RWBY Volume 8 Episode 13 Review - Worthy of Loyalty 

Imagine Raven just drinking some tea, until suddenly her semblance is just like, “you know Yang and how you know where she is and basically everything about her status? Now you don’t.” Then Raven is like, “HOL UP WTF!”

Ironwood cried from his left eye since that was his human side. He cared for Winter on a personal level and I think he was saddened that his mind was driving him to fight her even if inside he didn’t want to. It’s just really sad tbh

Blake was so heartbroken and angry over Yang’s “death” that I honestly see her killing Neo despite not wanting to take anymore lives. Keep in kind that not even Adam made her this mad so I see Blake going for blood next episode.

I wasn’t expecting the jump-cut of Cinder, Neo, and Watts entering the control center to showing everyone dead. Anxiousness went 📈

Am I the only one who was in their feelings when a tear dropped from Ironwood. It felt like he was shredding the final piece of himself

To all the people who are worried that Yang died, don't worry there is no way in hell she is dead. She is a main character and the writers have said that before the team RWBY goes to Vacuo they will take a detour. That detour is likely at the bottom of the pit where Yang is.

I think it's pretty conclusive that Jaque is dead dead. The ground were he stood was smoking rubble.

I like the theory about Yang’s semblance affecting her aura level. It really makes sense to me.

Penny didn’t realize she still had the relic, she was wondering where Floating Array was before realizing it was in her robot body. Just before she looks back you can see her do her swoopy arm thing for when she deploys her weapon and then look confused when it hasn’t appeared.

Honestly I think the Bill theory is right. Because they make a purposeful cut to show the mug and remind us of this character.

I thought Cinder Fall was gonna fall, but instead she made a bunch of other people fall instead. I see how it is CRWBY. I see how it is. Also I think Penny looking towards her back and getting hit by Cinder was her forgetting that she doesn't have access to Floating Array anymore now that she's a real girl.

I want to point out, Yang was the PERFECT person to fall off, from a plot perspective. Let me explain. The pathways and gates are golden. The particale effects are golden as well. Let's say Blake fell off instead. If, when she reached the 'edge' of the realm, the dust effect was purple, we can conclude that she did die. If it was yellow, we can conclude that something else is going on. But, with Yang, who's Aura is yellow, we won't know until we are shown it. A clever way to play on our emotions!

I feel like Yang's Semblance turns her into a berserker, in that she gains a massive boost to her dps, at the sacrifice of temporarily turning herself into a glass cannon.

I honestly keep forgetting about Pietro and Maria. I'm so curious when they'll show back up. Preflexes honestly would have been super useful in this realm and against Neo.

You missed the part where Ruby was in the process of activating her Silver Eyes while Neo snuck up on her

This sets up Raven's return either in the final or next vol because she defiantly would sense her daughter's "death".

When i saw yang fall my heart dropped and when i saw blake cry i broke down

I'm split between heartbreak for Yang and Team RWBY, and pride for the villains pulling off such a genius counterplay. Just... everything hurts...

The only thing I'm looking forward to is Murderofbirds' reaction to this episode. 😲 I can only hope he got a good amount of tissues by his side. 😭

I can only imagine how Tai is going to feel

I'd say this episode dispels the idea that breaking Ironwood's aura would bring him back to his senses. Perhaps his ideas were being affected by Mettle, but they were his ideas to begin with.

We haven’t seen Blake this broken since Volume 2 when she wasn’t sleeping or eating. I was going to say that maybe Ruby would tell Neo the truth about how and why Roman died. But now, I think it’s too late and doesn’t seem to care anymore

Yang in the end of volume 8 "I Have Been Falling For 30 Minutes!"

So many problems would have been avoided if Team RWBY had said "oh don't forget some safety railings". It is also kind of ironic that in Neo's quest for revenge, she's set Blake on the same path of vengeance by "killing" Yang.

I think it’d be interesting if Yang just straight up died there but I kinda doubt it considering the show is called rwby. If the show was called Ruby I could see it happening but since Yang’s name is actually in the title I kinda doubt she or any member of RWBY would die. At least not until the end of the show. I mean I guess it’s not impossible she’ll die maybe they’ll find someone else to be the y in rwby. Either way I’m really interested to see what’ll happen next. Speaking of people potentially dying please don’t let penny die I mean she just became a real girl.

I haven’t felt this legitimate anxious about a show since watching volume 3... I’m so scared for the finale

Man . . . this episode was a gut punch. Plain and simple. Also can we talk about all of the "deaths"? Cinder knocked a whole bunch off the platform. Yang effectively fell to her death. Jacques got killed by Ironwood. Penny has a high chance of not only dying next episode but losing her Maiden Power. Also why am I worried Ironwood will kill Winter next? And let's not forget that horde of Grimm going towards our heroes. Also I love Harriet's reasoning for the bomb "Clover would see it through." And I'm thinking . . . luv. Clover would of defected if he were still alive lol. Clover like Winter followed orders to a point, but not to insanity.

Imagine how incredibly awful it would feel to find out your mother was likely taken and turned into a mindless Grimm, and *then* having your sister take a hit for you and fall into the unknown abyss not long after

If Yang did die this would be the first major death since Pyrrha's death in vol 3.

Neo will not find out what happened to Roman. Ruby is in no mood to converse with our little ice cream girl, because as far as Ruby is concerned Neo just killed Yang. There is no room for Ruby to try and talk Neo down they are both fully invested in this fight.

Skylight here again. I was shocked about Yang but you did call it. So far no one else had fallen off yet but there's still one episode left in the volume

This episode was so scary and excited. I have calmed down after watching some other reviews that are around Yang. I really hope Yang is alive. 😭

My theory is that when you fall you get scattered somewhere between atlas and Vacuo because the staff of creation cannot destroy. Therfore Yang is auraless and lost in between kingdoms and now she is forced to fight her way to vacuo.

Ok ok ok now it literally written in the sky that the rest of Team RWBY are going to fall, Blake will fall because like Harriet, she won't be able to snap out of her rage, Weiss will fall because she will be tired and Cinder will make her fall and Ruby, I think she will have a mental breakdown and jump to be with her team forever. Ironwood will fall down because Qrow, upon learning that his nieces have disappear into the void, will take James with him. Harriet, Vine and Elm: are dead. I think Team JNPR, Emerald, Winter, Maria and Pietro will survive and go to Vacuo, just like the Happy Huntresses(and Robin). Finally, my prediction for Volume 9, I think that Team RWBY, Qrow and Ironwood will be in different places in the history of Remnant and will have to find a way back where they come from and a way to each other and during so, the situations they are going to be in will change them for the better or the worse, to know we'll have to wait. On a side note, @Phoenix/Night, everytime that I watch one of your videos, you are able to make my emotions go awry with the words and the tone of voice that you use can be quite ominous, it's refreshing and different. Continue to make more videos, they are great.

I really hope to see Tai save Yang. I mean he cares about her and we don't know what is Tai's semblance.....

Remember when we thought this was going to be Salem's volume, Okay whatever

one thing you don't seem to cover is while penny used the maiden powers quickly for a replacement to her thrusters, she didn't immediately remember the fact she no longer had Floating Array. The picture you have of Penny looking at the staff I believe is when she was looking behind to notice the missing weapon as just moments before her movements were similar to when she used the weapon in the past. though after this she does use her maiden powers to make a new set.

I have a theory about yang falling and disappearing, it might be similar to Thor: ragnarok, where Thor and Loki were pushed out of the bifrost by hela, which sent them to the garbage planet, yang could possibly be sent somewhere random in remnant

Dude when Salem hears about the relic of knowledge being reacquired by cinder she’s gonna be relieved but if Salem finds out Cinder used it for reconnaissance, Cinder is gonna have to make her a new relic outta scratch lmao. But I think cinder is gonna lie about team RWBY using it and watts is gonna stay silent out of respect for Cinders change in attitude towards him. Also Neo is gonna stay silent cause.. yeah. Also the theory about them going through time if they fall into the waypoint abyss, if they go back in time far enough (say 100 years) and are physically manifested and leave the relic of knowledge somewhere and then pick it up when they return to the present, wouldn’t the relics questions reset? Also I know that kind of a paradox because there will technically be two relic of knowledge from volume 1 to 8 but then again there are multiple dimensions. Lastly, the abyss most likely wouldn’t destroy anything because if it did then why not just throw a relic into the void. A relic would be permanently destroyed and Salem would have to search for another occupation lmao.

I think Yang’s semblance works like sacrificing aura for power. Her anger is what actives it usually but to gain that power she needs to give up some of that defense. Like trading in defense for offense

I know for a fact that Yang isn't really dead lol. Its just another fake out like with Weiss in Volume 5. Raven would save Yang just in time.

I don't think Yang disintegrated. To me it looked more like she was consumed by the darkness, like falling to a black space. But then her aura colour was trailed with her disappearance and that doesn't seem to do much with being transported.

Even when she's being smart, Cinder is still an idiot. If she destroys the realm with her attacks she'll be trap with them forever. The single constant about her character baring her selfishness and typical awful self, it's that she ruins everything.

So, I’m currently rewatching this episode and analyzing after watching this video, and I noticed that Ruby’s eyes shine a tad brighter trying to take out Cinder before Neo lunges at her. So she tried to use her silver eyes 😔 maybe with that she could’ve blinded everyone else around her and that could’ve saved Yang? I’m just in disbelief that yang fell, but also expected it. I do feel like she will come back, but it just won’t be the same

While I think Yang will make it out of this sooner or later, I'd like to see some time pass before her return. Like, maybe one season. Keep us waiting. YOOO! When when Blake and Yang reunite... be still, my romantic heart. 😭

I think if yang is alive there are 2 options for that. 1 She is saved by something in that relm. 2 she finds the atlas vault as the door is was never closed and leaves

I have to say, that last question to Jinn was very anti climactic and sad.

I have a feeling that once all of Team RWBY falls, that they traveled to the past and we will see an older Team RWBY who had been waiting for them and it will be them who defeat the Grimm forces attacking their friends....we will not see them doing this until Cinder comes through the portal with the relics in hand to bask in the horrifying looks of Ruby's Friends only to have an older Team RWBY stepping out of the sand storm and end the season with them saying "Surprise to see us?"

During the fight between Penny and Cinder, I don’t think Penny looked behind her because she had the relic... You can see before she looked back, she moved her arms up which is what she normally does to allow her floating array to get in fighting position. She looks behind her, realizing that her swords aren’t there and that she doesn’t have her weapon. I’m actually glad I caught that haha

Wait I thought what happened to Roman was common knowledge. He was eaten by a Grimm. Neo was possibly the only other person of note who doesn't know this, because she was blown off the surface of the airship by a strong gust of wind beforehand.

Yeah, I'm thinking Ironwood was always a Nutcase It's just that he had been under control till he was pushed over the edge Edit: Salem won't be appearing again yet, remember that Hazel had said "The longest she was dead was no longer than a few hours" That would mean depending how bad Salem died it would take longer for her to fully Regenerate Hazel's fist based attacks were not enough to slow her Regen time, but what Hazel did before Oscar used the cane and the Magic that Oscar fired out most likely delayed Salem from regenerating Or maybe her body in Atlas was like a Type of deal where if her body is fully destroyed in one spot she regenerates through a Mist that takes a long time to pull the limbs back together By the way, Roosterteeth had already said that they'd not kill off team RWBY I think what had happen there was Yang was pulled into another World that is beyond the darkness Or maybe…………the God of Light saved her ?

So... Something I haven't heard talked about with regard to Djinn. She stated that she is capable of answering 3 questions every 100yrs. There has been ZERO mention of WHEN that 100yr cooldown starts. My thinking is that her ability is just on a rolling 100yr timer, meaning that regadless of whether questions are asked.. every 100yrs it is reset. In theory, the 100yrs could be up relatively soon. Also, I am completely on board with the theory that Raven is forced to choose between staying hidden with maiden powers, or jumping into the fray to save Yang. Also, with regard to your Adam/Yang Vol 3 interaction. I think it was a case of Yang all ready have exhausted herself over the course of the battle. I am inclined to think that Yangs aura was sufficiently weakened that when Adam (appeared to have) used Moonslice... It was sufficient to obliterate her aura and sever her arm. In fact, this is mentioned in Adam Taurus's wiki. So bears consideration.

Ngl I kinda thought they were going to give Jacques a redemption arc, but I guess not Ironwood killed that possibility before it could be released. Honestly I’m disappointed in Neo because she didn’t use the last question on something that would’ve worked for her... like asking about Roman or asking for herself where Ruby was. Unfortunately we’ll never know what actually happened to Roman because the Celestial being that could’ve answered this has run out of questions. I honestly think that it is fitting for Watts to fall with Atlas because he’s pretty much done everything that he’s always wanted to do. On the topic of Team FNKI, I really really hope that they are able to get out of Atlas because Neon is so precious and needs to survive..... same with Yang. I really really really hope that she doesn’t actually die because she is one of my favorite characters and honestly I see a lot of Yang in myself and I would absolutely hate for her to die this soon especially with an obvious closeness to Bumblebee being cannon. I literally was in shock for the majority of the episode after Yang fell. I really hope that none of Team RWBY and friends dies, but unfortunately I do understand the idea of Winter and Ironwood both dying together. In Vacuo though I would love to see Team CFVY, SSSNN, the headmaster, etc coming to the rescue from the sudden spike of people out of nowhere

What if turns out that the dimension is more of a quick bridge way to Vacuo and falling could lead to you being stranded somewhere in Remnant between the Kingdom of Mantle and The Kingdom of Vacuo, leading to volume 9 being team RWBY regrouping and traveling to Vacuo from were they arrive after falling. Basically another travel break like when we had Volume 4 they where traveling to haven academy and volume 6 when they travelled to Atlas. So volume 10 & 11 could be all about Vacuo and Volume 12 could be the Final Volume. This is just my Theory and it's mostly just me guessing.

Neo is pretty dumb, I must admit. And right now I'm really sick of Cinders character, this should of been Salem volume to shine as the big bad. Instead she's been nerfed and taken out until god knows when

If I recall, Ruby said to Ambrosias in the previous episode that he can't destroy, only create. If that is so and the mentioning of the of the girl who fell through the earth fairytale (which I think is based off Alice in Wonderland because Alice fell down a rabbit hole to reach Wonderland) means anything, its that Yang isn't entirely dead, yet. Mostly she and the rest of team RWBY will end in either some sort of alternate reality or find themselves trapped in time, forced to watch events prior to the series unravel such as the rise and fall of Team STRQ.

Out of everyone that could fall!! It had to be YANG!!!??!! GOD DAMN IT!!!! They just had to ruin Bumbelbee did they.... this volume is such a heart breaker

My thoughts on a few points: *As Ironwood and Jacques are chatting in the prison cells, and as seen in the Vault at the end of the episode, Ironwood still seems as determined as ever to get the Staff of Creation and save Atlas his way. This raises a bit of confusion, since we saw his aura drop in the last chapter, so his semblance Should no longer be in affect. However, I think I have an idea to explain why it still seems to be in effect. Perhaps while his semblance is in effect, it acts like a poison, eating away at his mind and his sanity, so that even after his aura drops, his mind has already been so permanently damaged that there’s nothing left of who he was before to change his path, and doing that one thing he was focused on is all that he knows. *While Raven is unable to open portals across realms, it may still be possible for her to intervene with a small stretch of the imagination. Both of the times so far that we’ve seen the inside of a vault, all we have seen is the same landscape stretching out to the horizon, but there was never any direct indication that there was a limit to the size of the space that these vaults occupy. What if, in reality, all four of the vaults, as well as the network of portals that Ambrosius created, are all a part of the same realm, occupying the same space, just unfathomably distant from each other on some sort of floating islands similar to Minecraft’s End dimension, but carefully placed by the Gods either far enough apart that flying between them would be impossible by any mortal, magical or mechanical means, or each surrounded by its own barrier while still being in the same realm, like bubbles floating in an endless void, with Ambrosius’ portal network existing somewhere in that void between them. If this were the case, and Yang were simply endlessly falling into the void, it would theoretically still be possible for Raven to save Yang by entering a vault with Qrow or Taiyang, creating a portal to Yang, grabbing her, and opening a portal back to whomever she entered the vault with. I know it’s one hell of a stretch, but I don’t recall any mention of anything that would rule this theory out. *Using this same logic, it may also be possible to imprison Salem, although making this imprisonment permanent may be a bit more difficult than I initially thought (I recalled Raven and Yang’s conversation at the end of Volume 5 having taken place inside the vault, and Raven using a portal to exit rather than the door, which was the basis for my initial theory on how it would be possible for her to rescue Yang, which I then had to rethink, leading to my Connected Vaults theory). If it were possible to somehow lure Salem into one of these portals and then seal all of the vaults, as well as closing Ambrosius’ portals into the vault realm, Salem would have no means of exiting and would be effectively imprisoned for all eternity, or unless she were to somehow make it to a vault door that were later foolishly unlocked. Even if the remaining two relics weren’t retrieved first, Ambrosius would be the only one, to our knowledge, capable of creating portals into this space, so it would be impossible for Salem to either return using one of the remaining relics in the vaults, if she were ever to reach one of them, or for her to bring all of them together.

I'm just scared for Neo shes my reason to care so without her ill just wait a week to watch instead of paying. So please Neo survive

Another note: If yang doesn’t die physically, a part of what makes her yang would still die if we’re going with the theory that the “The girl who fell through the world” story was direct foreshadowing. Yang wouldn’t come back the same...

Everyone keeps mentioning the "falling" in the intro, but no one has mentioned or noticed... they're actually sinking. The light rings all over them are very very reminiscent to Salem's plunge into the pools of life.... I still think that's significant

Getting Raven back at this point, even if Raven could create a portal to wherever Yang is, would be a complete plot voucher. Maybe in the next volume they could say that Raven saw Ruby's message and portaled herself to Atlas and was in the pocket dimension at the time Yang fell... but doing it now would be completely shitty writing.

I’m afraid that Qrow, Robyn and everyone else in the ships won’t be able to go through a portal and therefore sip out of the current cast for the next volume, unless they do get through a portal

The yang graphic foreshadowed that something would happen to yang but she wouldn't be dead

I actually can't believe Ironwood used a BFG shot on Jacques of all people.

OK but with the portals being one way, now that cinder is in the vault she likely physically can't go back to get watts, either leading to his death or later anger from watts

Theory: If Ozma/Ozpin didn’t create the vaults, then maybe it was the God Of Light, as it was he who told Ozma about the Relics in the first place. This would co-inside that, If someone was to fall through the vaults, that they could end up in the Grimm pools at the home of the God Of Darkness. Then by the time Ruby & Salem fight again, She will have manipulated Yang in to becoming another variation of the Human Grimm, just like Summer. This would then force Ruby to choose to either try to save her family, or join them. This would explain how Yang would change, after falling like the girl in the fairytale.

What if falling changes someone's personality? It could be through magic or some adventure but in "The Girl Who Fell Through the World" it said she wasn't the same person.

....okay hearing Yang falling into the abyss is making me think of something....strange, something along the lines of a polar opposite called Ying?

Qrow should be able to beat Harriet. I mean his team was said to be the Star team of Ozpin. So much so he entrusted them with the truth, and we all know that is a pretty big deal. Then he also entrusted Qrow and Raven with his magic, which is even a bigger deal. He absolutely toyed with winter while he was drunk and seem to not even fear her a little. Ironwood was VERY worried when he thought Qrow was about to attack him. He was beating Tyrian before Ruby messed everything up, someone who soloed team jnpr and Ruby like it was nothing. Someone who also battled maidens on a regular. Mercury fled at the sight of him, someone who beat coco and daichi. “Qrow's skills and prowess as a legendary Huntsman is in fact a worldwide, publicly known fact, to the point where Qrow is even seen as a celebrity.” Was said in The Grimm campaign. And Eddie said that the world building and everything is canon unless he fucked something up. All and all Qrow should win this quite easily.

I have a feeling Yang is bouncing around time and space, and it is possible that volume 9 is going to be very critical to Team RWBY's growth and learn more about Team STRQ's past and final mission.
