While I get what you mean, I'm gonna defend Young Buck. The country music artists names he dropped weren't just to be obsequious. For example, he referred to himself as the black Johnny Cash. This is simultaneously a shoutout to actual Johnny Cash, and a reference to "Cashville" as a commonly used nickname for Nashville, largely because of Young Buck's own first post- GUnit album, "Straight Outta Cashville" as well as the name of the record label he founded. When he references Willie Nelson, he doesn't just drop the name. He says, he is "smoking Willie Nelson." There is a strain of weed that is named after Willie Nelson. (Snoop has publicly stated - more than once - that Willie Nelson is the only person who has ever smoked him out. Snoop says that if there was a Mount Rushmore for weed smokers, Willie Nelson should be up there right next to Bob Marley.) So, there were more layers to those lyrics that seemed throwaway to you than may have been apparent. Mainly, I don't think it was so much suppose to be a complicated, bar-heavy, construct as much as it was two guys coming together to rep their city on an ode to old school chop and screw, club bumpin' fun. 🤘

Upchurch, This and That. Check that song out. Most of what Upchurch does isn't up my alley, not that it isn't good, and he puts out a lot of music. I have wished I could tell him to put it about half of what he does and spend more time on each production. I believe that he would really blow up. I am not country at all, but that song "Holler Boys" is catchy for some reason... It is all about, "if you need some back up, we will come running", so that kinda makes it even better...

I think it was more of giving Church a “stamp” of where he stands. He’s “Dirty South” to the bone, and he really doesn’t get that cred, if you know what I’m sayin. Mad props to Young Buck on that one.
