#5thGenRam #Cummins #ColdAirIntake Installing a S&B Cold Air Intake onto my 2021 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins. First reaction? Can definitely hear the turbo and engine brake more! Whatcha think? _ IG: j_wargo
I always ran cold air intakes on my trucks. I’ve noticed better throttle response better sound and better mpg. Not only that it makes the engine bay look nicer! 👍
Thanks for the video. Besides sound the whole idea with a new air intake is cooler air temperatures. I am wondering what the temp reading differences from stock to your S&B are? Can you please give us the Intake Air Temp readings? Thank you
I just ordered this S&B intake for my 22' 3500 cummins. I've never had one on a diesel before, but always installed the K&N ones on my Hemi's in the past. Excited!
Hey I need help with my intake I’m having problems with codes saying service exhaust system but I put everything on the same way you did and the sensors how it came on the stock one
I agree. I could trip my air intake sensor on a new stock air filter just by pulling out and passing on a hill the sensor would trip the dash light to tell me to replace my air intake filter. My S&B filter never does that. So the stock filter is choking your engine plus the cost on a stock air filter is off the chart.
I'd like to add, if anyone has problems with check engine lights, it was probably because they didn't disconnect the negative battery cable before they unplugged the sensors and that is what caused the issue. Disconnect the cable, then gently disconnect your sensors and be careful with them, I wrapped mine in clean rags as I removed them. Perform the installation, yes getting the filter on the end of the tube with the filter in the air box is a pain in the ass, but have a small flat blade screwdriver available to help get the last of the filter lip over the tube. After that its pretty easy. Here's some recommendations: If you even think you might be close to needing to change your serpentine belt, do it while you have the box out. Per alldata, you should remove the airbox to change the belt anyway. I have a 2020 Ram 3500 and I wish I would have thought about doing that when I did my install. As far as sound goes, I rarely hear the turbo but I definitely have a deeper growl with the engine brake, but I do tow a lot with my truck.
I got a 2022 as soon as they get the tunes released for it I’m deleting mine I wonder if they fixed the head issue with them on my earlier 6.7 I blew the head and the fuel plug due to increased pressure all I had was a H&S mini max on it
It’s the cleanable filter.. I know a lot of guys don’t like them, but I’ve been running cleanable filters on a few of the other vehicles and have never had any issues.
@@JohnWargo93 Right on. Yah I like the idea of having the cleanable filter. Thanks again for the video and I look forward to pickin one of these intakes up!
I run mine without the window and get around 13.5 mpg . I put the window and the side plug on and ended up at 12.7 mpg. Only difference is more throttle response with the window but I hear the turbo n all that the same 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks for making this video..I was kind of on the fence about getting on for my diesel and I think you pretty much sold me on it. If it gets me me more noise I'm in Lol!!
My wife has a 21 Ram Rodeo 2500 Diesel. I've got a question about these cold air intakes from BANKS and S&B. I understood from your video about the intake baffle and the directional air it provides to the turbo, and that if the baffle is removed then air displacement to the turbo is deficient and causes stress on the bearings. These two brands eliminate the baffle, so are these causing possible harm to the turbo? Your comments are greatly appreciated.
Oddly enough, the 5th Gen trucks don’t even have that come baffle that the previous generation trucks did.. I was surprised myself. Must’ve done away with it at some point. I feel like 80% of diesel truck guys run a cold air intake without any issues. Mines been golden thus far 👌🏼
@@JohnWargo93 bro - you weren’t lying! Turbo screams! 😎 but i had to take the whole intake assembly out, I thought I could just squeak the box in without doing that but not enough room.
Thanks for the post. Off topic, but my 2020 has never given me that regen notification in the center dash. It has 30k miles so I know it has regen'd but never recieved notification? Thoughts?
Question can the front engine bay shroud that sit above the radiator in front fit on a 2021 1500 Rebel I want to get that ram air scoop that you have e
I’m not too sure how the engine bay is setup on the 1500s to be honest 🤔 Sure someone on a Facebook group for Rebels will be able to answer that for ya!
@@JohnWargo93 yeah probably I don’t Facebook tho lol. All good I just ordered a radiator upper seal tonight and going to just try it out. If anything maybe I will be able to mod it some to use if not just another part to add to my list of parts for m trying to sell . Thank for replying. I’d just like to take full advantage of the S&B box air intakes it has. Not to much of a fan of just open filtering it in the engine bay either. To much heat even tho the box can trap some and not to meantion the intakes don’t really add that much just help with sound
Hey John, I have been hesitant to install mine since getting it in. My dealer was back and forth about whether I could do it, got two different answers, asking two different people in the service department. Have you had any issues with it effecting your warranty or them denying you warranty work?
Hey man! Honestly I’m not sure.. I voided my warranty long ago now with the weight loss. However, I’ve run intakes on a lot of my other vehicles as well. Best bet is if you added one, swap it back out to the OEM intake for warranty service. I did that once with my Silverado when I took it in for some recalls. Sucks to do the extra work, but worth it so they don’t say anything about it! Lol
@@JohnWargo93 Right on, yeah, mine is too new to be voiding anything lol. S&B is going to send me info to help me with my decision. So I reckon we shall see.
@@kansasjake1223 I’m pretty positive that S&B went through tons of lawsuits to prove that a CAI will not and should not void a manufacturer warranty. Might be something about it in their website.
@@JohnWargo93 there is, I'm just torn because regardless of what the law says, they cab just tie you up in court if they really want to, then you just lose no matter what lol.
i seen that S&B has redesigned the down pipe with a baffle to replicate the factory intake. the ones that were throwing codes did not have the baffle in them .
I always buy the wet filter. I think it’s more of a preference more than anything. I treat it like my dirt bikes, oil the filter and let it catch the dirt.
Gotta be honest, I did the intake and then 2 weeks later deleted the truck.. so I’m not entirely too sure just with intake. Never went into it when I just had it itself. Check out 2nd to latest video on the channel with high idle and delete! Either way, I take is worth it in my opinion. For sound alone! But can’t complain about the better throttle response and slight gain in fuel mileage!
I think you hear more sound with the windows up in general actually.. with windows down you can definitely here some but you also hear a lot of wind noise!
Anybody who says that the factory air intake is better than the aftermarket air intake has never talked to Gail Banks or seen his videos they're very ignorant...
Straight from S&B website in the FAQ's section: Installing an S&B Intake Kit or Filter will not void your vehicle's warranty as long as you properly install and maintain your intake/filter. It is illegal for a dealership to void your warranty based solely on the fact that you have installed an aftermarket product. Your rights are protected by the Consumer Product Warranties Law, often referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. If a dealer threatens to void your warranty, S&B will step in to assist you. "S&B commits that our customers will not be charged for a repair due to the manufacturer denying their warranty claim because of the presence of an S&B intake kit or OE replacement filter. We warrant that using an S&B intake kit or OE filter will not result in the denial of your vehicle’s warranty.
@@destiny1901 3 actually… the smaller “tradesman” style one, the 8.4” screen I have, and then the full 12”… I was just asking what Mr. Davis was referring to when the video is about a CAI system and whatnot. Also, maybe he means speaker system? Which would be false because I have the upgraded Alpine 9 speaker system with sub.
@@JohnWargo93 just now seeing but i also have the alpine system etc but you have the bigger gauge cluster but mine just has the fancier head unit ( gloss finish around it ) just trying to figure out why bc I really want that gauge cluster set up lol
No sir. Throw one on all of my vehicles. S&B actually has a team of lawyers who fight dealerships if they try to claim that it does. Also…. Can always swap it out for the stock box if it needs to go to the dealership to be safe ✌🏼
Yeah you could hear the engine break more and some more turbo noice in the cab. Not crazy though. A normal person not listening for it probably won’t recognize it. You will though listening for it.
@@spaniky73 eh the only way to get proper HP and TQ gains is to tune the truck for it. Can be placebo, but I felt like throttle response and turbo spool were both a little quicker. I do them on all my trucks. Have a video on RU-vid with my Silverado with a few hundred thousand views showing the data before and after the intake. Gained almost 2mpg with the gas truck after adding a CAI. No crazy gains on the Cummins though.
@JohnWargo93 Thank you. That is what I was looking for. I plan to buy a 5th Gen HO dually later this year. My current truck is a modified 3rd gen 5.9. Just trying to see what kind of Non warranty voiding mods are doing to these trucks.
Under the hood nothing is cold how they can call it cold air intake 😂,,,the best way to try 'em is not only by talking but putting it on a dyno b4 and after,,
