Ryan Adams. The man responsible for a 14 year old me getting into indie/alt music. Just cause of New York, New York and this one. Cannot believe that's been almost 10 years ago.
This song, and all of Gold, are so hard to listen to for me, because this is the album that helped me get through the passing of my grandma last year, so whenever I listen to that album, I instantly break into tears because of the nostalgia. Ugh.
Did I slip? I know I stumbled Did I trip? 'Cause I know I fell All's I know is I'll wake up here in my clothes tomorrow But oh, girl I wish I knew you well But oh, girl I wish I knew you well But I'm just sayin' hi, to your answering bell Did I run? I thought I was walkin' Through your inexhaustible gale The names are changed but the constellations Are still fallin' Oh girl, if you could only tell Oh girl, if you could only tell But I'm just sayin' hi Let your tears fall and touch my skin Then your thunderclouds could rage and wail I will collect them all for you in butterfly jars And oh girl, I'll build your wishing well Oh girl, I'll build your wishing well But I'm just sayin' hi, to your answering bell Did I sleep? 'Cause I musta been dreamin' Did I weep? 'Cause I cried like hell All's I want is your fortress of tears to crumble And oh girl, I'd tear 'em down myself And oh girl, the story's they could tell But I'm just sayin' hi
I just looked this up... It's cool. It SO reminded me of "The Weight" by The Band. I think it has the same chord progression, or seems to. I can totally see the Van Morrison reference too. Cool stuff though. Kudos
Whilst this era probably represents the peak of his powers - Adam Duritz, Elton John and all - Ryan is a national treasure who is still writing and releasing relevant and vital music to this day. A true American artist.
Been listening to you since... I don't know, 10 years ago, and everything I like you more and find you more interesting, what a creative musician! Love from Argentina : ) It's funny that almost nobody knows about about you not even here nor in countries close to us like Brazil and when I have conversations on music with people they always go "oh, you mean Bryan Adams?" xD
I love "Gold" album but I didn't know about how many singles were off of this record. So this is number two and last. A fairy, lovely and "ryanesque" video! Elton John did a funny cameo! ;D
I could never imagin anything more bueatiful a day ago or anyday until now his voice makes me cry makes me happy enough to say i can move on and i honestly i wasnt excepting that effect WooT!!!
Think this is one of the first songs I heard by Ryan Adams.I added this to my christmas playlist as nothing says christmas like Elton John dressed in purple and waving a wand.Lol. I read that Ryan Adams asked Bryan Adams to appear in this video as the tinman.I don't know if that really happend but can you imagine it?Would have taken this video to new levels of strange.Love the video though.
Wow..."Bridesmaids" was on in the house and I heard this...it's so fine! First I thought it was Van the Man, then I heard what sounded like the Band. Whatever it is, I LOVE it.

Ryan adams is one of the best and most prolific song writers of our time. The only reason is not better known is he dosn't sell out to all this pop crap. One of my top inspirations in my music.
Riff reminded me of The Joker - Steve Miller Band. Had to share in case anyone else is spending half an hour ripping their hair out trying to remember what song it reminds them of, just as I have been.
Elton John appears in the video because Adam's is a huge fan, and also there's the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" connection. Who is the third guy with Adams and Duritz? It is also rumored that Adams tried to get Bryan Adams to appear in the video. Great song, great video. Thanks.
