being created; preventing Blake, Sun, Velvet, Ilia, all the others from being born. Or in a better case scenario, ever being born as Faunus but not going through the events they did to meet each other. Perhaps this will be internal conflict for Blake, wondering if her life would’ve been better had she been born a human. Surely the god of animals, should he appear, would allow RWBY to choose whether or not they will mess with time and should Blake be thinking in such a manner as described before, she’d probably consider it. But her friends(most likely Yang) will be there to stop her and to show just how much humans and Faunus can get along. They’ll tell the god of animals just how much Blake means to them and that they’ll fight to ensure all other Faunus in their time get to know the same feelings. With that pleasing confirmation that the two species can get along, the god of animals will send the team back to their time, maybe even with his thanks. He’d be grateful to them because the god of light and god of darkness probably scolded and/or punished him for tampering with their creation; accusing him of bringing more room for corruption in the world.

So after watching this episode, if some Faunus have silver eyes like the Hound from V8 and were either originally humans or animals, that could mean that some animals have silver eyes as well. 🤔

The two islands are not the same. In the Chapter 9 preview, there are giant things [starfish?] on the beach. There is nothing giant in the fairy tale. Everything is normal sized. Also: Where in the fairy tale is Yggdrasil?
