A very interesting video and I was impressed by the performance of the HW100. I do think that all pellets needed to be weighed because otherwise you add a random, unaccounted (as in not corrected) variable into the experiment. I would also look a little but more at the production detail of the video ... one or two errors in there. But it is a fascinating area and this is the first video I have seen that has tackled this subject, so thank you for all that effort. As I said, very interesting.
Something to consider if you use a handpump rather than the scuba's super-dry air. A section 5 and air gun specialist gunsmith told me he spent most of his remedial air rifle time on fixing duff regulators. Regs are more susceptible to moisture than any other part of a PCP it seems and soon get badly corroded especially the bell washer type. Not the same worries with an unregulated gun although the manometer is possibly more prone to corrosion than other components.
Another good one. The only thing I'd say is plain card/paper is better for seeing groups. The splatter targets obscure the hits. In my humble opinion of course.
Great vid. Comparing my HW100KT and unregulated S510 Carbine, both are capable of equal accuracy if tuned properly. Mine both achieve a standard deviation of about 2fps with QYS or Bisley pellets. I really love the extra adjustment the regulator gives me, but if you don't understand how to tune then properly you can put some proper dips and spikes in the power "curve".
This is 100% correct, my hft500 I filled to 200bar, by mistake, at 30 yards it was shooting half mil dot low, I dry fired it down to 180 bar, spot on, brilliant gun, I shot 57 ex 60 at Cambridge hft shoot. just wish AirArms would make it in .22
'settling the reg'... hmm, with my TX200 (hunting) I sometimes forget to warm the spring up (2-3 shots)... and then am not surprised if I miss my first bunnie....
Cheers Gary and albeit my PCPks are regulated, I’d have no issue going forward buying unregulated. Question: I noted that your chrono (same type as mine) was not close to the rifle muzzle. Is there a right distance or is it chrono dependent? I ask as I guess that the further it is from the muzzle then the velocity of the pellet is on the decrease. Great video. Why don't you wear glasses when you shoot? I use multifocals and it hasn't given me a problem. and i can use the left eye to see the wind etc. Thank you very much, regards
Hi Gary great video, however I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. I have an Ultimate Sporter R I haven’t ever tested this theory however I feel I that it is less affected by temperature shift than my non regulated guns, what’s your thoughts?
Hi Gary Was thinking of buying air arms HFT 500, for target shooting. Would this be an upgrade on my BSA 10? Which does shoot fairly good. I have seem a lot of guys shooting HFT 500 and s400 MPR FT and other more expensive ones, at my local club. Is it worth investing in one? Great video and very informative, by the way. 👍 Wayne
