I had some grinding from front diff on first run, on 3s climbing easy river bank sandy hills, found the front to be shimmed improperly and gears burred already Installed spool in rear, robbed 2 shims from rear to add to center and front, 3 shims in those each now with new gear set in front center was fine, and added 20million traxxas diff fluid(putty) plug and it’s magical now, running on hw xr8 sensored with 3660 3200kv! Dropped to a 13tooth until I get low gear set for 2 speed then I’ll gear up some! Sensored hw set up is killer!!! I had binding issues out the box too, went straight to fs gt5! Loving it! Broke front axle, too exposed diff cover is culprit hitting things first, made it snap on left side where links support axle!! Check your diffs, get some shims!! Love your content!! Wanted to share my experience so far!!! Amazing too how the price of parts for the ryft on hh’s site almost doubled since Monday!! High demand for sure!!!!
I’m really glad you said you’re running that hobbywing combo! I almost ordered it this evening. I decided to hold off and get one more run in with it to make sure I loved it enough to spend the money on the hobbywing 😂. I’ll probably be ordering it soon though! Thanks so much for the info!

Got some of the Furitek’s otw, running sidewinders now in one of mine with a prop drive v2 28/26 1000kv out runner! It’s a horse torque monster! My man has a Holmes weeevolver in his. Night and day with these 24’s on brushless...sooooooo smooth and torquey

My front diff gears started clicking loud. Pulled out all spider gears put lockers in everything. I personally like it better with the lockers. Running 4s 100c 6000mah. Things a beast. Next swap gna be steering servo
I want to let everyone know Horizon is Handling the RYFT issues very Promptly, within 24 hours of reporting problems I have been contacted, and they have already shipped my replacement parts, at least that makes me feel good about their commitment to customers.
Hopefully they get back to me at some point. Been a little over 24hrs and nothing but the automatic response email. Now it’s the wknd so I probably won’t hear anything until Monday. I don’t have to have their parts to run or anything but I want them to know how bad mine was out of the box. Sad when you HAVE to change the rx/tx on a brand new truck to even use it. Good thing I planned to change it anyway lol
@@TheCummins03 yeah I still haven’t heard anything from them either. I did buy an extra ring and pinion just in case. Heard of a few cases of them breaking.
@@GrimJerr yeah I don’t blame ya. Mines basically all aftermarket upgrades now. Well anything I could replace with better stuff anyway. Vitavon axle housings,losi trailing arms,reefs raw servo,rpm rod ends, lockers in the diffs cause they are garbage,shocks cause I bent the shaft on the rears, motor & esc cause I wanted sensored and anything else I could swap out lol
Probably the diffs. Both front and back stripped on every single one in our crew (4 total trucks) I put lockers in but now they are backordered. Several people are just using jbweld in them lol
@@jasonlam6338 yeah that sucks! Mine did the same. Use some jbweld on them. There is also another company making the lockers now. Seen them on Facebook. I’ll try to find the name for ya.
I mounted the Desert Lizards today and they fit perfect, the stock spring will compress little, which seems to be acting like pre-load and the Lizards are adding more dampening on rebound. Haven't run them yet but it feels good and my sway-bar seems to be working. Purchased the Vitavon Trailing arms also today, and the metal reinforcements for the stock arms since I'm not sure how long Vitavon will take to manufacture and ship all my parts.
Waiting on some piston rods to repair my Front Shocks before I can make a test run with where I am now, should be here tomorrow. Bought some straight rod ends also just in case I break one.
rebuilt all my Diffs, Empty on Lube, Minimal at best. Topped them off with Million Weight. May try a locker in the Center Diff. Investigating pros and cons of having which Diff locked for what.
@@GrimJerr sweet! Yeah I’m on lizards all the way around now. Bent the stock shocks up and decided to toss them lol. Just put some ear plugs in my rear diff today and it’s soooo much better!!! Got my sway bar lined out and new electronics so she’s ready for some fun soon 🤘
@@ernestcoker6665 really appreciate it! Yeah I don’t see why people get bent out of shape what others do with their stuff. I paid the money for it so I’ll do what I want with it lol. That’s how the things we do now with modding came about. Otherwise we’d all still have completely stock trucks 😆
@@2fmrc I've been in this hobby since 1984 seen a lot of stuff come and go and if it wasn't for guys like us like you said stock trucks if axial and the other brands didn't have guys like working modifying they wouldn't no what to improve on
I kept the servo just got rid of the saver and added a axial 23 tooth and steering is great. Then broke the front axle housing.. everyone but a dude on Ebay is sold out. Time for front and rear axle upgrade .. any suggestions
It’s like my Rc drug! So hard on my wallet but crazy addicting lol. I have put a ton into this thing. I also have the vitavon axle housings on the way as well. Can’t wait to get those installed. I have an absolute blast with this thing for the 10 mins it runs each time out 😂. It’s getting better though. I almost have it pretty solid now. Just installed the reefs raw 500 today and locked the front diff after it quit pulling completely last time out. Hopefully next time out it’ll be solid!
I have a set that will be here tomorrow! So we will definitely find out. Worst case I have some longer rod ends that I can use to extend the upper links as well and help the drive shaft angle. As long as the drive shaft don’t fall out because of it lol
I have a video on making your own. I’m running the arms off of the reefs Rc kit for the bomber but it requires a bit of modding. The rod that comes with it isn’t long enough and the bushings don’t work either. There’s a kit on amazon for $12 that you can make work with a few extra parts and a bit of work. Probably around $20-25 total if you wanna check out my video on it.
Awesome video as always. I broke the front axle housing on mine yesterday:/ And to make it worse, they're backordered until July! I'm gonna try to glue it up so i can at least get it running for light action. And i definitely noticed that the servo was weak. Mine didn't cash out totally like yours did but i noticed numerous times when it just wasn't turning fully. I'm gonna try to find a servo saver that'll work that's a 25T and put a stronger servo in it. Aaand i also had the same reciever problems that you had. In addition the battery indicator never worked with my Spektrum smart batteries. Didn't work on my Lasernut either btw.
July? Wow! I’ll be telling them to take this thing and shove it if I have to wait that long to use it. Not happening! That’s complete garbage. I bought an extra front and rear in case mine breaks. If it does then I’m going to epoxy the crap out of the spare before I run it 😆. Crazy that these rx/tx jus absolutely do not work!
@@2fmrc Yeah, i joined a few Ryft groups on FB and broken front axle housings is incredibly prevalent! But they also said that Horizon is warrantying them so that's a plus. I saw a post where a guy sheathed the inside of the axle housing with aluminum tubing. He even posted the dimensions on the cuts in the tube. I'll try to find the post for you. So that's what I'm going to do to hopefully fix mine. Yeah, I'm not overly impressed with the DX3. I'll probably switch to a spare SLT3 system that i have sitting around. If that doesn't work I'm putting a Flysky in it.

Wow! Awesome review and discussion points. I love rock bouncers and I like emphasizing the distinction between crawling and bouncing because they are different beasts different sport. One thing that seems apparent to me is the shear power of the Ryft must be tamed in order to emulate a scale experience of real bouncers, that is if one wants to. Can’t deny the way that thing jumps on steep inclines is pretty cool, perhaps what a real bouncer could do if it had 5000 hp and solid titanium drivetrain LOL. Keep em comin Matt! Thanks!!!
Thanks so much! I agree. I love launching it up hills and making those huge jumps but the slow bouncing action is really fun. Well....what people call slow for these anyway. It definitely seems more “scale” when you hit it a little slower. To me at least. That’s one reason I want a sensored setup in it. Unlike most I enjoy slowing it down a bit with this thing. The 3s is definitely a sweet spot for this thing. 4s is a blast but just too much most of the time.

Nice job & great info! I put some China 2.2 alloys on my Ryft using the stock Ryft Nyloc 5mm nuts by using .185 SLW hubs from Locked Up RC. With my wheels they give exactly the same tread width. These hubs are not recessed so the Nyloc nut diameter is not an issue. Also, Tekno makes a smaller diameter black M5 serrated Nyloc nut part #TKRT1215 that are also slightly shorter allowing more of the nylon to grip the axle. Available on Amazon.

Yeah it’s pretty sad that brand new the rx/tx had to be changed imo. The breakage will happen. Probably shouldn’t happen on the scale it is but I can understand some of that. Not the fact that the electronics in several of them are complete garbage!
