I was expecting a tougher start given the low compression values, did you have an upgraded starter or something? Hot start would have been a mess i guess?
It's been years, I no longer have the car. The starter was upgraded, the ECU remapped and the coils and leads upgraded. Can't remember exactly what. Wasted money. Had I known then what I know now, I'd have billet pro-ed it and probably still have it working today. Hot starts were ok-ish: 2/3 times it started every time :)
@@UzY3L Makes sense a i doubt you would have started hot with original ignition system. Haven't read much about billet. Mine is running great with no hot start regression so far but i only got 85k km. For that reason i'm going to stick with a standard starter.
@@VinsUplifting If the car's been treated right from the start, you're fine. Mine wasn't. Got it second hand with a blown engine. Changed two engines myself during ownership, before selling it and that was with pre-mixing and all the bells and whistles in extras, for engine longevity but sadly, both engines were themselves second-hand and had been treated poorly prior to my ownership. Billet Pro are aluminium housings and ceramic seals, essentially turning into the same engine as the 787B, half of it anyway; but it does fix all reliability issues, forever. We didn't get that setup on commercial models due to cost but man, was it a terrible idea to make iron housing for an engine with wild temperature fluctuations. We all know the result of this "brilliant" decision.
@@UzY3L Mine was quite a big gamble as there was no historic, no compression tests, nothing and i got it from a retailer so i couldn't even speak to previous owner! At the time i bought it i was advised if hot start is perfect (which it was) then go for it. So far so good. That sounds very good, i guess this road was far too expensive for commercial cars. I still think the renesis is not that bad if driven properly. You should definitely have gone with a brand new engine when you changed it.
@@VinsUplifting Lots of bad choices, hence why I said that given another chance and the same budget, I'd have billet pro-ed it and called it a day. No more pre-mixing, coils, starters and all that stuff. It'd just be a normal car but with a screaming rotary. But a pack of two housings + seals + shipping + tax + labor will set you back well over 10k. Glad yours is running good, they are fantastic cars.
For some reason, youtube chose to notify me today that I got a comment on this video. By "spiting oil" I mean leaking from the engine and also burning it: 1L/100Km or 235MPG of oil, if that helps
@@thisisyou420 Well, yes. But an ok-ish rotary will burn about 1L/1000Km. This was bleeding oil and burning 10x more. Most likely the seals and the housings were gone. There is only one way to never worry about shit like this in a rotary: billet pro. Fuck the iron block housing that Mazda made
So as I cant see I should buy new engine when this happen to me. RPM drops etc... What was that sound. Once I heard it too just after super cold night -5°C and while flooded engine. OBD scanner showed me its reving to 500RPM without me having turned key.
For some reason, youtube chose to notify me today that I got a comment on this video. The sounds are backfires (misfires on the RX8 are signaled immediately by a flashing "check engine" light) from all the gas escaping the seals and being thrown out the exhaust and catching fire. 500rpm at startup would be great, hehe. If only there were a starter that would go that fast, it would start any RX8 engine, even when in low compression and hot.
It's been years and had I known back then what I knew now... The MPG was off because the engine was broken. Engine load at idle was very high. Shortly after this video, the engine seized and would not turn over even after I dumped the clutch when having the car towed. The signs were there, I just didn't know how to read them
@@UzY3L Understand, yes because the most of them give up too easily. Sure a New Engine cost much Money, but its a beautiful Car. And I will not let my RX8 die like that! He has now 146K and the Engine still runs perfect
@@berufskampftrinker2792 It was my second engine. The money was gone. No sense to buy a third. If I ever get an RX8 again, first thing is I'm gonna billet pro it and use ceramic seals. You are lucky, enjoy your 8
