By this time, both Monster and Lil Monster had started to mature and outgrow the gang activity. Monster had already written his book, and Lil Monster was more working to stop the violence.
I see why Both Kody and Sean are so smart their Mother speaks very proper and educated. Damn Mr Joe don't break my heart with your outlook on the world ,we just don't have enough sense to live in such a beautiful world. ( Brought tears to my eyes to hear him talk I know people who have hada stroke).
Love you to my sister trust and believe that there is a sitting supernatural black army waiting for the right time to conquer and I mean supernatural to be continued
This needs to be shared a billion times, phenomenal piece and very raw.. The single father truly touched my heart!! It’s nice to see not only a man of color but a man period fulfilling both roles as the protector AND nurturer!
S HEAD DA TERRORIST exacto... but this sheds a lot of light on the effects of joining a gang and it’s negative impact on society, family, and ones destiny.. these kids today are so desensitized I’m glad I was born in 82 and have some sense
Nefertiti Blanco strongly agree!!...i was born in 89 I barely caught something i guess lol i just got outta prison 8 months ago from doing 11yrs and 2months for a bank robbery im barely get bk on
@@sheaddaterrorist6679 listen shit happens ppl make mistakes I was married to an outlaw biker and I honestly believe ppl can change and their past shouldn't be held against them
Crime comes from ones own upbringing or decisions made by said individual. I was a gang member and served my whole youth 13 to 19 yrs old in c.y.a. in the end I had to man up and acknowledge it was all my doing. Gang members truly exist out of ignorance, laziness, and image. Facts. When I woke up I began working. Ten years later I'm a successful business owner, I still work on my hands and knees installing floors, not easy work. But I own a home and spend my life now enjoying my freedoms. America is great to those who work for it, not just a handout that handicaps you. Stop complaining, get to work and enjoy the fruits of your labor. God bless us all
What you did is dope but dont act like gangs are some low functioning ass niggas that wont accomplish shit cause you couldn't be solid as a gangster and a man. Some people cant do both & have to pick
We STILL need ELDERS to raise us..even as ADULTS...they made it..they SURVIVED..made it to be OLD...these youngstas nowdays dont listen to the OGs...so we have a ton of YOUNG FOOLS wit ZERO RESPECT..Every black man child needs a Mr. Joe...daddy or not...hes a Priceless gift..we need MORE MEN LIKE HIM
Even though I CRIP now that I am old I remember my Mom telling me to leave the streets alone. The streets cost me more than I can say. It all so cost me America. Damn I hate the streets
Gangbanging was just like this in 90s. Growing up in LA in the late 80s and 90s was treacherous... shooting people and getting shot at... we were desensitized as if it were a real life video game.
lyfe 1zruff wrong buddy! I’m from Los Angeles, California. Based on my life experience and journey through Los Padrinos, Central, Sylmar juvenile halls, Camp Miller, YA and almost losing my life on multiple occasions... I’ll tell you, youngster - go take out the trash before your mom takes your Xbox away.
@@drum7132 how are you blaming her? She stayed when their father left. She was there when they were going to jail, being shot at, shot, etc. Their father wasn't.. Their father was a coward he chose to walk away from his children. Even if him and the mother weren't together, he did NOT have to leave his children too. He could of still been in their lives without being involved with the mother. Why are you blaming the parent that stayed? Smh you sound stupid.
U can see the killa in them. They was young too. Real gangsta. These little kids now will never know how it was. They think its a game. LEARN FROM THIS and DONT PLAY WITH IT!
@@OKletsgetitPodcast They wasn’t gangster, they was stupid. Gangster is when you can own your enemies property and dictate everything from paperwork. We gotta change the meaning of gangster cuz this wasn’t gangster, it was senseless and as pure usual we never took responsibility for pulling the trigger on one another, instead we pointed the finger at caucasians when really they didn’t even need to physically do anything cuz we doing it to each other till this day
Great Lakes shut yo punk ass up if you got comments like that keep em to yoself homeboy!!..bkuzz i bet and promise 2 god if u seen me or any niigas in this video UP CLOSE AND PERSON.. BELIEVE ME YOULL LOOX THE OTHER WAY OR YOULL TRY 2 SHAKE HANDS AND BE FRIENDS!!..YOU WOULDNT SAY WAT YOU SAY SOMETHING ON THE NET NIGGA!!
@@8BallBroadway you right if they made a movie it would be watered down the book is too raw and it would be weak me personally think if they made a movie it should be true to the book and leave all the hardcore elements in it basically it should show the horrors of gang life im tired of them sugarcoating it i never banged im from clarksville tenn but im familiar with gang culture .
She left the father that's when shit went down hill. My wife left me and took my five year old daughter. And won't allow me to speak to her. If you read this please pray for my daughter Zayda Wilson
K Mcleod regardless of the man or woman leaving, what difference does that make on the clear evidence of the absence of the black father in the home? Playing semantics with no logical justification for it
When Dude said “I feel like killing somebody, ... Well yesterday too.” If that doesn’t give you the real feeling of what gang life is like idk what will
I read Monster’s book in 1995. I was in (Paso Robles)California Youth Authority. I was also in Preston, YTS, then I went to Fire Camp before parole. Today I’m a Firefighter/Paramedic...
@@therealityofthings9574 lol, yo! You never watched the first “Friday the 13th” flick??? She’s creepy and delusional and saw/sees no wrong in her babies(baby) whether he’s a serial killer/sociopath/psychopath to that mother her baby is still the apple of her eyes…even if he got 50 bodies buried somewhere….THAT VIBE 💯
Some women don’t understand what fathers mean to there son’s... and as a result Kody’s will eventually turn into Monsters. We go through some much being a black man anywhere in the world but no one will ever know how it feels it’s just a burden that only we feel and bare.
I remember watching this on British TV years ago - looking back at this now I can appreciate the wisdom and depth of Kershaun and Kody's Mother. Incredible woman.
Case Klozed naw I joined the other side bkuzz thats were i stayed homie period!!..now far as him being a snitch tbh idk its rumors but thats it ITS NO PAPER WORK SURFACING NO WERE)..BUT LIKE I SAID IDK AND REALLY CARELESS IF HE IS THATS ON HIM..THAT SHIT AINT GOT NOTHING TO DO WIT ME NONE!!..IM STATUE SOLID
@@JDubThaMenacePCB This is true. I visited L.A. and it seemed like every block we hit, the gang signs were different and some of the blocks were divided by just one block.
Carlo gambino you know how many parents tried their HARDEST to raise their kids right in LA in those times because they were aware of the gang warfare, like she said a parent can't hold their child's hand 24 hrs straight, and a child is going to want to go outside and play with friends, gang members were a product of their environment, they either picked it up in the neighborhood or even at school, it was plan from the elite and it worked out exactly like they wanted it to. I guarantee you if any of these gang members grew up in Beverly Hills instead of South Central they would've had a totally different life, it's all about what your surrounded by, it's not always the parents fault.
Such tender and sweet people ,every single one in this doc.I really mean it,so sensitive and caring. That is why they fight so hard and vicious on impulse.
Raymond washington is not responsible for gangs. I think there have always been gangs. There have always been tribalism. There has always been crime syndicates. There has always been a desire for brotherhood. I think Raymond Washington just gave them a name. If he was never born things wouldn’t me much different. Maybe they just wouldnt wear blue. Not sure. He didnt invent gang culture. Sure he was influential in unifying sets.
right back at ya you’re prolly white, not proud to be black because of what they’ve done but because of what they’ve become and how much they have grown fool.
I’m a half a century old and I live with so much regret knowing that I put my mother through this she’s gone now and I believe that I played a part in that reason that she is a mother can only take so much anguish and stress pain sorrow she buried her first son 1981And after that shortly I become something that was never intended to be …a gang member
“Its safer to be at peace then to be at war” this reminded me when nipsey said “Would you rather be at peace with the world and at war with yourself? or at war with the world and at peace with yourself?”
I’m in love with their mother and her accent /phrasings. Hilarious, vibrant and witty woman. “Beg your pardon I didn’t ALLOW him to join anything!” “I told him he could be a Crîp alright I’ll break his legs!” “I couldn’t sit here and hold his hand all day we would’ve gotten sick of one another!” 😂😂
The struggle is real! I learned this living it. As a people who have been oppressed we must seek out our own path to success self reliance and true peace. Banging is away to connect with like minded individuals but its a self destructive way of life. One will realize this after its to late. Prison will teach you this real quick. So many of us gone and washed up. Much Respect to all stay up.
Im so glad you posted this cause i was looking all over the Internet for this documentary, came back to youtube & typed in lil monster name & bam there it is, show appreciate it salute 🤜🏾🤛🏾💯 @sheaddaterrorist
This is a dope azz doc. Stay positive Bruh and much respect. It’s deeper than people think. Coming from Oakland I’ve always had a close view to what goes down out there in LA nd I read tookie’s book but I never read monster Kody’s book ,that’s on my list now for sure
Monster and PIMP were the 1st 2 books I read that I didn’t have to read for school ! My uncle stayed in Next to Slauson swap meet and later Inglewood and coming from Chicago I couldn’t wait to go to visit him that shit was so fun! I love the way they mom talked Iike Eartha Kitt seemed like a Very good Woman
Their mother was clearly a wonderful lady of strength and integrity. She loved her boys with every fibre of her being. She has probably passed on by now, reunited with her son Kody. RIP
I love this whole family. Ms Birdie had so much class. Monster is a very intelligent young man who got caught up in the street life. I actually think he would be a wonderful professor. Lil monster what can I say he is a loyal brother to a fault. A great brother and a friend.
92 riots are still to this day an event I will never forget. My father would tell me why this was happening and I couldn't believe the way African AMERICANS were and are treated in this country. It is something I explain to my kids...
“We have a beautiful world but the people don’t have sense enough to live in it.”. There is some truth right there. That applies to every culture that has ever existed. It takes people so much time to improve and learn from our mistakes. Sometimes when i think about American History and some of the terrible things that have happened i. it I wonder how it is possible that people can make such egregious mistakes. Look at how many people have been treated so unfairly and have suffered. And every bit of it was unnecessary. None of it had to happen.
I swear y'all same shit here I owe the library a lot of money I had tookey book I had monsters kody and also ordered all the Donald goines I can't order no more book till I pay that money back lol
There was an interview with Ted Coppell and he talked with lil monster in that very park. I remember a rival gang passed by in a funeral line throwing up signs.
brother you are hinting at something but not looking at the entire picture.. me being from the west side of Chicago. what do you call a disorder that you continuously have to return. Post means past meaning the tragic event is over.. We continue to live and relive insane events.. PEACE Brother
When your parent and or parents have done their best and are left with nothing more than prayer to prayerfully get you through. She was honest and accountable as a mother.
latch key kids on the west side of south central. The reason gangbanging spread so fast. Middle class parents always at work had no idea the secondary family void was being filled by the gangs. Passion anger and self hate fueled into a cycle that would be gang violence.
Wow I remeber watching this in the early 90s after the riots happened. They showed this on a major network /prime time back then. That LA gang culture was so new to everyone outside LA/California. It was unbelievable at the time what these cats were doing and going through. LA changed the game in the early 90s.
Gang culture wasn't new to ppl outside of L.A. bloods and crips not even the oldest gang Hollywood promoted bloods and crips this could have happened in a lot of other cities if Hollywood was in every state.
@@gmoney313. I know overall some people were aware of the gang culture in the 80s. I live in Chicago so we’ve had a history of organized gang culture since the Capone days. What I’m saying is that up until the early 90s/late 80s MOST people in mainstream “regular “ America that didn’t live in big gang cities like Chicago and LA were totally unaware of gang culture until AFTER Hollywood made movies (ie, colors ) and gangsta rap got super popular. Then people were seeing specifically how LA gangs were wild and crazy because they had that Wild West mentality. Chicago gangs were more organized and were checked by the Mob if they got too wild or out of hand.
I used to live on Florence and Normandie in south central and I remember my neighbors they were from etg and I would hang out with them cause I was cool I'm Mexican but most of my life I grew up with African Americans much respect
It’s crazy they let them film in the county jail with no problems. We can barely drive by that place without getting pulled over and harassed. And god forbid you have to go pick up someone from there…for sure you’re getting your car searched and super harassed.
