RWBY Theory - The Strongest Semblance Possible in RWBY 

The strongest semblance would be to steal someone's semblance for a limited time and use it.

After this video i realized that rwby is teaching me more than my school, first english and now chemistry

Marcus Black's semblance is still the most OP for me. He could steal semblances permanently. Mercury didn't get his semblance back after Marcus got defeated. Depending on how quickly he could steal one, it could be insanely absurd. Imagine Marcus in a fight using a semblance that could steal others in instants. Ruby's moving too fast? Not anymore! Weiss summoning her arma gigas? Not anymore! Nora getting stronger because of electricity? Not anymore! She now takes damage! Jaune's amplifying someone's aura? Nope! Not anymore!

“Strongest Semblance” feels a bit subjective. I feel Tyrian’s semblance is strong combat-wise since he can erode parts of person's aura barrier by touch creating a weak spot in their defense.

That thumbnail is a banger. Salem and Ozpin look badass. Also Ozpin's semblance could potentially relate to time so it has a chance of being quite OP maybe.

Are we going to ignore the fact that Ruby’s semblance is sort of like Rumple’s? She turns her body into flower petals and we have seen she is capable of splitting into multiple parts. She can even turn others into the petals too. She is changing her body from body to petals. Talk about the science side of that.

I don't think the Midas touch semblance changing matter is as new a concept as you seem to think. Ruby regularly turns herself into a still-conscious moving ball of petals - literally splitting her entire body, clothes, weapons, and anything else she's carrying - including other people and what they're carrying - into thousands of pieces that take a completely different form and seem to be made of a different material to skin, bone, cloth, and metal, and somehow still remain conscious, move around freely with more force than they started with, and even if a few petals are lost they don't seem to take chunks out of what was turned into those petals. At times she's even in her normal human form and there's still petals coming from her. Ruby's semblance not only changes matter into whatever those petals are made of, but also creates force from nothing, creates matter, and allows her to keep conscious control while split into thousands of disconnected pieces that can even split into separate _groups_ of pieces!

i dont really think Golden Touch is that unrealistic, if aura is energy, the ability to convert that into matter is pretty understandable, right???

What about these Semblances becoming even more powerful thanks to Jaune?

On the topic of semblance permanence, as far as we know, Murcury's dad could permanently take someone's semblance away.

I would have to agree that Glynda's Telekinesis is easily the strongest, though Golden Touch is PHYSICALLY BROKEN. Not quite sue about Aura Siphon, depending on the rate of transfer, because my first OC actually has something slightly similar, only it's a small portion that's based around impact and can also READ said Aura. Anyways, yeah... The closest to broken for Semblances I've ever come up with would be Dust Link, where the user could use his Aura to create chains made out of Dust of a few basic types (Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Gravity, which are also the Dust types that his weapon of choice uses... whiiiich is essentially a miniaturized artillery platform, which is strapped to his back and utilizes no less than SIX two-inch bore CANNONS, while the Gravity Dust is actually utilized in a form of weight reduction system) and also control these chains and even use them to feed into Dust-powered mechanisms. While this has a hefty cost of Aura, it IS still the creation of matter, and DUST for that matter, from next to nothing - from Aura energy. Next closest would probably be the one from my absolute favorite OC (based on Black Rock Shooter), "Stepping Up." Essentially the embodiment of competitive nature, Stepping Up sacrifices a large chunk of Aura proportionate to how much transformation is brought into play... Transformation as in the character temporarily developing into the peak physical form for her age, as an athletic build (from skinny to lean, couple added inches of height, increase of strength and durability) as well as combining weaponry into one or two (depending on how many are used) large, temporary arm-mounted cannons. What this also does is drastically alter her disposition into a cold, uncaring, and aggressive one, further emphasizing on the idea of how competition can bring out the best AND worst of someone, as is what this Semblance represents. Hearing you try and science the transformation of stuff into gold is hilarious! But from a physics perspective as we understand it mass can be converted into energy and vice-versa therefor any mass of one thing can be turned into an equal mass of something else without breaking basic laws. Idk how it is in the book cas i haven’t read it but if they are changing the mass in order to keep volume the same then that’s an issue and so if we are taking conservation of mass+energy then either they are turning their aura into mass assuming aura is energy ir just taking mass from another source IE air. Don’t get me wrong interacting with mass and energy this way is completely illogical but if we assume that they can affect the way the Higgs-Boson works in making stuff have mass then tbf this doesn’t seem to bad, not compared to CHANGING PHYSICAL CHANCE. The idea of a person affecting chance is MUCH more weird and OP if it can change quantum chance and stuff (Also i would argue Weiss and Gylnda and Raven show that Aura can be made into energy as their feats are only possible with physics if we assume that too, who knows maybe they get the energy from eating XD)

"Strongest" is subjective, depending on the circumstance that makes it so. I assume we are talking about PvP semblances. Marrow's "stay" semblance is the most broke, if he can get it off first. It basically causes his opponent to freeze and become completely helpless.

We need more information on Mercury's dad. As far as we know it steals semblances. Mercury once said "he took it away with his" but we have absolutely no confirmation on if he permenantly lost it or if he actually can get it back. We also dont know if he can use other semblances or if he just blocks them. Or if he does steal than can he hold multiple? I think that if this semblance is as bad as many of us think it is, than it would be the most broken semblance. However it does have reasonable limits, it could be not so broken. But we won't know until we get more info.

I dunno, I personally disagree on Raven's Semblance being _that_ broken. I've written her pretty extensively in RP using the canon parameters. That limiting factor makes it _extremely_ situational in 99% of contexts. In context with STRQ, though.... *that* is where you'd get it to be _absolutely broken._ But in a normal, everyday context? No. I think it's very situational. Also, I think Meyers is just a hack of a writer. He breaks _basic_ rules of prose writing but not in good, stylistic ways. It's just _bad writing._

Well, there's one obvious way Rumpole could have some magic: she might be the summer maiden. That's the only maiden currently unaccounted for, and it makes perfect sense that the summer maiden would be in Vacuo, where the associated vault and relic are. Of course, if that's true, it would be strange for Rumpole to do something that involves some use of those maiden powers when she's presumably trying to keep them secret. Also, would you say that Glynda's semblance also has an aspect of permanence to it? After all, when she repairs a building, it seems to stay permanently repaired.

Anything that involves molecular change is pretty top tier on the power scale. Almost starting to wonder now if the Gods didn't actually leave. Like, maybe they returned on their own as 2 of the teachers. Or maybe this professor is an avatar to the god of creation. Anyways, I can't imagine much more being stronger. The only way I could see semblances being stronger would be current abilities, but scaled up like a marvel movie. Can you imagine Pyrrah's semblance if she didn't need physical contact first?

Just imagine someone in Remnant with a radiation semblance. That would definitely be the most dangerous semblance of them all.

My character's semblance is he can temporarily conjure weapons Final Fantasy 15 style, albeit the weapons don't transform or have a second function; they are just normal weapons. However, that hardly matters with such a vast and diverse arsenal of weapons (perhaps no firearms though, just bow and arrow or crossbow and throwing weapons).

Of topic, but imagine a schnee who is also a maiden, the ability to use different types of elements with your glyphs without using dust would be pretty powerful

The strongest semblance in theory is manipulation of physics. You could manipulate all physics that i could list on. List of sub-powers of physics manipulation: Airwave (Manipulate the ratio between air pressure and sound waves, causing air molecules to vibrate at proportional magnitude of the ratio. This allows the user to create and control supersonic air currents. It also allows the user to transmit and control sound within the atmosphere. I think the strongest semblance would be something that allows you to copy semblances from others. If you have enough semblances you could do whatever you want like combine other semblances. Well ıt would depend on how much aura you have and how much aura semblance needs.

at 5:31 you don't have to add neutrons or electrons, however the jacket did not immediately radiate away, so you can assume there are additional neutrons added. There would be no possible way of determining whether electrons were added/removed, because to change from cotton to gold, all you need to do is add/remove protons.

Something to add: Ruby's semblance isn't speed. She breaks herself down at the molecular level and reforms at her intended location.

That would be super broken at 12:00 as Semblances have the possibility to be projected outwards, we have seen this multiple times. Examples I can already give are Pyrrha with manipulating the cans as well as Penny's swords with the polarity pulses, as well as Cinder that can superheat just the tips off her arrows and shoot it outward to whatever surface it his and superheat that area to cause AOE attacks due to arrows targets superheat till combustion, even in volume 7 Vine suggested for Jaune to learn a similar thing to project his semblance on a greater scale. So if a semblance of Nuclear fission/fusion pops up and uses a range weapon, may it be a bow or a pistol, it can set off nukes everywhere. People like Ironwood would be broken at that point with his Due Process.

just spliting a few attoms won't cause a nuclear explosion, in a nuclear bomb atoms split and hit others causing them to split and so on and so forth releasing a huge amount of energy. Plus if that were to happen it would be one of the worse semblances ever, why? because it would be a 1 time use only, because the user will also die, you cannot get away from the explosion fast enough, maybe with raven's portals, but even that would be a stretch.

One of the most broken semblance ideas I have had is semblance fusion (they can channel the auras of two others whom they have a close connection to within themselves creating a semblance with traits of both the inputs and give it to them by binding the creation to an object containing the fused aura (one of the two components auras are needed for usage to create the effect and overtime the storage of aura in the object deteriorates into nothing) Another broken idea I had was named black hole a large aoe aura syphon due to the character physically having the aura shell removed in human experiments triggering an adaptation to absorb the aura of everything nearby to attempt to build an aura cloak and due to this it's a miracle they even survived (Another human experiment semblance idea I had was preparing an sequence of actions and then preforming them at a stupidly fast rate (think being able to slash his sword over 100 times I a second but the more accelerated the movement is the more aura it consumes)

I think your missing another ridiculously OP part about the gold semblance in what it can be used for. She can use it to turn people to gold, all she has to do is touch them, that's insane... she could kill people instantaneously, trap enemies in their own cloths, make enemy weapons completely useless (if she didnt want to outright kill them). From what your describing she can completely bypass their aura and would be virtually impossible to fight in hand to hand combat.

Personally, I think we're focusing too much on combat related abilities. I generally find non-combat/utility abilities to be potentially even more overpowered due to how versatile it can be in combat as well as non-combat situations. A good example would be STICKY FINGERS from JJBA Part 5, a Combat Stand with an insane Utility ability.

I am actually not surprise that a semblance can be that powerful, even enough to match the capabilities of magic. In fact, it's just make humanity 2.0 more interesting and intriguing, because contrary the words of the god of light, humans are not incomplete or have a "semblance/remnant" of magic, they actually managed to replicate supernatural abilities without the help of the gods, they do it only with the power of their souls (aura). So, in my case at least, it makes sense that semblances are able (of course in very particulars cases) to be like magic (i mean, ruby can turn herself into freaking rose petals, i still dont understand what's so different between that and being a bird, maybe a just watched to much a certain magical index, because it's power system is very similar to rwby)

I can imagine that maybe her aura transforms into extra gold atoms to make something heavier. To make them lighter however is more of a mystery. Or maybe she can't make things lighter. Perhaps she could only add on but not take away. Personally that makes sense.

Paracausality literally being able to bend space and time to your will

Nobody knows why gravity is so weak as a force. It's easy enough to overcome it temporarily just by jumping, and even a very weak magnet is stronger than the Earth's gravity. Despite this, gravity is insanely consistent, able to affect things light years away in the case of stars. Very strange when you think about it.

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but Ruby's semblance is already an example of this, at least it seems like it when i think about it. We now know that she can turn herself and what she is carrying, including other people (Nora V4), into rose petals as she moves with her semblance. As you said it is only temporary and you are right that Rumpole's is possibly the first to permanently change something, however fundamentally she still changes the molecular make up of objects (living or inanimate) into rose petals which would require several elements to change. One could argue that biological material changing (so Ruby herself) isn't too world breaking, as it changes back and a lot of living things are made up of similar compounds, but her scythe and clothing would have to undergo complete chemical re-structuring, only to turn back seconds later, which is even more dangerous than Rumpole. I'm not super into science (as you may be able to tell) but that is what this seems like to me.

I gave a character a time manipulating semblance. Because of that, despite being an old woman, she could effortlessly punt you into the stratosphere

It seems like a lot of you forget that these are super powers and it’s not like there can’t be people out in the world with much more powerful Semblances than what we have seen of the main cast.

I have several crazy semblances for OCs. DownScale shrinks things down to 1/10 scale including mass and will stay such so long as it is contained or locked in position. AstroSensory can divine location and horoscopes based of an Aethereal connection to the stars Spectre forms a cloak of aura that allows the user to phase through solid objects, phase objects and nearby allies while semi transparent, and at max phase into a target and control it from within. Quick Mud forms a mortar that bonds things to earth. Tidal Shift manipulates gravitational fields within 1-2meters DragonStream speeds things up along a serpentine path. ...

One of my OC's Semblance is also permanent as it decays most objects into a Pile of Rust/Ash however the pile can be put in a simth's forge. It's a bit broken but the downside is you have to touch something and Aura amount required for the size of the object in question, so it's useful against Small and medium objects such as Swords, Windows, and Armor.

Sorta relating them to groups of the colors on the periodic table. I am also a firm believer that semblances ARE magic if magic or maiden has been in the family at some point. Take Yang for example, she has purple eyes, but when her semblance is engaged they turn red, not just cause she's angry, cause she's Raven's daughter. Neos semblance is pretty powerful and unique and she has different colored eyes! Silver overpowers them all cause the God of creation himself had these eyes. I know that's not a semblance but imo eyes do have a direct connection to the aura and semblance! Ruby's burst into pedals has more to it according to Harriet cause Summer may or may not have been a maiden at some point. Penny being the new Winter maiden having green, instead of blue eyes let alone a man's aura within a robot is quite a game changer and I hope she can tap into the powers quick cause by the end of vol 8 it's gonna be a race to get the 3rd relic. Summer maiden, who are you!?!!!!!!?

The ability to take aura and gift it to another is literally the same thing that Ozpin's machine was meant to do. Assuming that Ozpin's machine would work, this means that the person with this semblance is also capable of stealing maiden powers, and thus capable of stealing magic.

Transmutation semblances would be ridiculously strong, even WITHOUT energy from fission/fusion. Fullmetal alchemist already gave us a fair share of horrific uses for transmutation. -Transmuting someone’s blood into explosive compounds -Transmuting a person’s entire body into ethanol and evaporating them -Transmuting the air around someone to pure oxygen, making them violently burst into flame -Transmuting someone’s skin into a fragile carbon structure and shattering them -Decompose the molecules of a human body, making them explode and die

I hope that at some point they make a character based of the roman god janus...he could have the power to shift his position with anyone nearby. It would be awesome, like....nothing could hit him in a group fight cause he could just let someone else take the shot

I have a theory, semblancees are vary low form of magic because mind control, and mind wiping sounds like magic. Also area could be like mana/energy. But it is just a theory.

Rumpole, potential candidate for Summer Maiden

The ability to manipulate one's aura enhance and manifested it. If a semblance is just a manifestation of aura could that not be replicated if he could directly manipulate aura.

I dont know, but for me the most OP would be aura related semblance, like Jaune. He seems to be capable of regenerating part of his aura (he alredy has more than usual) and make someone else's semblance more powerful and durable. If he could use someone else han him aura for amplyfing anoner one would be even more sick. He could make a semblance that is already strong even more strong, like glynda bring able to move a whoke buildung, or weiss and make her able to make a HUGE arma gigas or having more than one summoning at a time wich for me is the strongest.

Well actually to change an element into another, you just need to remove or add Protons on their own. Changing the number of Neutrons would only cause isotopes.

Marcus Black's Semblance negation is permanent as well it would seem. Even more broken, it manipulates someone's soul p much, instead of an object.

This is very in depth, but semblence is directly referencing magic. It's a semblence of full magic. Here, while scientifically it can do this, the more likely situation is that changing things to gold is just a magical full conversion with minimal scientific reason. It's kinda like Maria's preflexes. Makes no real sense until you realize it's an abnormal supernatural power that allows preflexes to function at such a high speed.

I am kind of hoping we see a semblance kind of like mind control but a person is able to take control of a grimm, that would be an OP Semblance in my view, run up touch a Grimm and you are able to take them over and use them to fight beside you, when they die take control of another one.

A few years late, but whenever you execute a fusion of fission reaction, some particles are LOST, destroyed and converted into energy. If the semblance immediately turns this back into matter or otherwise does this more seamlessly, then there would be no such destructive energy release.

OK!!! Ozma or rather ozpin one of the key benifet of his curse...... I'm calling it as a possibility of oscar semblance/past self abilities as well the 'one for all' theory. Cuz so far oz(in my opinion) is the cause of being the all-father of silver eyes warrior, and makes me wonder what other tricks his curse has!!

Golden touch i think they meant Midas Touch cause the Midas Touch is a supernatural ability in folklore and other stories that makes everything you touch turns to gold but it normally cant be controlled

Gold touch is just matter transmutation, turning her aura(energy) into the molecules necessary to turn objects into gold

My oc Ace Storm had the semblance of Healing Factor and this work like how Qrow and Clover semblances work he doesn't have the control, just automatic healing and this semblance strong that it can heal from wounds to fatal blows without dying and my oc's grandfather had the semblance of Atom play which can play and have some crazy and complicated thing that was able to create a new types of dust that never invented before which also able to create one of my oc weapons called the Dust Decoded which i inspired by the Omnitrix. The strongest semblance I can think of is one of three: 1. Manipulation of the laws of physics in any way you wish, for example, all matter has gravity, boom, now all matter has antigravity or boom matter has no gravity, friction generates heat, boom, friction disperses heat, metals are conductive of electricity, boom, metals are now insulated to electricity, oh 2 certain types of atoms are attracted to each other, boom now they repel each other. 2. The manipulation of other peoples semblances, like how they work or even what they do, example, Yang’s semblance it she is able to take any damage felt to her and throw it back at the enemy with twice the force, boom, now Yang’s semblance is any time she throws a punch double the damage of the punch is done to her. 3. Immunity to all other semblances, such as physical semblances like Yang’s, Ruby’s, Nora’s, Ren’s in a certain vicinity semblances stop working, this would include semblances that use projectiles like Glynda’s, Cinder’s, or Pyrrha’s, ranged semblances such as Emerald’s, Qrow’s, Raven’s, or Clover’s that don’t need to be near someone to work, they have no effect on the person or their equipment and object around them, manifestations like Weiss’s, Blake’s, and Sun’s would unmanifest or stop before reaching the person, and nullification semblances such as Tyrian’s or Hazel’s wouldn’t work.

Is no one thinking about how Jaune can amplify himself, which would amplify his semblance, which would amplify himself faster, and create exponential growth, giving him unlimited aura to put into aura enhanced attacks?

I think it can be semi explained by the theory that atoms have the innate ability to “teleport” around the universe at random. But that would mean she is a) creating millions on millions of microscopic wormholes, b) able to sense where just the right atoms in the universe are so she doesn’t make something implode, and c) doing this on a daily basis and somehow not once making a singularity

Could animals manifest semblances since that can have aura

I think There a overpowered semblance coming in the near future and I think The most broken semblance is DBZ Beerus Haikai based on to destroy anything.

Okay, so I've actually thought about magic being involved in semblances. TBH this is a possible crack/conspiracy theory for RWBY, but it deals with the first extinction of humanity. I always thought about this one question "What about the ones that didn't side with Salem?" Why I ask is because think about the three leaders she went to in V6 Ch3, shouldn't there technically be four to five or even six. If you look at how Remnant is now you have the four kingdoms and Menagerie. What about the first go around with humanity? wouldn't there be more than four kingdoms, the dragon-shaped island close to Vale and Vacuo would probably have had one, and Menagerie probably would've had people living there too. Now onto the actual theory, is it possible that if there were still humans with magic around in the world of Remnant? Aside from the maidens of course. They would be living alongside Salem in secret, having heard of her being responsible for the obliteration of humanity. As we know from V6 Ch3, if your parents had magic, you have magic. Shown with Salem and Ozma's children. Now if you had a person with magic, and paired them with a newly born human/Faunus, what would the child get? Would they have a semblance or would they have straight-up magic? I say neither, they would have an in-between kind of semblance/magic, what they do is in the realm of magic but it's their semblance, which means it has limits. Taking the gold semblance for example it could be possible that Rumple (that how you spell it?) is descended from a possible still existing line of previous humans, but the magic they had is so diluted from newer humans and Faunus that it's basically an "Overpowered Semblance" or a "Broken Semblance". Remember when it comes to magic itself it has some limitations not a lot when it starts breaking past those limits, that's when it starts breaking into the question "Is it magic or science?" Also, most op semblance would have to be the Schnee semblance of glyphs.

Can I get an opinion on my OC's semblance which I call Grimm Nullification, basically as long he is within a 10 meter radius he can either reduce the combat abilities of the Grimm or completely destroy them at complete cost of his Aura for 24 hours. The larger the Grimm the harder it is for him to suppress them.

Didn't Penny explain Rubies semblance in Volume 8 using science talk? Meaning Ruby can also manipulate atoms in a way.

i think we already have broken semblences not on the scale of this but like blakes or neos is on a atom level like u cant leave a after image there inless u leave some atoms of your self behind

I mean.. Can't you use dust to create physical matter? Rock dust to create rocks (as well as manipulate existing rock if I'm not mistaken), water dust to create water (dito), and ice dust to create ice? It would depend greatly on the how Golden Touch works... Does it, as you say, affect the atoms directly rearranging particles to create gold. Or does it do something like transform matter across an energy bridge? By that I mean convert the particles to energy then that energy back to particles? In the latter case it opens the possibility to do act without really worrying about the Strong Force, since you wouldn't be pulling particles apart.

Would a semblance like "Atmokineses", aka. Weather manipulation like Storm from X-Men, be possible?

the golden touch is definitely in the realm of magic. It's just like King Midas's story where the object turn to gold while breaking all scientific laws. Unless there is an explanation as to where the additional mass comes from, this semblance may indeed be the most powerful in terms of amount of energy required to use replicate the feat.

So feasibly then it would be possible for someone to have an explosion semblance and I'm not talking about the nuke thing he mentioned I'm meaning something closer to Backugo from my hero just th ability to create point blank explosions because if that is possible I would really like to use that for a character
