I have had some serious clogging issues with the Ryobi 80v lawn tractor. It has the welded deck but it clogs with grass a lot! So I cleaned it and made necessary improvement to reduce dramatically the clogs!

Your videos are helpful. Do you have a link for the single blades? Any hacks for disabling back up alarm?

I still think cleaning the deck, letting the paint totally dry, and then putting a ceramic coating on would make a big difference too. It works similar to the silicone spray, putting a slippery ceramic coating on the deck giving it a permanent coating

A finish mower like this Ryobi was never designed for Bush Hog duty in heavy tall grass and weeds

The problem is you are cutting the wrong direction Cut so you blow the grass to where you already cut

Can you install a set of Gator blades on it? Might give you a best of both worlds cut.. I custom notched one for my Kobalt 80v 21” push mower a few years ago and the outcome was incredible! A little less battery life, but a MUCH better cut.

I am enjoying your entertaining videos on this problem. But my first thought is that any residential mower would be having clogging problems cutting that tall, wet grass. FWIW, I have one old riding mower with old blades that I set on the highest cutting depth that I use to chop down tall grass and weeds. It's not a brush hog, per se, but that is how I use it. I usually carry a long reach tool so I can simply disengage the blades and clear the clog without having to dismount. Works pretty good. Then I use my regular lawn mower with the good blades the next day or so to mow the grass when it is drier. For tall grass like yours, I would plan on cutting twice to mow once.

Where if you have needed them before but the blade adapters for your zero turn where have you gotten any replacement's? I can't seem to get Ryobi blade adapters and end up having to modify the aftermarket ones.

You need to get the proper tool for the stuff you are mowing. That stuff needs a brush hog or some kind of proper commercial grade mower. A residential mower was never meant to cut 12”-16” thick wet grass to 4” or less. I will thnk you for showing me this thing will be able to handle ANYTHING i could throw at it as I will only be doing a residential yard with mximum height of 8”-10” if I can’t mow for over a week.

What you just cut out isn’t the problem It’s the piece at the bottom If you can get rid of the piece at the bottom you should be fine

You mean remove the structure that supports the deck? Removing that section can structurally weaken the deck.

If that bottom rail is removed the deck would be weakened and catch just about everything which could be dangerous

Maybe take a mm or two of the top of the rail make sure it’s nice and smooth. Also the little bit of unevenness at the connection of the rail might be a seed for the clog. Looks like that could be smoother. Nice improvement and good job on testing with single blades.
