Finally a video that tells me how to put it back together when I took off the entire spool and couldn't get it to lock up again. Thank you for the helpful video.

Dude, this was very very helpful. I've owned my trimmer for a couple months and have had to stop using it because I couldn't get it open. What a PITA I tell you. This trick made all the difference. Thank you!!!!

Thank you for this video! I could not get the replacement head to my Ryobi trimmer to lock. I watched numerous videos, including manufacture’s vid and found no help. I was doing everything the direction said to do. It wasn’t until well into your vid that you explained the locking process and how it worked and how to loosen it up. That did the trick. Good job!

glad I could help. Not everyone is at the same knowledge level so I have to cram in as much info as I can for anyone who needs it! I do try to cut and shorten my videos to the meat of the topic but hey appreciate you hangin out and learning a thing or two :) ~ Work Smart

From a retired outdoor equipment dealer ... how about at least once a month unlock an lock the head to keep it clean an usable, I've used this head for years, you'll won't need the screwdriver.

doubt you've tried to open these ryobi heads by hand. even with pliers they're no walk in the park. this isn't a maintenance thing, this is user interface thing. new out of the box these things are a bear to take off. removing some material allows it to slide easier and open which is needed to clear snags or remove string that has pulled itself in prematurely. same thing goes with the harts I believe. If they are this hard, half the people will return them, the other half may break them trying to open them. I brought my first one back to the store thinking it was jammed or glued from the factory and watched 3 guys at home depot try and fail to open by hand. Hopefully this video encourages people to keep and mod them this way. also perhaps even reach ryobi to slightly alter the head design for slightly easier maintenance.

Things I learned: 1. modifying voids the warranty. 2. you have to modify to get the dang thing to work. 3. people on the internet are weird. All of this is correct.

sounds about right. fortunately we the consumers can modify the tool into what we need vs waiting for the platforms/brands we use to "invent" a small tweak and charge the same or MORE for essentially the same tool the way it should've been to begin with

Absolutely worst purchase trimmer purchase I've made to date. I watched the original video, and this one and after 3 days of fighting this, I got the head off. Goodie. Now I can't get it back on. I'm done. Won't be buying anything Ryobi again.

Definitely understand frustrations with some tool designs but condemning an entire brand because of one tool isn't ideal. When you say get the head off, do you mean opening the head to add new string? What model are you using? If you can't get it back on, as I showed in the video shaving some of the material where the lock engages significantly reduces the force needed to unlock and lock the head

@@TOOL_TECHNICAL I own other RYOBI products that I have never had problems with. But, the fact that I've spent a solid week trying to simply try to figure out how to remove the head of this thing and now can't get it back on and can't take it to get serviced, makes me understand that the amount of customer service you are going to get if you have a problem is nil. I have filed down the edges like you have said. So, I have purchased another trimmer, with a 4 year warrantee and the possibility of having some local help if I need it. It's not the product itself that I have a problem with necessarily, but the fact that there is no customer service when there is one.

@@mrs.donohue9569 ahh I see thank you for sharing that, customer service can truly make or break an experience with anything from food to tools. I know Hawaii has little to no local Ryobi authorized repair locations and having to ship them to the mainland for warranties has many Hawaiians turning their backs on the green tools. I'm just curious as to what exactly is stopping your tool from coming back together. The entire point of Ryobi's EZ reel system was to minimize assembly and frustration.
