Ludicrous Feed is a Sydney-based RU-vid channel that started in 2018 after Tom purchased his Tesla Model S. He wanted to show the reality of Australian daily life with his family and an electric vehicle. Tom provides straightforward candid insights into key issues around EV adoption such as vehicle range, charging infrastructure and road trip planning. The weekly live stream is an opportunity for industry guests to directly engage with audience members from the EV community. Tom also has a Tesla Powerwall 2 coupled with rooftop solar and has reviewed many other electric vehicles for the channel including brands such as Tesla, BYD, Polestar, Volvo, MG, Hyundai, Genesis, Kia and Cupra.
You have to recognise exactly when the HUD ADAS features go from green (engaged) to white (dropped out) WITHOUT WARNING. I've found that the ACC seems to get 'distracted' and be slow to resume/keep up........ very human 😊. A digital dropout ???. It has stalks AND ON THE CORRECT SIDE!!!. Wow. Better quality, quieter and more comfortable than that other brand ....ALSO.
@@LudicrousFeed That was a cash price , our travel agent usually give my parents a super discount once a year considering parents fly to china few times a yr on business but I think the oringinal price per person was about $ 2800 for Jun 24 departure.
I concur with the ADAS improvements. With the last update, I'm so happy that the speed sign warnings can be turned off permanently now. My main remaining gripe is that wireless Android Auto can cut in and out. Otherwise, very pleased with my Seal.
I own a Seal U 2024 and what I can say is that the Infotainment system is great, for me at least, since I am a software engineer and I can install any app from the App Store. I even have ps2 games and a controller to play with it while charging. I can watch tv and use native apple music, waze with splitscreen, which is way better than using Apple CarPlay
We where talking about vampire drain during parking and it hit me that the doesn’t seem to suffer from this like the teslas and others. How’s yours doing?
@@LudicrousFeed thanks for the comment. I understand, the Shark certainly looks like it could propel the BYD brand in Aus and certainly shift perception toward Chinese cars
Ever ran into rapid gate when the fastcharging drops to 80 from 150 when the battery hits 52C? Haven’t tested it fully in mine yet but seen some reviewers noticing this. Agree with you on the sound, it needs more clarity and precense in mids and highs. Lane keeping is ok but as a previous tesla owner I totaly agree with you. Highway no problems for me but yeah others roads are hit or miss.
@@LudicrousFeed Yeah I will go on a long trip next week and will test on the Ionity 400kW chargers, over powered yes sir. Seen car pulling 152-153 and reporting 149,2 into battery for a 25% charge so no way near getting hot during such a short charge session. My v3/v4 was fix with the 1.1 release so maby the hardware was already there. 1.2 now here in Sweden so just got the wireless apple car play, 🥳
I notice that few people ever comment on this but an absolute deal breaker for me in not getting a Tesla Model 3 was the lack of a front camera!! Further the lack of indicator stalks and a front panel while not deal breakers pushed me to get the Seal Premium which has all these things and more (HUD). The only things I prefer about the Tesla are its auto-park and FSD both which are unavailable in the Seal.
I like the BYD offerings in Australia and would almost certainly buy one if all I wanted was a car with an electric motor. The thing is that I want to purchase more than just a plain EV powered car. I want the technology that Tesla’s offer and really, no one else is even close in that regard.
I had my 3 month service 2 months ago and I am still chasing up weekly for a warranty fix (couple of hardware issues). It’s great that most people’s experience with their seal has been positive. But when you actually have a problem with your seal, their communication is horrendous.
Wow! nicely summarized on what to prepare for long journeys 1. 10 amp slow charger 2. type 2 cable 3. type 1 to type 2 adapter 4. fronius 32 amp 5 pin charger 5. EV and Charge Fox RFID Charger cards 6. NRMA motoring --> 20% discount with Fox Chargers
thanks tom , heard your going to Edinburgh , huge family ties there. Very old city lots of history. most haunted city in the world check out the castle if you have time. safe trip.👍
BYD ICC uses 1 front camera and 3 mmWave radar sensors with less than 10TOPS processing power. It’s not their latest Dipilot system but definitely good enough at this price range.
Good to hear that there are no regrets Tom :) I bought my Performance knowing about the Telsa Supercharger network issue, it wasn't a deal breaker then, but very glad to hear that it's going to be attended to. Charging by solar is good though our solar system is coming on 9 years old now, has paid for itself well & truly but would need an upgrade to be more efficient with the car charging. As it is, we have single phase wiring at home (coming on 70 year old house) & without rewiring the house, the best the installed wallcharger will do is about 4kw (better than the trickle charger) at 20amps, so not going to hit that 7kw max the Seal can take. Again, it's how the house is wired, a known issue, not a deal breaker & has never made me have to run down to a local DC charger. Just needs a bit of active manual monitoring during the day when working from home (eg., taking advantage of a daylight free period from my energy retailer) & setting up the midnight to 6am charge as needed. The only issue I have with the Seal isn't mine but that of my partner who is in the market for a car now that her Audi has had the last rites, but she won't look at an EV, despite her acknowledged comfort & performance of the Seal as a passenger, she wants gears, tactile dials & analogue speedo etc, not touchscreens & digital displays. That's another battle for another day, lol. So I knew what I was getting when I put the order in just before Christmas last year & how the car is 5 months later after delivery has only gotten better :) And when 2403 is installed & the Supercharging fix installed, it will be better again. Think of how many other cars you can hand on heart say are better 6 months after you bought them (without spending a lot of money in aftermarket parts), that would be a very small list
Fyi, 23MYLR (Aus) owner here. I charge my NCM daily from 65% to 75%. And on long trips goto no more than 90%. Whenever I go over 80% it will be used ASAP
@@LudicrousFeed oh sorry mate, I thought that was daughter. Great channel mate. Drove Atto 3 and Sea Lion hybrid. Sea Lion 🦁 amazing family car. Hybrid systems seamless and super quiet.
Great performance by Ray. He enters corner slowly and power out just past mid corners. didn't know you can drift at such low speed...good to know this.
Yes it's higher for non Tesla vehicles. Purchasing a membership brings it down to the same price as what Tesla owners pay. I've previously worked out if you charge at least 500kms worth at a Supercharger, then it's worth the price of membership
Glad you are still happy with the Seal, Tom. I just viewed the Sealion and am excited for the Sealion 7 to come. The one thing I liked in the Sealion interior over the Seal is that the driver’s display is in a proper visor rather than being plonked on top of the dash like an afterthought.
How much did you pay (including RTA 3% transfer fee) for your 2015 blue Model S when you bought it with 7,000 km done, in 2016? and how much would it have cost you if you bought the exact same car brand new from Tesla AU website?
if Zeekr AU give you a Zeekr X as a long term loan very soon, or they sell you a brand-new one at a huge-heavy discount, will you be selling this BYD Seal Premium? might be worth it, no point having 3+1 bEV’s of similar quality/level (+1 is the 2015 Model S you still own) at the same time in household with only 2 active drivers. treat the BYD Seal depreciation as cost to run the utube channel and that cost helped you get the Zeekr X and recent overseas trip in business class & accomodation & meal covered trip
(late June 2024) would purchase this bEV Ioniq6 if it was brand-new AU$44,990 driveaway (currently selling for AU$71,990 driveaway brand-new). AU$44,990 OTDP is about same price as a brand-new Subaru BRZ Coupe S automatic (ice) officially its AU$52,990 but with haggling can get $7,000 discounted
Lovely review, Tom! I've been checking out all your RU-vid videos, and I'm a big fan. I booked my BYD Seal Premium after seeing your reviews. Just like you, I went for the White and BYD Premium. Thanks for the detailed videos! :) Quick question: Can we remove the middle passenger headrest in the back? I didn't check this during my test drive here in India.
V2L is another huge plus of this vehicle. I had a 5-hour power outage this week and was able to power my living room as normal from my Seal and carry on with what I was doing, with TV etc. in the background (while the rest of the neighbourhood was in pitch-black darkness). V2L also means I've been able to get rid of all my gas gear and go fully electric (induction hob, lights, fridge, coffee machine) for day trips and car-camping. Although the car REALLY needs a 'CAMPING MODE' where it can continuously supply 12 VDC (for fridge) and 5 VDC (USB) when the car is locked/unattended - powered from the more efficient DC-DC converter rather than the inefficient DC-AC inverter. (Just having the V2L adapter plugged into the car, even with no 240VAC devices plugged in, uses ~2kWh per day, which is a high overhead when just charging a phone or running an efficient 240VAC/12VDC fridge).
Would you ever consider taking the car on a defensive and advanced driving course? It'd be a good way to demonstrate the safety features and dynamic abilities of current EVs. Highly recommend the one run by Driving Solutions at SMSP.
I took ownership of my premium a month ago, and was pretty ecstatic. My wife has the 2022 Tesla RWD. I love the aesthetic both exterior and interior. Its similar design to ICE makes it easier to use and the HUD is something i do like. The software is such a huge let down though. I feel like its such an integral part of the driving experience thats been completely neglected.
I have mine in Greece for 2 monthe and 4300kms. I have to say the same. Last week we took the 2403 update. Dont switch off nothing either. I enjoy the car everyday. With the update I felt it more good at handling. My longest journey was 450km, with speed from 130 to 170 per hour. Did one stop for 20min and off I go... With 42 deegres.. I want to have the lane keeping change as you mentioned and the navigation to take in considetarion the battery Level and the destination so it can tell you where to stop. Also as you said the roof here in Greece in hot summer dont getting hot.. Hope you get 11kw as we have here in Europe... Cheers from Greece. George

I am owning a BYD Dolphin since 10 months (23,000 km) and I am very impressed about the quality. My complaints are also the software and ADAS, which is quite over-sensitive. I heard, that the Seal is better. But I will try lane-keep-assist again after seeing your video.
My experience 5 months in with the seal premium is similar to yours. Now about 11000km on the clock as a daily commuter Wollongong to Sydney and my only real gripe (aside from the traffic sign alerts, thank god I will be able to turn that off permanently soon!) is also the ICC. It has most definitely improved significantly from the suicidal state it was in originally and I am comfortable enough to use it on a straightish road, but a big issue I still have is that when you change lanes with ICC on it will assertively turn the wheel to (over-)"correct" your position in the lane (and then complain that you're out of the lane when it does over-correct), so need to make sure I have a prepared grip on the wheel. Otherwise amazing car, and I hope they keep iterating on that ICC as it has a lot of potential.
My take on BYD is that it is also a political statement same way like Russian cars were decades ago. Just my feeling in current geopolitical environment.
