See what you could accomplish with that piston and a few minutes on a polisher wheel. Then polish the inside of the cylinder. If you can smooth the scoring out, install the piston 180 degrees from the original position and see if it will run.

@Ram14250 Год назад
I'd put it back together and used it as it. It will probably run. Rub a little oil in the cylinder when putting it back together.

To me it looks like the piston and crank are bone dry. Even when looking through the exhaust port the piston looked dry. You should expect oil on the interior of the engine. That blower was either straight gased or they had poured something else in the fuel tank.

Nice teardown but imho rarely worth even tearing those lower end machines apart other than for curiosity. Unless they ran it with the air filter off and sucked something in i would agree that some little chunk of something internal broke off or a burr from casting let loose in there.

FYI, years ago I was doing some front end work on a Ford and the bolts were immovable, until I heated them with a torch and doing that loosened a ton of thread locker on the threads. Heated them, cleaned them up and it was smooth sailing from that point forward. I put thread locker back on the bolts but not quite so much. No point putting that thing back together. It truly is a "basket case". You are one dedicated soul!👍

May be able to measure the rings and speak to an aftermarket supplier to see if they can provide an equivalent. Try HLS, they might be able to match them. You can probably just lhone the cylinder, clean up the piston and put new rings in it.

I have the newer model of this. I just found 4 of the RY38BP on ebay for less then $70 bucks that seem to have the same issue. (Them all being sized) So purchased a parts blower. Looks brand new as well. I WILL be making a video on my failure as the DARN FAN seemed to have came off! I noticed something was wrong when it started to vibrate a lot more. Then it had trouble keeping up RPM. Then today? POOF! The engine went WAY up in RPM. And hardly any air was coming out of the blower. Yup. Has to be a fan failure. Looked up the part for the fan, and found I could get an entire blower sent to my door from Ebay for just a few dollars more. So jumped on that offer. Since the Blower is Plastic? Its pretty easy to fix anyways, but thought it would be a good idea to have lots of spare parts on hand. BTW? you can always use a heat gun or Soldering Iron to Heat up the bolt as well. Worked for me a long time ago. Also, I wonder if you can just rehone the bore and polish the piston a bit to put it back in service?

Check the spark plug for missing a portion of the electrode. Also what is the date of Mfg, Ryobi has a 3 year warranty. since the block assembly is no longer available, (and can’t get any warranty) free up the rings and flip the and he may get another year out of it…

I'm in the same boat at the moment with a Remington badged MTD chainsaw with scoring from an air leak. No piston, or cylinder. The scoring isn't as bad as it looks. Doesn't run the full length of the piston, and cylinder. Hopefully I can "spit&shine" both, and install new rings. It's my brother in law's first chainsaw so I'm gonna do what I can to fix it, and tell him to retire it to a shelf since he has a Husqvarna 440 now.
@jasonburguess
@jasonburguess Год назад
It's more trouble than it's worth, but you could tig weld the cylinder and re bore it and also tig weld the piston to build back material on each of them, then grind to tolerances and re install rings. But that's a lot for a leaf blower.

I had been using Ryobi 4-Cycle weed-eater handhelds, with inter-changeable attachments, for decades. Last year, I purchased a Ryobi 2-Cycle weed-eater handheld at Home Depot. It's compatible with my legacy attachments. I was very worried that the same thing might happen to my new small engine purchase that you are talking about with the Ryobi Blower that your customer brought to you. So, I only use Amsoil SABER Professional Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil, by Amsoil in Superior, Wisconsin. I'm not an Amsoil salesman. I'm just trying to improve the odds of getting my cheap Ryobi 2-Cycle machine to last.

Ryobi is known for issues with getting parts, can’t find individual parts. Like a stocker stud on a 4 stroke weedeater. They want whole motor replaced or nothing internally. I found that you can take a Troy Bilt stud and use a tap and die set to get Troy Bilt one into the ryobi. Got a few seasons out of it!!!

The cost of repair exceeds purchase price on most Ryobi machines. The manufacturers pretty much view these machines as landfill. You can see why guys like James Condon focus on generators. Other high end machines like concrete chainsaws and jetters are where there's justification for people to spend cash on repairs.
