I am working on the hay fields every year. I am mowing out the weeds and natives.
The first year I dug out all the mesquite - and there was more than a few. Last year I mowed out the silver night shade and it did a decent job - probably 70% less of that weed.
This year I am mowing out the horsemint and black-eyed susans (coreopsis). If it is yellow in Texas it is likely part of the coreopsis family.
Eventually I will get my mehia fields producing a fairly nice grazing hay. Once I get the weeds mowed out I will overseed the fields as grass can crowd out weeds if given a chance.
