For the last 2 years my track car has been an 07 yaris hatch that is modified to within an inch of its life. but is it faster than my daily driver? this video is the first time my 2013 FRS has been to Buttonwillow since 2019. so it's time to find out if i've improved as driver, or if the car i built is really good... or both.

Gotta keep going. It's a little disheartening to see how much further ahead the rest of street class though 🥲

@@RassoolRacing Considering how much you improved towards the end I doubt that will be the case for much longer 😏.

Having raced an 86 before and now owning a Echo hatchback, I can see the appeal of tracking the 86, but loving the stress free life of going 10/10s in the Yaris. If I was in your position, I'd start on the 86 build with what you've learned on the Yaris. Just don't go too far with it, leave the interior, AC etc. The 86 with basic mods and an oil cooler is a mega fun and competitive track car. Although I love the Yaris and found your channel for the Yaris, I think the 86 would be a more satisfying track car to master. Keep up the good content.

Own a 2008 hatch. I have TRD Drop Springs TRD Rear Sway TRD Short Shift Kit (on trans) TRD Axel Back Exhaust Fujita F5 C/A Intake Tire Rack Wheel and Tires set (on a budget when I first purchased but I wrapped in BFGs) Rockford Fosgate Sound (no subs) Pioneer Touchscreen Going to get the pulley kit you listed and the oil cooler. Don’t necessarily need but I like the mods. Glad to finally see someone in the states regularly vlogging the Yaris! Immediately subbed. 😂

I just got the RS Vitz 2008 intake manifold PN:17101-21070, Its a bit shorter and better for high rpm, they can reflash the ecu for 7.5Krpm limit and with the shorter RS intake this could help the track times in the Yari. Another awesome episode, cool to hear how you are learing and growing as a race car driver, can't wait to do some Autocross, this is inspiring.

ECU is already reflashed for 7.5k rpm thanks to Chris Taylor Racing. Good to know about the shorter intake manifold though

@@RassoolRacing Ooh nice the tunes still out of my budget for now, and the closest place doing it is in Thailand for me, I have to exhange ecu. You can get the manifold at the wreckers on some of the corolla variants we found not just the RS. I just finished sanding and porting the one I bought for when I find a 2rz-fe throttle body at the wreckers, Got the 1zz-fe injectors and changed to colder plugs like you already

@@RassoolRacing So the RS intake manifold requires the different heater hose hard line that runs behind the manifold. Can't just swap her..Im going back to the wreckers to find the correct part.

@@RassoolRacing i sometimes feel like carb legal is my limiting factor. i just need to buy a home with some actual space and park a track car and tow vehicle in the backyard.

@@styledliving as a builder maybe, but with a lot of the tried and true track cars, there are plenty of people that go quickly with the emissions equipment intact. If you're looking to improve as a driver, you can do that in alomst any car. If you're looking to learn to build a track/road car, emissions equipement makes a little bit a of a difference, but its different on each car. Theres certainly not much point in me having a catless Yaris for instance.

Us fwd guys tend to go pedal to the absolute metal since momentum drivers need to do so. I bring a leaf blower to all track events now due to the spectacular crashes that happen. I have yet to get used to my GSF due to racing the Camry for so long so I totally get how you feel. My transition started with a MR2 Spyder so that was more dial it back of my habits since driving characteristics were similar. Hoping to further my experience in the F this year and see you at the track more
@RassoolRacing
@RassoolRacing Год назад
Interesting. Can you elaborate more on the mr2 having similar driving characteristics? I've always fantasized about grabbing an AW11 since I could run a bunch of the Yaris parts in it.

@@RassoolRacing of course. Annants car we codrove and my style of super late brake and lift off oversteer in fwd translated quite well to the mid engine platform. I would drive the Camry slightly past it's grip limits and end up in a spectacular spin if something happened but with the MRS I learned that it likes my style but power down almost all the time. That one spin I ever did was crazier but it took more pushing to do it

Happy to see the FRS is still in one piece. Would you have taken 1st place in the TRD series if you drove the FRS?
@RassoolRacing
@RassoolRacing Год назад
Lots of variables. I would have needed skinnier tires to run in enthusiast class. But with Adam and my times being so close throughout the year, and with the progress that I might have made with the FRS, 3rd place was entirely possible. Oh well. Now it's all about getting the Yaris to match/beat the frs's pace.

@@RassoolRacing classic. Just clear it. When it gets hot it throws a CEL. Really just means you’re driving fast. Lol
