Can we appreciate that Qrow was calm and level headed until Clover said that RWBY was also under arrest, and THEN he got mad. Such a good boi, we love u Qrow

It wasn't even the fact he was framed, it's the fact that Qrow's decision killed Clover, his own weapon killed Clover. That's going to leave mental scars, he might relapse back into drinking.

yo I just realized: Weiss so far always tried summoning her familiars out in the open, and she's always been punished for it. She knows this, she's learned from it, and created a mist to hide her so she can safely summon her knight

Can we just acknowledge Qrow’s voice actor? That scream at the end gave me chills

It really is a sad to me that so many people miss the entire part of how Qrow tried multiple times to take on Tyrian over Clover but Clover kept focusing on a Qrow and not even thinking about fighting Tyrian. Qrow could not take on two people at once so he ultimately made a deal with the devil just to get the fight over as fast as possible.

I remember someone mentioning on a forum (maybe Reddit) that each of the Ace Ops failures mirrors the original fable's morals. Clover's lack of patience in focusing on his current orders lead to his defeat. Harriet's overconfidence and lack of humility lead to her chasing Ruby around instead of supporting her team mates. Vine and Elm's lack of support lost to Ynag and Blake's teamwork. And Marrow's lack of decisiveness lead to him using his semblance too little too late. Or something to that extent.

Arnold, if you watch the battle again, you'll see Qrow was trying to avoid fighting Clover during the fight. But Clover kept targeting Qrow instead of Tyrion, and hence Qrow was forced to fight back.

I think what made Clover's death even sadder than his final words was when the light left Clover's eyes, becoming dull with no reflection

I was reading a lot of comments saying "why'd qrow fight with tyrion?" But in the beginning when Tyrion escaped, Qrow tries to stop him and Clover targets Qrow instead of Tyrion. I think this same scenario happens twice or three times before Qrow actually starts fighting with Tyrion vs Clover. Seems to me that Clover forced Qrow to team up with Tyrion

Qrow has gone trough so much. When he gets to Ironwood, he's going to explode.

"Qrow, what are you doing!?" I mean, he tried to just go for Tyrian when he showed up. Clover was the one focusing on Qrow. They were both being stupid, yeah, but Clover was the one taking the fight away from Tyrian. Don't blame only Qrow when it was the himbo keeping things mixed up.

In the end, Clover's luck has just ran out

It’s not just, “...that we win. The way we win matters.“ Ruby's right. The ACE Ops work well TOGETHER that's how they were assembled but they let their solo training slack. Meanwhile the RWBY squad just had to make the trek across Remnant solo, before coming back together AND THEN get trained in synchronicity by the ACE Ops. Clover, Qrow and Tyrian are all at fault. Neither Qrow or Clover wanted to concede a little, they each wanted things their way; and Tyrian played them off each other.

Ironwood: "Initiate Order 66." Me: I thought we were cool, man-

In the next episode I bet Qrow's gonna start drinking again... Qrow has been remnants punching bag guy has just had so much loss you really wonder if he's gonna snap one of these days

Marrow's Semblance isn't one at a time; we saw that at the rally. It's whoever is in his line of sight and he never got both Weiss and the Arma Gigas(?) in his line of sight.

TLDR: The action in this episode is the best kind of action: the kind that tells a story. With the Ace-Ops unanimously siding with Ironwood, they're acting as an extension of his beliefs and influence. Their fight with Team RWBY is a fight of blind allegiance to authoritarianism and cruelty in the name of "good" vs Team RWBY's more humanitarian and altruistic ideals. The result is a battle where the former ideology gets its ass kicked. You see this in the way the Ace-Ops belittle and bicker with each other, contrasted with the bonds of affection and absolute trust of Team RWBY. -My favorite scene in the episode is when Blake and Yang take out Vine and you see the reaction from the other Ace-Ops, realizing that they've really underestimated their opponents. -The fight with Qrow, Tyrian and Clover continues the themes of the other fight but takes them to a darker extreme. The entire battle hinges on Clover's decision to follow orders and treat Qrow as an enemy instead of dealing with Tyrian first. A crucial decision that ends up costing him his life. - While flawed in execution (Clover always felt a bit undercooked as a character to me), what makes the tragedy of the moment work is how this affects Qrow. With Clover, he had a source of real support and friendship pretty much devoid of any toxic masculinity. This death still matters because of how much he meant to Qrow and the potential repercussions this could have on him. I hope that this pays off in Volume 8 as we continue to see Qrow struggle with his poor self-image of being bad luck to his friends and loved ones vs using the advice he received from Clover to become a better man while giving Ruby and friends the guidance they need. -This death also continues the trend of the show treating certain supporting characters less like their own self-sustaining, well-rounded characters and more like plot devices, sources of (for a lack of a better word) support for the evolution/progression/development of our main roster of characters (mainly Team RWBY, their friends, and several villains). I don’t consider this a criticism of RWBY, just a neutral observation. -Side-bar: I kinda dig the angle of treating Tyrian not just as a recurring enemy, but a full-blown nemesis for Qrow. -So far, it seems like this volume is going to use Winter and Penny to explore a murkier side of these themes. We're beginning to see a payoff to that scene at Schnee manor that contrasts their characters: Penny is a robot that believes in following your heart, Winter is a human who believes in behaving as in control of your emotions as possible. While they're still going through with orders, they're both clearly uncomfortable with the decisions they're making, though we'll see how all of this works out in the finale... -I love how Penny and Ruby are these super wholesome characters who get sassy when they're mad.

When the music changes on the Blake and Yang zoom in, I got so hyped! Also I’ve been pondering something. Semblances are special abilities for specific people. Like we’ve seen, some are hereditary, and others are confirmed during harsh conditions or randomly even. Mercury’s was even taken from him. But is it possible to have more than one? Given that it’s a “personal power” and depends on each user, is it possible to develop another one? Or even change yours currently? For example, if Jaune practiced enough, could he use magnetic forces like Pyrrah since her aura unlocked his? Could Qrow’s bad luck turn good if he only believed it is? If he dropped his cynicism, would he be one step closer to turning his luck around?

I blame Clover, he shouldn't have start stuff with Qrow while dealing with Tyrian, he killed himself.

Just like Lionheart's " cowardly Lion" moment and Ironwood's "heartless Tinman" moment, Qrow has his "brainless Scarecrow" moment.

Just came here to say the finale is nuts but it also made me feel like this show needs longer volumes... But yeah this volume as a whole is just crazy good and I recommend not trying to compare previous volumes too much because they can't be compared since this show has evolved so much and I'm so mad I missed out on the start of RWBY and only found out about it when Volume 5 had ended... Same goes with RvB, I had heard of it but never watched it until after it ended

Clover vs Tyrian vs Qrow is the most confusing fight I have ever seen.

Arnold I see your grief and dismay here. But you hit the nail on the head when you said "That's the worst thing". As a writer in Hollywood, I often ask myself, "What is the worst thing that could happen next?" Usually, that is what I write. The worst case scenario. Then I turn around, and write my way out. I hope that makes you feel better.

RWBY vs the Ace Ops was an amazing fight, and entirely possible because RWBY Exploited their infighting and worked together

Why did this reaction bring me closer to tears than actually watching him die?

Tbh, I already watched the episode, I just wanted to see his reaction of getting his emotions ripped apart.

This just got G R I M M, I'll let myself out. But the season finale is gonna be LITTT

I just want to point out that Clover owes Ironwood everything, so he follow orders completely. He was told Qrow is wanted, and so is Tyrian, so he's fighting them both. Since Tyrian was recently beaten, his aura is lower and I assume Clover prioritized Qrow as the immediate threat. Qrow naturally is fighting both, Tyrian because of their grudge and Clover since he won't let Qrow leave. Tyrian just loves chaos. Qrow only teamed with Tyrian because he want's to knock out Clover and then actually kill Tyrian. He doesn't plan for what happens, but he's been betrayed and isn't exactly thinking straight. As the audience, we have glimpses into things the characters don't, so we can say "Stop fighting and solve this at Atlas. Don't just follow orders!" but that's us, not them. The characters all think they're in the right, so they are fighting to win. We just simply see the bigger picture. (Also I'm constantly curious how Arnold's neighbor's don't think he's dying once a week thirteen weeks a year when the episodes come out. Those screams are really loud)

If you watch the fight you can tell Qrow tried to fight on Clover’s side at first. He only “teamed up” with Tyrian after Clover kept attacking him. It’s not his fault; it’s Clover’s.

Well.... tbh Arguments: -Clover was attacking Qrow and ignoring Tyrion -OBVIOUSLY Tyrion is waaay more dangerous, if left alive -Clover even chose to leave his back to Tyrion, an professional assassin, to fight Qrow. HE LEFT HIS BACK TO TYRION AND CHOSE TO FIGHT QROW -If Qrow kept fighting Tyrion, Clover would just keep interrupting Qrow's attacks which could really put Qrow in danger -Tyrion got into Qrow's head, making him feels like Tyrion is just waiting for Clover to be "put to sleep" to continue their fight Plus most of the attacks towards Clover was by Qrow, and Tyrion was mostly a"support", that backstab was not expected by anyone at all, not even the viewers

the fights in this volume are so well done Rest In Peace Clover, dude was really doing well against Crow and Tyrian (With a freaking fishing rod!)

The saddest part is that Qrow can't blame his bad luck cuz it was negated by Clover's good luck

"Clover was the only thing stabilizing him. Whether it was the semblance or their friendship." I think saying this undermines all of Qrow's efforts. I do understand that Clover did have his own contribution, but saying that Clover single-handedly "rehabilitated" Qrow undermines Qrow's story arc thus far. I do believe that Clover's death and Qrow's hand in it will surely affect Qrow. But sending him off the wagon and going further deep in the abyss would be too unfortunate and not be a good route narratively IMO. It is powerful and all that, but it's too... predictable..? I just had too much of "self-loathing Qrow", and receiving a much more potent dose of that is not ideal. It would be "boring". I'd rather have a man who struggles with his depression yet still tries hard to fight it. Using Clover's death to maintain his focus and achieve his goal - avenge Clover by killing Ironwood. Going off the wagon once of twice is acceptable at this point, but going full blown drunk and having a "pity-party"? That's absurd and not entertaining.

i feel like that the words Clover said before Tyrian stabbed him sounded like Qrow and his tricky relationship with Ozpin, he trusted ozpin with his life, and he wanted to trust ozpin after the truth came out.

can we talk about the fucking sound design when ruby says "you were, but then you trained us"? this whole episode was not just an animation masterpiece, but a sound design masterpiece.
