Good day Dr.john !...from the Philippines. I really now understand those two assesment with the primary and secondary survey :) And All those years I thought that the SAMPLE was for medical emergencies only. And HEAD TO TOE assesment with inculde (DCAPBTLS) was for truma pt only.now I clearly understand ,and that help me to more elaborate and discuss In my firstaid lecture.thank you so much Dr.john ..GOD BLESS :)
Well done for watching it all, I guess everyone needs a patent airway, to be breathing , to have circulation, etc. so it seems to me it applies to all situations. I think its amateur of being sytamaitic in all cases. Thinking about L, I get lots of patients in with dehydration, UTIs, postural hypotension etc who simply don't drink enough.
Excellent upload, Dr. Campbell. Although I do have a question. You stated the secondary examination may be carried out when: - The primary survey is completed - Rescuscitative efforts are underway - Normalisation of vital functions have resumed Did you mean after all of these things are covered? It seems situational. I was just confused when it comes to the resuscitation because if chest compressions were being undertaken I wouldn't imagine much checking could be done until they were complete and independent patient cardiac function was restored. Perhaps I just misunderstood. Also, your talk inspired another question. In the event of a traumatic injury to the chest such as those seen in car crashes wherein the patient was travelling without a seatbelt and managed to suffer extensive thoracic injuries as well as a cardiac arrest, how is the heart restarted? Since chest compressions seem to be out of the question, would the attending medical professional resort to good old fashioned manual cardiac massage? 🤔 Thanks a lot 😁
Rescuscitative efforts means treatment is being given, such as IV fluid resuscitation, or oxygen, or haemorrhage control. If someone was being given CPR, then by definition they would not be physiologically stable, and you would still be at C in the ABCDE. Therefore if you had not finished ABCDE you would not be going on to the secondary survey. Having said that, consideration of SAMPLE may give indicators as to the cause of a cardiac arrest, such as hypothermia, or toxins, or an existing medical condition.
Your second question is complicated, but ABC take priority. Do you have access to ATLS guidelines, where this is discussed? Also remember CPR is not given to restart the heart, its ACLS that does that, not BLS.
@@Campbellteaching you may remember, Dr Campbell, (I mentioned in one of my other comments, one of the hundreds you get 😋 ) that I am just a self studying student at the moment facing the behemoth of medicine. I love your videos but I am not really advanced and haven't access to the things you mentioned. I'm nowhere near even the first year of a medical or nursing course as of yet. This is just an area of interest and I like to contribute and get involved in the topics you discuss. I will try to check the things you listed though. Thank you very much for your comprehensive response, I really appreciate you taking the time 😊
@@Dazzletoad The questions you ask show a good level of understanding, insight and logical thought processes. This means as you acquire more knowledge and experience you have the potential to become a good medical thinker. Not everyone has this.
