My heart just broke when her sister said she died on impact and I almost just started crying...... please don’t use your phone in the car if you’re driving......
That distracted driver should be prosecuted to the fullest extent, it’s time to start treating teen drivers like adults, they know that it’s illegal but they do it anyway. It just makes me made that people can be so careless. I was in a car accident and was lucky af to not be too hurt. I know kids who have died which is why I don’t ever text and drive ever, if I have a call I pull into a parking lot to answer. I was so scared to drive and I think that makes me a better driver because I’m aware that I’m driving a death machine basically

i feel like they should show the photos from the scene in all of these types of videos. bc everyone thinks they’re invincible and they all think that they’re a good enough driver to be on their phone. it doesn’t sink in when we just keep hearing “texting and driving kills”. we don’t think there will be consequences until there are. hearing over and over again not to text and drive and to stay off the phone and blah blah blah clearly doesn’t help. people need to see what their actions can do. they need to see the harsh and terrible reality of it.

That's why it goes back to drivindriving being a privilege towards everyone, including teens that are new behind the wheel. It also goes back to the driver being focused on the road and being responsible for the passengers in the car.
Put your phone in the glove box and put it on silent/airplane mode while driving. Out of sight (hopefully) out of mind. You driving and getting to your destination safely, is the only thing that matters. Only When you are parked/not driving, should you look at your phone. ALL texts/phone calls can wait until you’re not driving. Distracted driving is as bad as driving drunk.
I think it’s disgusting how humans lack the basic self control to not pick up their phone even if it’s in front of them. You shouldn’t have to go out of your way to put your phone out of reach (obviously the case for most people) it’s just sad

i am a complete mess watching this, I absolutely cannot imagine losing my little sister, my best friend, and my lifeline. I’m such an empathetic person, and this just breaks my heart. I’m so terribly sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to Ryan’s family
Some further context: the road on which this accident occurred has very steep hills, which led to the initial accident. When traffic backs up, it’s insanely dangerous. I’m lucky that I came upon the traffic in a flatter area with clear visibility. The fact that she slammed on her brakes is solely because the hills severely affect one’s visibility of the road ahead. Those of us who drove away that day were very lucky. We owe it to Ryan’s family and all parties involved to have the utmost respect for this tragic accident.

My dad took my brothers, cousins, and me out driving all the time. He made sure we drove on gravel, highway, ice and any other condition imaginable. He would make us slam on the brakes to know how a vehicle acts in that situation. They say steer into the skid or whatever but what does that mean to a young and inexperienced driver. When I was driving with my son I loaded up the car, played music, distracted him, and anything else I could think of so he was experienced and knew how much these things affect you while driving. My dad always said when you are driving you don't just drive your car, you drive the cars all around you. Don't expect that people will do what they are supposed to do, you drive expecting them to do the opposite. Be prepared to react and know your surroundings. I am so sorry you lost your sister/daughter. The thing that makes me really angry is how cars are being filled with more and more gadgets and crap that does nothing but distract the driver. I am so sorry.
I’m a truck driver with 23 years of experience with 60% of my life spent on the road. I’ll just say this: 20-25% of society shouldn’t be allowed to drive. Period. Take that advise for what it’s worth

I’m not 100%, but I’m pretty sure this happened in Lincoln, NE. The road is considered the most deadly road in the county because of the amount of people killed while driving it. The hills and it being only one-lane traffic each way makes it incredibly dangerous and people just don’t pay attention.
It's not only teen drivers; I know a woman that is gonna be 64 this month she has been involved in so many minor accidents alwaz at a drive through she now has to pay higher insurance she drives her grandbabies every where
As though it may seem, people need to put down the phone, and drive. Crashes like this changes lives forever. Activities are interrupted , because of a crash. Person dies, or seriously injured. A person has plans, get into a vehicle, drives , picks up phone and text ,. They don't seem to realize that they travel enough to cover a football field in a short amount of time. You take your eyes off of the road, you are looking for trouble. I did the same thing the other day. It was stupid. I will never do that again. 1 football field, 2 football fields in a short amount of time. I watched a video of these people in cars with cameras and they are looking down, and within seconds,. They get into an accident. I seen another video of a driver rolling along at 70 miles an hour, not paying attention to the stopped traffic in front of him. By the time he looked up, it was too late. Ran into the back of a patrol car, and other vehicles. Needless to say, he went to prison for murder. Is it worth going to prison for? No ,. Because the only time you can see your husband or wife and family is through a glass window and a phone. Family and relatives don't want to talk to the person behind bars. Turn off your phone, put in the glove box, or console, leave it alone. You will get your destination safely. You pickup the phone start dialing or texting you, are risking your and other people's lives. Stop and think before you pick up the phone!!!!! I know most people know that texting and driving is the leading death or seriously injured more than anything out there. THINK BEFORE PICKING UP THE PHONE.
My nina was killed by someone texting and driving. They weren't paying attention and didn't see that the light had turned red and went into oncoming traffic and hit her
STOP TEXTING AND DRIVING OR DRINKING AND DRIVING. Please because when I was in first grade my older sister who was in fifth grade and I missed the bus because she was finishing her makeup. So our mom had to take us to school and at the time my younger brother was in preschool he was four years old. Then after our mom dropped us off she was pulling out of the school parking lot. Then a car that was driving wasn’t paying attention to the road or was speeding hit my moms van and the airbags went off with my younger brother in the backseat in his car seat. Everyone was saying that there was a accident with a mother and a young child. Luckily both my mom and my younger brother survived.
