I think Salem was surprised due to how fast he reincarnated, if you listen to Watts in the background he says "So soon?" As if they didn't expect Ozpin to be active yet

Haven was Cinder's fault because, if it wasn't for her falling for Raven's spiel about Qrow because of her hatred for Ruby, they would've got the relic and destroyed the tower without the heroes even being there

"Don't lie to him, Ruby; we're better than that." Oof...that really hurt Ruby's heart. You can see the pain on her face. She doesn't feel like she was lying; and she still cares about Oscar, whom she views as an innocent in all this. Plus Qrow is kind of undercutting her as a leader with that bitter remark.

Honestly, I don't think Cinder killing OG Beacon Ozpin was explicitly ordered. I think Cinder had quite a bit of autonomy and that was just something that happened, probably provoked by Oz himself. Cinder would have welcomed a chance to flex her new, true powers against someone that she might normally avoid a fight with. So for Salem, putting Ozpin out of the way leaves her to run roughshod over Remnant for a few years at least.

The snow wasn't too bad, but Maria said that is was going to get dark soon. You really don't want to be out in the snow after dark, not without a fire and some kind of shelter.

I'm thinking back to Volume 4, and when Salem asks Cinder "Did you kill Ozpin?", maybe that was less of an "I asked you to kill Ozpin, did you do it?", and more of a "Did you kill Ozpin? Because that means we have to start looking for him again."

Ozpins "lies" maybe weren't a good idea - but it is hard to tell if the "truth" would really have been better like "my ex-wife is about to destroy the universe and there is no stopping here - we can only stall her" makes you choose between a death without resisting or try to resist and die anyway - great motivation especially when all negativity attracts the grimm and accellerate the end of the world even more... from an outside point/neutral point some things/decision seem easy but the same things from any kind of leadership pov can look completely different... mfg Olli

Just want to take a moment and thank Puns of Damage for the well-wishing tail of her video and for being a lovely human being in general. I don’t have a large RWBY community where I’m at (none who are caught up anyways) so I like watching these videos and feeling part of the fandom. So thank you for uploading these reactions, they’re fun to watch!

It was Cinder's fault because she was the one who let her vendetta towards Ruby complicate the plan a lot more that what they needed it. They had the relic handed in a silver plate by Lionheart but she fell in Raven's trap/provocations and made things harder

Judging by all of the clues presented, I'd think that there's a waiting period between reincarnations. Long enough for Salem to make a move at the very least. Which is why it makes sense for the 'so soon?' line and Salem's... outburst.

I know it's been a while since you recorded this and might have changed your mind on it, but I feel the reason Salem is so pissed is that she *didn't* send Cinder to kill Ozpin. Remember back in Volume 4, Salem was interrogating Cinder on if she did in fact kill Ozpin. It didn't have the "so was your mission successful" vibe, but rather the "what the hell did you do" vibe. Ozpin is a wildcard Salem can't afford to be on the loose right now and Cinder is repeatedly screwing up.

Absolutely great to see this up and online, I always enjoy your extended thoughts on an episode. :) And now back to watching our traumatized teenage heroes... (and teenage villains).

Anyone else slightly curious on who Arryn would pick between the "hot goth mother Salem" and Ozma

I think Salem thought she would have more time before ozpin made a move again. she probably calculated a lot of the current relic hunting plan under the assumption that it would take longer to find a host - even Tyrion was shocked it was so soon

"Small boy energy" is such a mood.

I think Salem reacted that way for two reasons. One, like many have said she was not expecting him to reincarnate so soon. She probably thought she would have a few years of being able to wreck shit up without having to worry about Oz getting in the way. The second and more important reason is that she really just hates Ozpin that much. They had one of the most epic break ups in history and she is still angry about it. Salem is smart enough to know that keeping Oz a prisoner is the best move but she hates him so much she can't stop herself from killing him every chance she gets. Its a lot like how Hazel reacted when he saw that Ozpin was at the fight, he knew it was a dumb way to handle it but his anger and rage just overwhelmed him. For Salem its probably the same thing but on a much more intense level. Remember what she said at the end of volume 3 "I can't wait to watch you burn" and how did she kill Ozpin after their first fight, she burned him alive. Its like Hazel said she want to kill him over and over and over again and she wants to do it the same way she did it the first time

You're one of my favorite Rwby reactors and to hear something like come from you was extremely touching. It's something that goes very unsaid as I am someone whom feels very alone in my family. While you hate the lighting at your home for the purpose of recording, it is nice not having to worry about volume as much as in your campus accommodations - your singing is much nicer with far greater clarity when you're not having to restrain your voice... it's quite nice, in fact!

The first swear I remember hearing in RWBY is Coco saying "Damn" when she lost Em in the vytal festival (remember those times? Good times...)

I understand their point of view on Ozpin, but I REALLY see it from his view too...

Trying to capture someone is much harder than trying to kill someone. Cinder had just come into her full Maiden powers, and the battle seemed pretty intense. The plan could have been something like "capture him if you can, but otherwise kill him so that we can get a period of time where he can't do anything". And even then Ozpin could probably just swallow a cyanide tooth or do a "commit suicide" spell in order to force the respawn. I doubt he doesn't have contingency plans to deal with exactly the sort of scenario you were suggesting.

With someone as skilled as Ozpin, killing is definitely easier than capturing him since Cinder probably couldn't really hold back (that shield thing alone...). So far, the only real chance to capture Ozma would have been after that first fight, but Salem was freshly "betrayed" and SUPER pissed (also her children seemingly were collateral damage) and body #2 would have long since died by now anyway. Maybe if Hazel had somehow recognized him at the train station? No semblance or cane, at least.

I think they were all surprised that Ozpin reincarnated so quickly. I figured that there might be some period of time before he passes on to his next incarnation, so they were counting on getting some shit done before he reincarnated.

I think Ozpin forced her hand. He isn't going to risk being taken hostage, so he forced Cinder to kill him.

7:30 "I love how the wastes just kinda have a Covenant vibe to them" You know, I'm surprised I didn't realise that, the landing platform outside Salem's castle is similar to some areas in Halo 2 in terms of layout. And what you said at about 15:05 kinda makes me want to play some Halo 2 missions now. Ozpin's lack of plan is something that really is down to him being so focused on wanting to kill Salem to try and stop her that he never considered if there were other options and how everyone reacted to finding out he had no plan was great, especially Qrow and the delivery of the line by Vic Mignogna. But Oz's reaction to that is easily what tells us the most, he never wanted to be found out to have no plan and now that people know, he's hiding, too afraid of what's going to happen next. Oscar being worried he'll be another one of Oz's disposable bodies is also a great thing to have him worry about, even if Qrow was a bit of an a***hole to Ruby for trying to make him feel better, there is truth to what he said. Maria taking control was great, especially with the info we learnt in Chapter 6 giving some context to her, and it seems like she'll be leading them from this point onwards. Tyrian's scene with Emerald was perfect, showing us how mad he truly is, not just by pretending to be concerned but also how he so willingly cut himself in Emerald's weapon to make a point. That was both a power move and a great way to intimidate someone. Jen Taylor's delivery of the lines in this chapter was also perfect, she was not having any excuses. Seeing through Hazel's lie (Which was likely to protect Emerald for potentially being punished in Cinder's place since at the time neither he nor Emerald knew Cinder was alive) and just attacking him with the freaky Grimm hand portal (Like, please, don't attack me with those) and calmly asking Emerald was so well done. Then her reaction to finding out Oz reincarnated so soon could mean she still has some feelings for him, although, I hope it's just more a "Come on, it normally takes much longer for this to happen" angry scream (But he's such a bad person to be honest, she can do so much better than him, Oz lies to everyone, even his closest allies). Also, agreed, it would've been a much safer bet to lock up Ozpin and keep him prisoner, he's too much of a risk to constantly kill him every time he comes back (Which is an inversion of the trope of someone being too dangerous to be left alive that I like). 13:18 Agreed, they are nice trees. Finally, Brunswick Farm, the location's set up in this chapter and over the next one was done really well. 22:48 Ok, that rant about the Creepy Grimm hands is such a mood Glad this reaction and the next one was finally unblocked, hope that the one for Chapter 6 doesn't get blocked

It would be safer to capture Oz, but not to bring him to the wastes. For all we know, Oz doesn't know where she is at the moment (after she may have found out that Oz has been trying to spy, she may have relocated).

Oscar's kind of being thrown into the deep end here, minimal training in Ozpin's skills, time to build muscle reflexes, and he's already reunited with his agents, obtained a relic, and has enough firepower to drive off two hostile Maidens and their entourage - including the same Maiden who killed him, and has gotten even stronger since then. That's a hell of a comeback, especially in only a few months.

But as to this episode I really felt bad about Oscar and how he's now tied up in something that wasn't his choice rather like Pyrrah in my opinion when it came to her being the next Fall Maiden before you know. I think Salem specifically sent *CINDER* to kill Ozpin, not as Cinder Fall, but as the Fall Maiden. I think she believed that maybe if powers that were originally from Ozpin were used to kill him, maybe his curse would end. Just conjecture, but it's been something rolling around in my brainpan for a while now.

Ozpin presumably still has enough magic to kill himself if he's ever successfully imprisoned by Salem, and she can't spend all her time keeping her eye on him to prevent that

1. Capturing someone is much harder then killing them. 2. We don't have confirmation that Salem ordered the killing, just that she wanted to make sure of the facts from Cinder after the fact.

While Adam was partially responsible for the failure at haven, one could say that that’s still cinders fault cause the white fang was only there because cinder brought them in so his failure is still her fault too for not picking the best allies for the job

The problem with capturing someone. Especially someone like oz. Is how. He has magic. He was strong enough to go toe to toe with a maiden.. its easier to kill than capture. And restraining someone who was at near the top of their game is more dangerous than risking at worst a weak fresh reincarnation. Also oz could just kill himself once imprisoned as a last ditch exit. Which is something that has probably already happened. Salem and oz have been at this for millenia after all, like playing chess with a close friend regularly for decades. You learn how they think. And how they think you think. Oz is less dangerous now than he was. And wasnt expected to reincarnate so soon as well. Tactically speaking theres less risk involved in killing oz. If she captured oz and oz got out. He could gain more intel on salems plan. Or severely injure or even kill cinder. Robbing salem of a key advantage. Or learning the identity of her agents. Oz didnt know the big fella was an agent of salem's but did know he was an enemy of ozpin's which shows how little intel oz had. And how much effort salem put to keeping it that way.

Locking up Ozpin is not as easy as you think. Cinder did beat Ozpin, but if she hadn't gone all out, she might of lost, and Ozpin's going to fight to the death - he knows being captured would be worse. If Ozpin was imprisoned, he could just suicide and reincarnate anyway. It's pointless, just kill him.

I believe Salem thinks Ozpin would have taken longer to resurrect... Enough time for her to do what she wanted to do, and to just take him prisoner would NOT have been easy or possible.

Regarding the Death of professor Ozpin, even if Salem didn't explicitly order it (which would be consistent with her anger in Volume 4 when she was asking Cinder if he was killed), Ozma in Ozpin's body is arguably a bigger problem than Ozma in a new mystery body. Ozpin has had time to fully merge, hone his combat skill, and most importantly, he has built a substantial web of connections with important people. When Ozma reincarnates, he is very limited before he can plug himself back into the network of people he knew in his previous life. I think the primary source of Salem's rage this episode is learning that Ozma essentially got a lucky placement and managed to find Qrow really quickly

I think, and I imagine this isn't an original rebuttal, the expectation might be if cornered Ozpin would just commit suicide. Either with conventional means or even turning his own magic on himself. Yeah he wouldn't like to do that, but ultimately it'd be the same result. It's also probably harder to capture Ozpin than to kill him.
