You might be one to answer this question. True lock makes a switch to help lock the magnet side will this permanently lock the front end in or does it still have to slip the rear and will it help keep it locked up so the engine break does not only lock the rear on ice.
Nice video, very good explanation and a lot of answers for me as there is very little info about sprague carrier diffs! Im looking for new diff for my CanAm xxc and the SuperATV Swiftrac is the one Im interested. How durable is this type of diff? Im doing mudraces and XC, sometimes deep mudding and watercrossing.
Sandcraft told me there would be a wear in period after I installed their DIY bullet proof front differential kit. When I go to dive it it feels like the front wheels are struggling to spin in 4x4 did you experience that with your new sandcraft components?
I have a theory. Most people say that they run in 2wd to save on wear and tear on the front diff. The owners manual says the machine can be run in 4wd it's entire life. So if the drive shaft is always turning into the diff and the rollers aren't grabbing wouldn't that wear on your rollers and or basket? I've always thought that with the front wheels pulling its taking half of the strain off the transmission and rear axles. Especially in the trails or hill climbing. Why put all the strain on 2 axles instead of all 4? So am I right that using your front diff more is not bad for it? Just change the oil and you're good right?
Do what you want, if you have a lot of mud, snow, sand just leave the switch on. If it's off the axel still spins everything in the diff, but no power out. So you can still do shitties with the locked back Diff. I have over 7000 miles on my 900 in MN. Lots of snow & lake riding. Never had a problem.
I get slight vibration in 4wd at slow speeds only. Turing gets slightly heavier. I’am not new to off roading but new to RZR’s. Is that normal? Thanks 2018 XP TURBO.
Yes that is some what common partly due to the front diff is strait mounted to the frame. Metal to metal. No rubber isolators to help reduce noise and vibration. I always noticed a vibration or more of a roar. In 4 wheel drive. Also check the drive shaft bearing. It is rubber mounted. It will vibrate some normally. But excessive may need a new bearing. There’s many brand out there that are good many greaseable But also will be more solid mounted which will cause vibration and some noise. I have messed with tons of machines racing and riding and i have learned and tell everyone. If you chase every possible noise you may hear you will never have fun riding. They make noise and such on the normal. So just ride it and check over thing before each ride. When it breaks fix and get back to riding.
