S&G 826C Padlock with Medeco Classic core from Skorne42. Picked to control and gutted. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I was working on a lock or a Buick.

I enjoyed every minute of that. Great picking (really masterful stuff) and what a fantastic looking Lock. Reminds me a little of the Ingersol Impregnable in terms of shape and size :-)

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the kind words. I'm not familiar with the Ingersol locks... I'll have to check them out.

Hmm. I am a bypass person. I can't tell you how happy I am to have stumbled across your channel? I had never heard of you before. I've watched hundreds of hours of Deviant and LPL and BB, etc.. I can't wait to watch your videos.

Hey there, thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad you are enjoying my videos. I've not picked any locks in some time, so I don't think my stuff rises to the top of the recommended videos very often these days. Anyhow, glad you're here and I hope you enjoy my silly antics :)

I find the Medeco more difficult CCW than CW: great picking, Bravo! ;)
@tumbl3r
@tumbl3r 7 лет назад
I do too. I've heard people say it's easier CCW, but I like to be able to isolate the sheer line first. I find it gives me more opportunity to fix improperly rotated pins later in the process.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words! This lock was fun to pick clockwise, but I really struggled with it CCW. Tough to get a control pick on it for some reason.

Thanks man! I think it's always important to continue to challenge yourself. For example, I never really bothered to learn CCW Medeco picking, and I needed that skill in this case. Amazing how locks will humble you, LOL.

A rather late comment, but to remove the core you have to lock the padlock with the shackle open. Then, that tailpiece will rotate and make it easier to remove. In case you get another one of these locks. ;-)

Thanks! I learned putting it back together why it was so greasy. The key hangs up a bit on the way out unless there is a lot of lubrication in the lock. I've never seen such an oily, messy lock.

It would make these videos much more informative (for those learning) if you explained what you were doing and what you were feeling while you were picking the lock. It would also cover the minutes of silence for those of us who want to watch all the way through to make sure there aren't any cuts. ;)
@tumbl3r
@tumbl3r 7 лет назад
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I always try to do an abstract in the beginning where I explain the higher-level concepts on how I will approach the lock. There are so many channels out there who give pin-by-pin commentary that I kind of wanted to do something a bit different. Besides that, I'm not sure how valuable it would be with these high security locks, since picking them is far more conceptual than it is mechanical. I really appreciate the feedback though, and I will experiment with some ways to fill the silence. Thanks so much for watching :)

Hey man, how have you been? I'm still around. Just not picking much these days. Sorta getting more into the tool making aspect of things. Hopefully I'll have some videos on that once I get good enough to justify it.

Doing great, thanks for asking.. Doing a bit of locksmithing here in my building.. Hope to apply at a few places soon. Man, I love tool making.. When Im not lockpicking or watching lockpicking videos, I watch machinist stuff. TOT, Abomb Ox tools, the list goes on.. Man I have a quick question.. I want to get into manipulation.. What lock should I get? any group 2 S&G ? I don't know much about those locks..I do know a bit about the manipulation technique but I don't want to get the easiest one, but then again I don't want to start with a really difficult one either.
@RookieLock
@RookieLock 6 лет назад
I was looking at the S&G 6741, but like I said, I don't know much about the different models.. Is this a good middle ground lock to start with? I don't want something too easy, I like to set the bar high, lol, but I don't want something too hard..
@tumbl3r
@tumbl3r 6 лет назад
That's the lock I started with. From what I can tell, Group 2 locks are basically Group 2 locks. LeGard, S&G, etc are all going to be about the same difficulty.
@RookieLock
@RookieLock 6 лет назад
Awesome, that the info I was looking for.. And also what I was thinking.. but on S&G's website some of the group 2 locks say "Tested against expert manipulation for 20 man-hours." and some don't say that.. The 6741 doesn't say that.. But whats the difference between group 2 and group 2m ? anyway, Thanks for taking the time to help me out and answer my questions buddy.. It really means a lot to me..

Great pick. Never apologize for a Medico pick being too long. I still hesitate to try the one in my naughty bucket! As a technique do you lift then turn them? I'd have to go with S&G being a high security lock after watching this video. Seems like they're owned by Stanley Security. Tempted to buy one of these S&G's off EBAY just to own one.
@tumbl3r
@tumbl3r 7 лет назад
Thanks so much for your kind words! I've picked enough Medeco these days that I feel like anything over three or four minutes is really too long. However, I really never bothered to learn the CCW picking method which requires you to decode the sidebar first, before lifting the pins, which is why this one took me so long. The CW Vs. CCW picking technique is fairly different, and it's a reminder to me that I cannot justifiably feel like I've mastered a hi-sec lock until I can use a variety of techniques to open them. I could have picked it open CCW and then used the control key to disassemble, but I have so many videos opening Medeco cores CW, that I thought everyone might enjoy me struggling a little more to open one in a different way. Besides, this way I never needed to unwrap the key, LOL. Glad you enjoyed the video, my friend. Thanks for watching!

I was using a 0.018 Peterson Gem. I almost always use the Gem profile on Medeco cores because the tip really helps with pin rotation.

Just curious but which lock did you find more challenging between the 3ks,medeco and as assa twin? Thanks in advance
@tumbl3r
@tumbl3r 7 лет назад
I think I'd put them in this order with #1 being most difficult: #1: ASSA Twin 6000 with original Gin Bottle Spools, #2: EVVA 3KS Plus, #3 ASSA Twin Combi, #4: ASSA Twin 6000 with new Barrel Spools, #5 Schlage Primus, #6: Medeco Biaxial, #7: Medeco Classic.

Hey, I realize this video is pretty old at this point. But I have one of these at our shop that we've been trying to pick for the past month or so. Would you be interested in helping us out? I'm not sure if you still make videos at this point, but we would be happy to send you some odd stuff in addition to the S&G to help out.

I've pretty much stopped picking at this point, and unlike riding a bike, the skills fall apart pretty quickly. There are a lot of great active pickers out there though, and I bet they would be willing to open this for you. In particular, I can recommend CorrectJeans. I know him personally and he's a better pciker than I ever was: ru-vid.com/show-UC6j3vY77jqqWclEZ-UkBoQw
