Most excellent, thanks for putting this together! We had our Model Y test drive at the Tesla Fortitude Valley today, and I must say I was a tad less blown away than I wanted to be for a price difference of $30k + if we go ahead with our preorder and upgrade from our Hyundai Ioniq Electric 28kwh MY2019. Loved the assisted driving, didn't take long to get used to the feeling of that, and it was way smoother and more logical than the Ioniq and that's after driving the latter for over three years. Ride comfort and road feedback was noticeably worse than the Ioniq with its torsion bar suspension, I'm not sure why Tesla tunes these cars quite so firmly but some really like it I have read/seen/heard. Glad QLD got the second cheapest annual premium here in your research. Your parameters are almost identical to mine when getting insurance quotes, so this vid has been super helpful. One bizarre thing about the Model Y cabin was the floor design in the front passenger's seat. I get the floor has to be a bit raised for the skateboard under floor design vs traditional ICE vehicles, but my wife just couldn't get comfortable after a whole test drive of seat adjusting and repositioning. We even took our kids' bento style lunch boxes as they're always sliding around up the front whenever we head out with those little tackers; they've got to have their snack boxes! The boxes just didn't have anywhere they could comfortably fit except on the floor amongst the legroom (our current undesirable situation). I feel like the centre console up the front kind of wastes a great opportunity to have some open space in the centre similar to the Kia EV6 where a small bag (or in our case the aforementioned lunch boxes plus a cold bag, ice brick, and milks for the kiddos) could easily have fit. In the Models 3 and Y, this space is a solid and presumably mostly empty wall, and deep storage bins with little to no organisability to them. Just buckets to throw things in. We also occasionally have the odd kid drama where a cough gets out of hand and turns to possible oral projection... Having no glove box handle just seems like the strangest thing in the name of minimalism. And yes wifey tried the voice command and touch screen to open it. But in an emergency situation, like grabbing a chuck bag, every second is invaluable, and pushing a button then saying "open glovebox" and hoping it understands, or even tapping around a screen, just isn't as optimal as the split second of muscle memory spent to reach out and physically open the thing. We would just keep the bag out of the glovebox I guess 🤔 Anyway, heaps to consider, many pros and cons, but might just suck it up and lose the $350 to save tens of thousands in price difference and keep the Ioniq. We'll soon see. Hope someone enjoyed my rant 😁👍
Hi Tom, Thanks for your great work for the cause! Have you checked Rollin’ Insurance? I have my 2021 M3 LR insured for under $66 per month with $800 excess. Amazing customer service during claim .
Yes, I think they were taken over by NRMA and renamed. I had a very good experience with a claim. They even paid for redoing of the ceramic paint protection. I am really baffled how cheap it is.
I just received an online quote from RACQ for the Model Y RWD at $955 and some cents. 60+, garaged in Brisbane, rating 1, no claims, multiple policy discount.
You can set agreed value to whatever you want with some insurance companies as long as you can justify it, expect to pay a premium if you raise it much above retail though.
Budget Direct is cheap for a reason… most “no fault” claims you need to pay excess for and they lower your NCD. Basically, they told me that unless they can claim against another insurance company, contrary to their PDS, you need to pay.
The delta between RWD and P for Model 3 insurance premiums is roughly in line with their MSRP difference so I’m hoping that Model Y will also be structured in a similar way
Finally got the model 3 LR (one of the lucky ones to get the shipment in June), glad my wife works for an insurance broker the insurance was higher than expected when compared to the Audi Rs3 that i had but still it is a new game with limited companies to bargain / support the tesla
@@LudicrousFeed was about 900 per year, unlimited car hirer, choice of repairs (not like many choices haha) and all the other bells and whistles.. thats a staff discount.
@@LudicrousFeed I will definitely be tuning in for that. Specifically keen to learn of any space reconfiguring devices. Seems a waste of such glorious open space to not have slightly more places to store bits and pieces more neatly.
@@SirDragonClaw Tessories are great for a lot of Tesla accessories and they dispatch from Sydney usually by next business day, meaning it will only be a couple of days to get to you.
