Is there a better break-up song than this? For those of us who’ve been there, it’s a masterpiece that encapsulates all the hurt that we humans can inflict on each other 😢
You're right. That's definitely one of his best songs in recent years. Can't say I'm really surprised it's not on an album. Probably about half of my favorite Ryan songs are either b-sides or unreleased.
@@chadzwolinski4319 It's definitely not a reworking. Both 'Doylestown Girl' and 'Red And Orange Special' were included in the original track listings for Wednesdays and Big Colors back in 2019. I can hear it a bit though. Reminds me of Neil Young more than anything.
There's a river down in Nashville Where the alcohol's so clean You can wash away the sins Of anyone but me And if you're not at the table Then you're probably the mill Your name goes higher on the menu As her drinks begin to spill And it's too humid in the morning Her mascara starts to fade Into the silk of all her pillows Where the codeine's set to lay And when they wash away the garbage All that horror will remain And the red and orange special Is burning on that midnight train And if you try hard enough Maybe you just might believe You still know exactly who you are Til you panic and can't breathe But you're just sweating in the mirror You're just melting in the sink Like cheap trick birthday candles Slow red flames burning into the pain It is raining on the harbor It is raining on the sea I am rushing through the alleyway I am almost free You are toxic and so selfish Like you are some sort of saint Walking around the house and cussing Counting all the things you hate Put a bullet in the TV While you're screaming at the clouds Passing by us moving overhead When there's no one else around I drink the poison when it's liquid I drink the poison in your glass Your kisses burn my tongue of feeling Onion peels and fiberglass It is raining on the cemetary It is falling from the tree There's detectives in the shadows Taking notes on what I see There's a broken moon ascending Like a sword up from the sea There is no one there to give a fuck And the midnight special Is burning into the pain Stand against the wall, drinking pints When it's nice When it's sunny Smoke is billowing out of the cackling mouths Telling jokes that are barely funny People laughing anyway Stuck in their jobs like bees and honey I don't need your love to stay alive I'll take my pride, baby You can keep the money It's too humid in the evening As your looks begin to fade All the money in the world Cannot take back what you said And when they wash away the garbage Only her memories will remain And the red and orange special Is burning on that midnight train
Thanks for sharing, this is so incredible, with those evocative, scathing lyrics… Loved it immediately when I originally heard it. Sounds like a chapter from a classic, gothic Southern novel being sung ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is still a masterpiece in every way but it now has a rival for ‘best breakup song ever written’. Thanks to Ryan’s glorious recent cover of Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks, I now know ‘Idiot Wind’ which is also a masterpiece. Both will stand the test of time as outstanding pieces of literature (imo). If I was a teacher, I would present these two songs as an exercise in ‘compare n contrast’. With the proviso that most 16/18year olds don’t yet have an inkling of the tragedy that a full scale marriage breakup entails. Hard to beat Ryan’s lines - - - “I don’t need your love to stay alive - I’ll take my pride baby, you can keep the money - -“.
............." a real classic. So why not on an album?? It's all very confusing! " ....agree with you pal ¡¡¡ a lot of confused , You must be an expert in ryan's career for understand that lot of songs and released works ¿¿¿
The vinyl versions of "Wednesdays" came with one of 2 bonus disks. This song was on one of them. All 4 of these bonus tracks are on my channel. I don't think they were ever made available for download or available anywhere else.
