G'Day Guys, Another video in our new series of "The Gear We Use" In this video I show you what I use as a clean, green, alternative for a chain saw while out in the field to harvest firewood for making campfires and minor clearing tasks while out on the adventure. The Ryobi one plus sabre saw.

Couldn’t agree more , well stated! Great for small campfire wood and the odd not too large fallen tree blocking the track👌🏻another plus is some national parks and the like do not allow chainsaws even just to carry them... although some are now defining a chainsaw by “a mechanised device capable of cutting timber” We always have ours in the Ute with numerous blades including metal. Although still throw the big saw in for most high country trips depending on location. Cheers 👍🏻

100% mate, good little utility saw for light to medium duty work. Saves swinging an axe around...Good point too i forgot to mention that in the video, I always pack a few metal cutting blades, never know what you might find.

good for the ears and won't disturb anyone else nearby, you can cut wood almost anywhere

Nice one. That's the way I want to go also for what cutting I do. Have most of the kit already.

Thanks mate. Easy for light-medium duty cutting. I use a fair bit of their gear for camping. Once you have the battery’s it’s an easy choice 👍🏻

those things will last a long time also, Ive had a Dewalt version for 12 years. I used it to cut almost everything from exhaust to wood. I did replace the battery packs in 2018 with the newer versions.

I started with all DEWALT tools 👍🏻 I had to change over to RYOBI when I wanted battery pack powered fans for the summer season camping and there wasn’t one available, I personally would prefer all dewalt gear but Ryobi seems to be doing its job for now 😎

Great video Damo, I was actually looking at getting Ryobi battery chainsaw. But after watching this, repo saw way to go.👍 So can't wait to get out camping again soon. Doing thing's tough down here in Vic 😠

Thanks mate, you can definitely cut thicker and faster with the 18V saw but you still need to oil it and sharpen the chain. The demo saw works a treat easily eats 250mm width logs. Was just reading the news hopefully you guys are getting over the peak down there mate and everything returns to some sort of relative normal. 👍🏻

@@RoundTheFire Bunnings have a mark 2 saw which claims to cut 40% quicker. I finish my iso Saturday night as we were in close contact with my step daughter who is positive and was overdue to give birth. Misses went to look after grandson so step daughter could go to hospital, but misses ended up delivery the baby. Everyone all good but now misses in iso for 2weeks at motel.

Never thought of one of those saws for camping! What do you use for the bigger (wooden) stuff? Or just leave it?

I generally just chase up the deadfall and keep a fairly low key fire going when I’m out. I’ve been thinking about trying out one of the 18v chainsaws, they seem to be able to chew through the thicker stuff while being quiet enough not to disturb the wildlife 👍🏻

@@RoundTheFire just watched your 4 day set up. Yep, can confirm you have NOT included manual labour. Striking this from my raptor camping check list... Will replace with more beer.

Hay Damo, a couple of questions mate: When your charging the 18v battery from your 2nd deep cycle battery do you run it through an inverter back to 240v for the sew charger or have you cut the plug off and connect 12v straight in ? Also, how does your fridge cope with being on the back of the unit with the dust etc ??
@RoundTheFire
@RoundTheFire 4 года назад
Hey mate, the charger I’ve got has a 12v CIG plug attached, it goes straight into my second battery. The fridge handles the rain and dust ok, 4 years hasn’t skipped a beat yet...however the manufacturer recommends this model stays clean and dry

I just really hate having to drag along all the extra stuff to service a chainsaw 👍🏻
