This is just some advice and don't get offended. Shock straps are ment to prevent over extension of 35 degree of angle on cv axles. You need to keep travel for traction in off road conditions. Your current setup during your test was acting more like some strange sway bar . The proper set up for straps in any racing condition is the top of the shock to the base bolt of the shock. Super atv has kits for mounting. I know you guys are on a budget but I'm just shedding some light on the dark area. Also when going around the tree don't hit the gas so hard coming out of the turn. Control is speed. Keep up the hard work guys love your videos. Most importantly have fun as learn new things. No matter what you drive keep on riding
@James Beemer, you are correct about the length of the straps. Straps should be measured with the shocks at full droop, eye hole to eye hole. Then subtract about 2 inches. One inch for stretch, and the other inch for protection against binding the axle cup.
Great vid guys....sous...didnt look like you were having a lot of fun but appreciate seeing you Guinea pig the parts...I love watching you guys go ham on that course.
Y’all are ballin’ with your channel. I’ve sent links of your RU-vid videos to random friends whom are NOT into SxS’s. More times than not, they tell me your projects are being talked about on random car forums. Super stars, keep it going, I appreciate y’all!
HHMMMM! I have always used limiting straps to just keep my suspension from over extending(on my 4x4 truck) I never considered using them to actually limit the ride height. Now I see what would happen if I did. Keep up the great vid's guys.
You guys look fast! The turbo S looked way more composed without the straps. Thanks for trying it though. You both did an amazing job of driving. Also a great testament to the harnesses you have in your car. Glad Nick is ok!
Great video again! It’s good to see that the only damage done in this video were in fact my eyes. Having to look at his choice of foot wear was shocking.
Your supposed to order limiting straps to limit fall out not to adjust hight. For what you guys are doing ride hight plus 4”inches would give you the suspension you want
Agree 100% , unless you are running a completely flat course, that is the wrong direction. Up side though, Leo...props! I've seen guys roll that were no were near as composed as you. I know you got shaken a bit and it's expected, but you held together pretty dam well. @sxsblog
And that's why we can't have nice things.. been there! Great video again guys. I'd be interested to see what the rzr would have done with another inch or two of strap length to give it a little more travel while still being low. Probably wouldn't have bounced as much. Maybe just a stiffer sway bar??Can't wait to see what went on at Drummond, awesome place to ride!
Great video guys, testing and tuning is where it's at! We're all learning from you guys, at your expense lol! You have the best sxs videos on RU-vid ! FACT !!!!!!
Well you know what they say, when it's all said and done, the good thing about that is... still fast enough to win 2 years in a row ;) loving the frequent and longer videos. keep them coming gents!
The into music reminds me of a saftey video music for work!! Love the vids by the way, you guys have inspired me to buy my first side by side. A 2029 rzr 1000xp 4!!
Great video! Glad Leo was ok and the car too! Those straps confused me. They seemed like a good idea but after watching how much it bounced, probably not. They must be better for flat track racing. You tried it so now you know. Hey wait, no weigh in? Lol
No polaris side by sides were injured in the making of this film. However the CanAm did not fair so well! All kidding aside, glad you are okay. A guy out here nearly lost his arm from a similar crash. I’m thinking nets are in the future. Safety dudes!
Yes, build a race car for desert races. You guys have plenty of people who would volunteer to help support you at the races and you guys could be the drivers. It would be awesome seeing you guys race in BITD or Score.
Hey guys, I lost 51 pounds using the app loseit. Still drank beer, just calorie counting. I learned a lot about the crap I used to eat and what to stay away from. Good luck!! Doug has the least amount of weight to lose. You guys should do percentages instead of straight weight loss. It’s more even.
I couldn't stop saying to myself during that install, that it is too limited on travel. maybe add some 2' long flatbar extensions at the top mounts?? Try limiting the travel just a bit, not so aggressively. little bits can help a lot. You guys kill it!!! Keep it coming!!
I love it guys look forward to your show. With all the accessories Honda has for the Talon what does it sound like with a nice open exhaust. Can you get one likes on the Turbo S where you can go quiet or full open??
Hey guys that bounce could be due to rebound too... To much shock rebound shoots the suspension back out to fast and will give you "bounce". Just my 2 cents. Love all the work!
Rodney Duran Yes. I race a yxz and been looking to get limiting straps. They should just adjust crossovers to the ride height they want (even if the springs come loose) and have the limiting straps adjusted to the length to where the shock extends as much as possible without all the springs coming loose.... they are using the limiting straps as a tool to achieve ride height.
Racin Silva - I came here to say just that but you beat me to it. Their current set-up doesn’t need limit straps because the shock still has some pre-load.
Good video guys enjoy it as always, one thing to consider the limit straps stretch over a little riding and need to be adjusted, it would be nice to have an adjuster bolt of some sort to pull the strap as it stretches to keep it in specs
I did the same thing as Leonard, unfortunately, I wasn’t so lucky. Hit my left leg so hard on the drivers side door causing me to not be able to walk for almost a week. Took out my whole left side of the unit along with breaking the frame on both doors drivers doors on my max. Glad your ok Nick!
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet but have you thought of running the straps without the sway bars? The straps will limit the body roll and not having the sway bars will let the machine use what travel it has independently. I bet you'd be surprised with what you'll get ;-)
I’d love to see you guys build a true Drag car with another billet 2JZ and find another vehicle that has never had this swap a conquer the new challenge:) SXS Blog channel is growing great
Keep limit straps for their intended purpose, and if you don't want em, I'll take em....lol I hate the sound of my shocks topping out, it makes me cringe Everytime😎. Also... The gauntlet is shaping up to be pretty sweet! And I just wanted to give you guys a big "HELL YA!" for letting full throttle have all the glory on their race day vid! It was a good gesture and probably helped them get a few more subs!!! Go team Michigan 👊
The straps in the front need to be 16inch or 17inch, the front needs a bit of travel for cornering. having no travel is horrible as ya'll can see now. If there is a next time give that a try.
Frikkin' LeFlippo! The FLIP FLOP must have given him bad luck... Luckily he had only one. He would have probably flipped on his roof if he had both the flip flops? Maybe limit straps of some other length would have helped Sous to get the time lower. I think the straps should allow for some droop, but not too much (no proper knowledge behind this, just thinking about the options/possibilities). But don't the limit straps confuse the Dynamix system, since it probably doesn't sense that the machine is jumped? So it doesn't stiffen up the shocks when the machine is jumped? Probably isn't that big of a problem in Firm mode but in Comfort... Maybe? Anyway great video as always, keep it up guys! A great combination of information and fun
great vid guys. I say if budget allows, build a capable sxs to run, maybe... the mint 400??? baja 500???? you have already been a chase crew and even pre ran events. you guys can do it! support the blog!!
Hey dudes that's cool you doing this month challenge If you don't notice I comment on every video, I just lost 44lbs in 37 days today, and I just do under 1800 calories a day and take this stuff called Garcinia cambogia like a plant thing but I started at 285 I feel so much better I hope u guys will too! You guys need to come up to Montana and drive and camp the benbo trail!
The straps are to short. It’s hard to explain this in a text. Jack the UTV up off the ground. Look at your half shafts and look for signs of them trying to be pulled out do to over travel. Once you see the what the limit is shorten the straps up till you don’t see the half shafts have no signs of being pulled out. I hope this helps.
I would like to see how the handling is when you take some air out of the front tires. A couple pounds can make a big difference allowing grip at the same time I also would like to see what happens with straps on the front only and straps on the back. Nick glad to see you're OK keep up the good work I enjoy what you guys do.
If you fast for 2 days a week, you can drop about 30 pounds in the span of a month. I did it 4 days a week and dropped 80 pounds in a few months, like 3 tbh. You feel like your starving at the beginning but the feeling tapers off as the body grows accustomed to the change.
That’s not how you use limit straps. They should only ever be tight to prevent over extension. All you all did was turn your 16” travel into 6” with all of it up travel. I’m glad nicks ok, but wth is on your feet haha
Great video. How wide is the turbo s now that it’s lowered ??? You guys are cutting that turn to tight. Go wider. Look at the video of sous when he broke the record. He was going wider.
Boys! I got the name for Leo's new unit.... The La Croix . It summons leo up at a whole.. classy but yet still can burn it down and party (the feeling of drinking it) 😂
Talk to a Fastenal rep and have them supply you was all the bolts you need and spacers and anything else you can imagine when it comes to hardware. I worked for a very large company that built heavy duty boom trucks if it wasn't welded it was bolted with bolts from Fastenal.
I have a difference of opinion when it comes to fasenal. They make very high quality bolts yes they are expensive but when it comes to trusting a bolt I want to make sure it's not going to break.
Great episode, but the wrong tires for short course racing. I go to most of the Lucas Oil races and they run softer Hoosiers that are cut. Check them out.
