Funniest shit I have ever read in a comment, he will steal your vacuum cleaner and try and pond it. You can tell this dude does meth. Anyone can twist a fucking throttle and think their a bad ass
Remember when world record stunts were performed by a guy in a star-spangled costume in a packed stadium? Now they're performed in a carefully directed Monster advertisement.
@Green Giant ok so your opinion is that even you could land this insane jump? I think some people are a little too confident about their skills lol. If it is that easy why arent there more crazy stunts like that from people like you?
@Green Giant people watched evel cause you didn't know if he was going to wreck or not. That's why he had fans. Pastrana has tons of fans because you never know what crazy stunt he's about to pull. Js7 was the evel of supercross. People loved watching that guy cause he was checkers or stretchers
The set up is soooo much better than old school jumps. He has a bail out to the right, wind at his back, big wide landing area that is ABOVE the launch ramp (makes his actual drop from the peak of his jump less) and it's all dirt for softer landing... Oh, and the bike is waaay better for jumping as well. Still incredible, but yea, preparation is what made this possible.
Speed is the major variable in distance.. not height. So, yeah… the landing being higher makes sense. He’s alive to tell the tale. Not all busted up or dead like his predecessors.
@@billybutcher9912 Jumps where the landing is higher than the launch should have an asterisk beside their records though... It makes it way easier/softer landing...
I have no doubt that this guy will hit 400 or a bit better..... Some guys are just born on dirt bikes and destined to greatness..... Good Luck and Safe Landings Brother!
@@zirzmokealot4600 400 was broken a decade ago - 425 ft by Alex Harvill. Who is also now dead (a year after Ryan). Well, at least they both died doing what they loved most - Alex jumping bikes, Ryan doing hard drugs.
@@zirzmokealot4600 that dosnt matter. He was late when he made the comment. He wasnt trying anymore because somone else broke the 400......................................................................................... You are a dumbass
@@freedomfox8183 yeah NO, we'll definitely go ahead and call Evel Knievel the all-time King! no one and I mean no one has the cojones and mental fortitude to crash the way that man did repeatedly and still go bigger each time with a third of the suspension none of the ramp building computer technology and four times the weight hands down the undisputed champion! someone that jumps a few feet further on a featherweight bike with (30+in of travel lol) doesn't even begin to compare to the pure grit and sack Evel Knievel had
need more light every way imaginable 13 inches of travel not 30. He made motorcycles more popular and took the bad boy imagine away a little. But he was not very skilled. When you watch him ride you can tell he doesn’t quite care whether he lands it. I’ve cleared 90ft on a 78’ Suzuki gs1000 on a pavement step down, it’s not incredibly hard. And he had access to better bikes.
need more light every way imaginable you’re completely wrong about everything you said. All of it is factually incorrect. It’s 13 inches of travel not 30. His xr750 did not weigh 1000 lbs.....more like 340, and a 450 mx bike weighs 240, not even close to quadruple, not even close to double the weight. Calculus existed for evel just as it does for us today, we all are using the same equations to build jumps. You don’t need to use a computer, it’s an formula, it can be done on paper. And last but not least... anyone, I mean anyone can launch a bike off a ramp for money and hope they don’t die.
What Evil was doing with a bike with hardly any suspension is way more ballsy then what anyone has done since. That bike he jumped with did not have 13 inches of travel either. It was way less then that and 100 lbs more of weight makes a lot of difference. A dirt bike is way easier to jump with them the street bike Evil used
why don't you do that in public and like Evel Knievel he did it on the asphalt like he had some steel balls but I won't take anything away from you that's a big jump 390 feet
Go for it, big man! Let's see you jump a dirt bike 400 feet or further, in front of a crowd, on hardass asphalt as your landing pad! Show 'em how it's done! Or you could shut the fuck up and sit right there.
@@chrishamilton2559 yeah who give a fuck about the surface he lands on lmao, as long as he lands it and doesn't go full evil kneviel ragdoll like a chump. He's jumping over a football field, how much more do you want....
cheers .. I was thinking not long ago that I could only think of Eddie Kidd and a couple of others that had attempted to follow in the footsteps of big EK .. next a rocket bike over the Grand Canyon ? Oh , it makes you think eh ? RIP Evil. all the best mate.
hi guys .. if you like stuff that flys about then check secureteam10 . please don't dismiss coz looks unbelievable .. check the footage .. disclosure channel is good also.. you know what they say - one good turn... and take care I've crashed motorcycles a bit n it takes its toll..lol yeah .. like..J
Henry Wilcocks youre right. planes can take off easier and with less ground speed taking off into headwind. as opposed to tail wind which decreases climb and makes it harder to take off
+EarToTheGround +Henry Wilcocks Yes, airplanes use less runway and climb more steeply (not more quickly) with a headwind. No, a headwind does not help a jumping motorcycle go further. I'd be happy to explain...
Capes use to hang out at the shop I worked at and would go riding with his crew , good kid ..crazy but knew he was on to something nothing but respect Arthea level is what he deserves
Was showing a mate of mine Ryan went to google him and WTF he has died cant believe it RIP much love to your family I love this guy because him and the kid that broke his record unlike Robbie Madison didn't need to show boat their talent Ryan' s 390ft was literally no one there and not many people know of him I remember see a clip of Ryan when all other long distant jumpers after Seth Enslow where doin 150ft jumps Ryan was doing 250ft + and 150 with tricks lol a true legend RIP champ.
The 2022 year is coming to an end and this is on the front page of my RU-vid as a recommendation. 10 year old video where I can count the pixels. Crazy.
@@TonaldDrump686he jumped Harleys but they’re built for distance jumping and can’t jump anywhere near this kind of distance. Seth because famous for getting big air and crashing not because he was skilled because skill wasn’t his asset.
Brett Ostrander What? On a piece of shit Harley dirt bike? WORST dirt bikes ever? That's EXACTLY WHY Evil Knievel always ate shit. NO SUSPENSION whatsoever for long or high jumps. You want somebody to just take you up on that so they can get bad hurt or killed? Grow up.
Howabouthetruth In other words....Brent has respect for Evel Knievel for doing the things he did on what he did them on. If EK had a bike like the one Ryan Cates rode in this vid, who knows how many world record distance/number of vehicles jumped he would of set instead of the most broken bones..haha
Watching this video and seeing it is 10 years old. I had a sneaking suspicion this guy has passed away by now and after looking it up. He passed away in 2020. Cause unknown. RIP
***I think you did great dont get me wrong please, but that last statement sorry don't agree at all. He jumped with old ass Harley type bikes. There is*** NO ***comparison to your high tech springs/bike/powerbands etc.***
Technology braddah. Each of those Harleys were pretty much scrap metal afterwards. I loved watching Evel as a kid and often went out immediately after each broadcast to do my little jumps on my bicycle, but even this record will not stand, and the bikes used here will be considered "old school" some day
@Green Giant Yes, I am cool. I was cool back when cool was cool. Despite all the Chuck Norris jokes, he got his ass handed to him by Bruce Lee. Now you know. Don't forget it ;)
Did someone tell this guy the point of licking and holding your finger up to test the wind direction....needs to be done without gloves on....I guess not!
MrPitBikes they have digital readouts on the wind so everyone can see it. he was only holding his index up to let everyone know hes going. do you really think hes gonna rely on some ancient technique?
Huge jump, very impressive and remained a record distance until Alex Harville beat him with a 425’ jump in 2012. Alex crashed on one of his jumps and did not survive. Sadly Ryan Capes also passed away in 2020.
When coming up with a new ramp design, there's a lot of math, but there is no math involved with speed to hit it, he's got no speed-o anyway. Yeah they record it each jump, but it's all feel, just like any new jump you're going off feel and the sound of the engine, especially if someone hits something first and then they either tow you over or you just go hit it after hearing where they were at in the RPMs. To start doing long distance, they'll set it at say 100+Ft to the sweetspot, which is simple with those ramps, then keep pushing it back more and more until they're at where they are now. Which that wouldn't take long if he got to hit it over and over, what takes a long time is inbetween jumps they'll change stuff like gearing, take away teeth on the rear for more top speed but less torque, then the biggest change which is suspension settings. To do big changes like spring rate and valving, you have to send the fork and shock off, so then you lose multiple days right there. Then also keep hitting the same distance and mess with compression dampening and rebound to see if it helps get you more comfortable before moving it back again. Then its repeat until you have the setting you know can reach 350-400, of course then you have to adjust for either tail wind or head winds, on that i wouldn't jump with a strong head wind and not a chance with a side wind... if you've got your weight slightly to one side or a few millimeters off being straight, on a jump that big, that turns into many ft... it would not take much wind to blow you completely off the landing, its very narrow for a jump like that. But all That is providing you dont go down, break parts, spokes, or Taco a wheel somewhere along the way on landing... which reminds me, after every jump he's putting the bike on the stand to check and tighten spokes, if not a complete bolt check, atleast on the bar mounts, triple tree, and front axel pinch bolts. I have to atleast check my spokes a couple times a day just sessioning regular comp ramps set at 75ft, especially if i ever clip the knuckle with the rear or go a bit deep, or if they're new wheels or spokes. And quite honestly, when it's a jump this size, there's not much timing involved, yes it's massive, takes a lot of time to get there, and the consequences absolutely massive, but it's 5th gear as fast as the bike can go, that's not 'timing'. The hard part is keeping it level on a jump that big, after a certain point, you can no longer use the clutch and hit the rear brake to bring the front end down, you can lock that bitch up and it's still going to keep coming over backwards. So the whole time after leaving the lip, he has to keep it level by continuously alternate betweenvbrake tapping so he doesn't reach the point of no return while also blipping the throttle every now and again to keep it level. If you speed up the rear wheel it increases the inertia and helps bring the front up, or in a flip it'll help it come around if you're slightly under rotating. On a regular ramp, you can basically get the bike almost completely looped out vertically and still be able to brake tap and get the front down, not on a jump like that. That exact thing happened to Axell when he was trying to set a gap record, he had the rear locked up and the front end kept floating up and he landed rear first, when it slapped the front end down it ripped the bars from his hands and he got absolutely shit whipped into the ground then ragdolled.
Evil packed the stadiums by himself he did not need red Bull or monster to make his show. It was a one man show all the way. The new bikes make the landing a whole lot more manageable. I don't care about your equipment the faster you wipe out the longer it takes to roll to a stop. Broken bones hurt. Leave Evil alone he was the grandfather of motor cycle jumping. He started from scratch.
Obviously what he is doing is quite dangerous and impressive, BUT the huge size of his earthen work landing rap makes it much easier/safer to pull off than smaller wooden landing ramps that many of the world's daredevil jumpers have used in the past.
The jump was great but whats amazing is he didnt sell out to do it Notice there wasnt 200000 people in the background. Im sure he made money and theres nothing wrong with that. This jump was about whos got the biggest balls. Respect!
Pretty cool but I dont like how they land higher than where they take off from on a lot of today's jumps, also the landing area is HUGE unlike the motorcycle jumpers of old who had a much smaller landing target and took more skill. Evel, Robbie, Gary Wells and Johnny Airtime are my kinda guys.
Skazellino I like all the guys you named accept Evil Knievel. He just pinned it and hoped for the best. He didn't train, practice, test suspension, and most people didn't like him.
What's up with the hard brake .than turn before going fast again ..to hit the final jump. .I'm sure that had alot to do with distance and speed of course . ...great job for how you approached this jump

Another way to fly and land farther is how you make your landing spot. Make the ramp lower so you stay in the air longer. That landing ramp looks a little elevated higher than your take off.
