My feelings about him literally went from “god no you’re kinda annoying” to “I love you so much.” I’m happy he got the development and I understand him a bit more. He really just needed some love :(
Whitley acted put of spite for his sisters who left him with a drunk recluse and a greedy racist too busy for his family. Please point me to when he did anything wrong.
@@ImStrange_ And this should *not* turn into a blame game towards Winter or Weiss either, neither of them deserve any scorn for getting themselves out of an abusive situation, only the parents are to blame for anything
Me too! I was like "Wait! Weiss has a brother? She never told anyone-oh my goodness I love him!" Majority of fandom "I hate him." Me: What did he do? I'm usually chill, but when it comes to Whitley, I get real defensive for some reason. 😅
I don't know why people hate Whitley. The moment I saw him I saw a boy who was left alone with no love. Weiss had Winter. Who did he have? His sisters left him with an abusive father and a mother that didn't even stick around. Yeah, I'd be bitter. He didn't want her to lose her position as heiress either. If you zoom in where Jacques opens the door, he's in shock. Then he warns her that rebelling father was only going to be harder on her. He was trying to protect her. Also, no one noticing how he supported Weiss when she sang the song that was literally her first step of rebelling by standing and clapping. All while their father was giving Weiss the look. If he didn't care, he would have remained seated with his father. No, I'm sorry, Whitley might not be perfect, but he's a greater victim then Weiss. Also, Weiss didn't act much differently in Volume 1. Where were her haters? Ok I'll stop. I'm sorry, I went on a rant, but it needed to be said.
It’s because despite his up-bringing he is still responsible for his own actions and how he treats others. Just because my childhood was harsh and my dad was a prick doesn’t mean I have an excuse to treat others like that. And just LOOK at the first scene. What’s the first thing he says when seeing Weiss again? He made ALL of their problems about HIMSELF. He was still being a brat. It’s pretty obvious why people disliked him at first. Not whatever the hell the other guy here was saying… Of course, he redeems himself and EVERYONE in the fan base loves him now. So it’s all good. And Weiss doesn’t have any vocal haters for her V1 actions because she too redeems herself… Rather… fast… TOO fast, if you ask me. Weiss was a jerk for like 3-4 episodes before she changed. Whitely was a brat for like… 3-4 VOLUMES before he straightened himself out. To conflate the two when one was a brat for *far* longer is a kinda shaky argument.
@@TheG119YT this would be a valid argument if weiss didn't go through the exact same fuckin thing and yet people were too stupid to realize maybe JUST MAYBE the teen left with an abusive father might be acting out
@@FranTheNerd It’s still a valid argument because I just explained that despite Whitney’s situation he is still responsible for his own actions and how he treats others. Yes, he was left all alone with one of the worst parents in RWBY that’s doesn’t give you an excuse to cry and moan and act like a victim, when you have every tool at your disposal to better yourself. No one liked it when Weiss cried victim when she mentioned how terrible her upbringing was because of the White Fang killing people she knew, people still called her racist. Whitley acts like V1 Weiss but 2x as bad and 10x as long and people make excuses out the ass for why he’s okay to act like that. Yeah… “JUST MAYBE the teen left with an abusive father might be acting out” so…. THAT gives him an excuse to act like he is a victim due to Jacques arrest and not even ASK if the unconscious girl with burn scars is okay? Don’t know what your daddy problems has to do with not even caring if a unconscious person is okay or not. Stop making excuses for Whitley being a shit. Kid needed to grow-up and he did.
@@TheG119YT every tool? No he didn't. Weiss's actions and winters meant he had no room to rebel or plan anything- even Klein was taken away due to Weiss's actions. The absolute worst thing Whitley did was try to Annoy weiss- where as if you look at his actions in context he's reaching out to Weiss constantly. He bragged about a parking space, and the was a big deal to him- he was DYING for anything he could get. He even helped Weiss stay out of trouble in volume 4 telling her when their father was upset and to avoid him. He needed people to give him a chance to grow outside of Jacques, not to grow up on his own. Let's also not downplay pointing a deadly weapon at a civilian SHE KNOWS HAS NO AURA WEISS Whitley quite literally did nothing other than be annoying
It's a shame that Whitley doesn't have more scenes. He is incredibly smart, perceptive, and really adept when it comes to tech. Would definitely love to see more of him in the future.
TBH I don’t really blame Whitley for how he behaved at the beginning. His father was a selfish prick, his mother was alcoholic and his sisters completely left him behind. Although it doesn’t really justify him it explains it a lot more. And I’m so happy that he is starting to get closer to his family.
I know right. Weiss literally acted the same way and she didn’t care about Whitley at all, I still remember when Willow said to Weiss not to forget her brother, that line hit me hard cause Whitley was usually left at home with his parents, so he had to deal with his parents by himself, while Winter and Weiss were elsewhere, I honestly didn’t enjoy the scene where Weiss hugged Whitley, it seemed wholesome until you realise that Weiss only acknowledged Whitley just because he called a doctor for her friend, like jeez. He even asked what he could do to help when they arrived at the mansion, and Weiss literally told him to go to his room, then you skip a while forward and Whitley is literally coming up with all these strategies and has so much useful information that I’m honestly surprised why the writers gave him such little screentime, yeah he isn’t a major character, but he’s probably like one of the best minor characters in the series that they should spare some screentime for him, or at least tone down on the amount of characters present in this show, like yeah I don’t mind a big cast and all, but if you’re gonna have a big cast of characters then you’re gonna have to have some good screentime and line distributions between all of them, because Team RWBY has been getting barely any development while all the other characters are, like c’mon if you’re gonna have a main characters then at least give them decent attention and development
When we first met him he was only living life through his father's influence. In volume 8 we get to see him in a group of peers with good hearts, people he can be friends with, and we see the kind of person he always was meant to be.
This guy might have been a jerk in the series at first, but I'm glad to see him becoming a better man than his father. But he's gonna be depressed about hearing what happened to Weiss in Volume 9 or 10 on account that they were finally starting to get along.
He thankfully redeemed himself by not becoming the ”Noah” to his fathers “Gozaburo”… If you’re a Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan, you’ll know EXACTLY what I’m talking about here…!
‘Redeem’ would be the wrong word because it implied Whitley did something wrong and needed to see the error of his ways, but he didn’t do anything wrong. He was a victim of abuse and neglect whose personality was shaped by his experiences.
What's funny is if Weiss or anyone else just talked to him instead of treating him like dirt or ignoring him every conflict would have been resolved in 5 minutes. Weiss was kind of awful in Atlas now that I think about it.
The schnee siblings are the definition of don't judge a book by the cover...holy crap the development each one has is just..💔 those three * and momma schnee* deserves better then Jaqdouche
I love that Whitley come in to help with the SDC ships and when a Grimm is literal feet away from eating him he still remembers to finish the job before getting out of dodge. This dude might have been petty at first, but he's shown that just like his sisters, he's got the qualities of a great person
Tbh things wouldn’t have gone smoothly if it weren’t for him he carried some minor plot points in the volume and it wasn’t killing time too. Like the SDC city map layout.
