In all honesty, as a buckeye fan, this is his most forgivable loss. Oregon’s a heck of a team, they’ve got passionate fans, and the buckeyes went over two time zones to play em. Only lost by 1 point mainly because of a penalty on one of the last couple plays. Can’t wait to see them again

There is no guarantee the kid would make the FG, or that it wouldn't have been blocked. OSU ran out of time. With 6 seconds left in the game, you don't dial up some downfield passing scheme. I blame the missed opportunity to attempt a FG on the play call and clock management. The game was a rock fight between two really good teams.

Lifetime Ohio State fan here and I'm with you on this I hate that they are calling for Ryan Days head. He's a great coach and has been improving year after year. Everyone has this idea of Natty or bust this year which with the new format is hard for any team to do. Also, if anything this year so far has proved anyone can beat anyone on any given day. We have been so close on so many games and i think if the game against Oregon was played at home we win that game. The home field advantage made a huge difference in penalties, and it just seemed like our team continued to shoot ourselves in the foot time after time. and we were still in a position to win the game. we have a great team and this game does not define our season by any means.

@@jimmy5634 My apologies! I forgot golden rule #1; Never offend a fan boy. Let me try to explain without sending you into a temper tantrum (and I'm sorry for being unable to use crayons but I promise I'll use small words). I think most logical people with a brain would say giving up 500 YARDS in a game - including 341 yards of passing, with zero sacks is probably not a good day defensively. Additionally, if you look at the pressure rate, OSU was under 40% so they weren't putting pressure on Gabriel consistently. And unlike OSU, Oregon actually threw the ball downfield which takes more time for a play to develop. People can get sucked into the stats for this year but keep in mind those stats are padded with the likes of Akron, WMU, Marshall, Michigan State etc. I don't think they'll see any of those teams in the playoffs. This is the FIRST good team OSU has played this year and the first time they can be measured. Humans learn more from losing than winning so hopefully the game serves as a wakeup call but please don't try to call a piece of dog sh*t a bar of gold. Nobody is buying it except a fan boy.

2019 - Arguably the worst call in CFB history took an OSU TD off the board against Clemson. Bucks lose by 6 2021 - CJ Stroud throws game sealing pick against ORE at home 2022 - Ruggles misses the game winning FG against UGA in CFP. 2023 - Kyle McCord misses a wide open MHJ, and throws game sealing pick against UM in the big house. The coach can only do so much, and in every scenario laid out (aside from 2019), he put them in a position to win. Players have to execute.

Ryan Day has had the worst luck of any coach in this sort of game. He was poised to win against Clemson and his receiver unaccountably broke off a touchdown route. He had a field goal to beat Georgia (after losing Marvin Harrison on a targeting that wasn't called) and the kicker just shanked it. And for the past 3 years Michigan has been flagrantly cheating, as will soon emerge. In this latest game he had a pass interference call that was inconsistent with the way the game had been called to that point as well as a cunning but not entirely sporting maneuver on the 12 men. Hard luck is not incompetence.

As a Buckeye fan everything is still in front of us. We still have the opportunity to smack up on a mid TUN team, still have the opportunity to get that Oregon loss back in the B10 championship game, and still have the opportunity to have home field advantage in the playoffs (at least until the semifinals), and still have the opportunity to win a Natty. With a couple adjustments/rational changes on defense, and teaching Judkins to just go down and take the 2-3 yard loss instead of getting into a tug of war with a guy twice his size we’ll be in good shape. I’m telling you if we rotate more often on the defensive line with Curry, Jackson and MacDonald and put Jermaine Matthews & Igbinosun on Johnson and Stewart instead Burke & Hancock and then have them rotate on Holden’s spitting like a hoe ass, have Caleb & Ransom out there as the safeties and have Sonny play a hybrid LB/5th pass rusher like he did against Iowa, this defense would be almost unstoppable, outside of a couple 21-24 point games against really good teams. No offense to Hancock and Burke, but it was evident against Oregon, and ttun the past 3 years, Georgia in the playoffs, and against Missouri in the 4th quarter last season that they don’t have the speed to keep up with speedy receivers throughout a whole game, but they also don’t have the size, conditioning or physicality to press them for a whole game either. At the end of the day I’d rather have Iggy and Matthews give up a couple 10-20 yard PI/Holding penalties, than watch Burke or Hancock give up 30-50 yard Touchdowns.

Look, I don't expect him to win ALL his games against teams that have close-to-comparable talent, but a .182 winning percentage in the games that matter (no one at tOSU gives a damn how many times they beat Rutgers or Northwestern or Maryland: those games are chiseled into stone as wins the moment the schedule comes out) is unacceptable and marks him as a FRAUD!!! I believe only 3 teams have won National Championships from a northern school in the past 26 years. (2) by Ohio State & the outlier team last year. Okay here comes the stats: Coach/seasons/avg.AP final ranking Ryan Day/6/4.67 Urban Meyer/7/4.22- 1 NC Jim Tressel/10/~6.88 & 1 year not ranked - 1 NC John Cooper/13/not going to waste our time except to say 5 years unranked Earle Bruce/9/six straight 3 loss seasons . I’m excited about this team & the future with Day as the Bucks coach. Have you seen the list of recruits coming in, and I know it can change, the next couple of years!?! WOW!!! So in closing, if you don’t like the direction Ohio State is going in, talk to fans of Florida, Florida State, USC, Oklahoma, Nebraska & Auburn. Go Bucks!

I'm as big of a Buckeye fan as you could want to talk to, and I'm on Team Day, still. I thought it would be hard to go undefeated this season, namely because of the additional game (extended playoffs). Losing by 1 pt. to the #3 team in the country at their place is not some unmitigated disaster. Oregon had a better night and executed better, period. Where I will really start to get in my feelings is if, sometime during the afternoon of November 30th, we are talking about loss #4 in a row to TTUN. At that point, conversations will start. And once they start, the only thing that will stop them is the NC Trophy.

40 year old Buckeye here Ryan Day IS one of the best coaches in the country, but his record against Top 5 teams, and _ichigan, means he's lost a LOT of loyalty. I'd rather be undefeated against That Team Up North for ten years and have an overall losing record each year, than the results he's given. BUT... it's not like there's anyone else better than him looking for a job. Once there is.... Day is gone.
@richarddexter7641
@richarddexter7641 5 дней назад
As a Buckeye fan, I get that people aren't happy with Day's performance in the biggest games thus far. But looking at it holistically, he's not lost a single game to an unranked team in 5+ seasons. None of his predecessors can say that. There are no Purdue or Iowa losses in what were potentially championship seasons. Tressel and Urban only one the biggest one once--which means 2 nattys in 17 seasons. That's good football, but it's not Saban-like. Honestly, if the Buckeyes were to win like some fans think they ought to, college football would be boring--what's the challenge or excitement if you know you're going to win every game? Are there things that I'd like to see improved upon? Of course there are. But expecting 18-22 year olds to consistently perform at a perfect level in a game as difficult to play at the highest level week in and week out is simply unattainable. What I expect to see now though, is a very different team in 2 weeks. One that's angry and will battle even harder. Anyone that's accomplished anything in life knows that it's the difficulties that provide us with our best learning/improvement opportunities--and this loss may be the thing this team needed to get them to that next level. But firing Day? Who do you think you can get that will do better? I'm not an expert on the matter, but I certainly don't see anyone out there that fills that bill.

You do not see kids failing in school or in trouble with the law. Sure as a buckeye fan I TIRE of losing all these top 5 match ups especially with this roster. I think long term the loss is going to turn out to be VERY good for the team. We are NOT as good defensively as we were last year PERIOD. We can and MUST be better defensively, ESPECIALLY on the back end. I think Burke has to be given a chance to redeem himself. I also think that Knowles need to communicate that the second he sees anything like what happened at Oregon it's the Bench for you. Am very disappointed that Matthews hasn't seen more game time. They HAVE to take the handcuffs off Sawyer and JTT that cage rush crap needs to find the garbage bin. I deathly afraid that the injury to Simmons is a BIG problem... Zen's PFF numbers were HORRIFYINGLY bad. Im dead serious the DEFENSE is going to have to PICK UP THE LOAD and start running with it... I trust this staff if I can easily see potential nightmares, trust me they can. I think that Knowles is going to have to tell Larry, look we dont have a choice we HAVE to be more agressive we have to create turnovers and give the offense great field position we may have to win games 14-13, 10-0, 3-0

It’s the way the team feels to me and that’s why I want him to go. I honestly haven’t been satisfied the way the defense has looked since tressel if we’re getting real. There’s no tenacity. No flying around. When urban took over we adopted this bend don’t break thing on defense, which seems to have continued under day only now they also look scared. I think Ryan day is a great coach but I think whatever afflicts him in these big games is a problem. Also I would add many of these big games feel like games Ohio state either before or during the games feel like they should win easily and don’t. You have to look at everything. As much as I hate harbaugh and his spew Ryan day was born on third, he has recruited insanely well (albeit maybe a little lacking in the trenches), they should be winning some of these big games by multiple scores, and it’s Ohio state. I think pate is right to an extent about managing expectations and not to expect the next Nick saban but Ohio state is simply supposed to be Georgia and Alabama in the trophy room based on what they have and what their own goals are.

Easiest way to overhaul osu is fire Knowles. He’s the definition of under qualified and over hyped. Against all the teams they lost to the last few years they have no 4th quarters stops and have given up roughly 500 yards. The defensive line is also overhyped and gets barely any sacks against even the weak opponents. The special teams is also lackluster and the kicker can’t make anything past 40 yards.
